“fucking hell, Moony.” Sirius groaned, eyes still closed. “where do you buy jumpers like this? all of mine are just itchy.” he was still half asleep, cuddling closer under Remus’s arm.
“they’re special.” Remus whispered to him. he didn’t want to open his eyes just yet, instead he rested his head on top of Sirius’s.
“special because they’re yours.” Sirius started kissing along his jawline, Remus could feel him smiling against his neck; making him grin as well. “special like you.”
“oh i’m special?” Remus smirked, opening his eyes now. Sirius was tracing the scars on his arms: Remus had suffered from a skin illness since he was a child, the name he couldn’t really remember; it was something long and difficult to pronounce. anyway, the disease had left him with tons and tons of little round scars all over his arms, back, and legs.
“you’ve always been special.” Sirius said, smiling up at him. Remus kissed him on the lips, then kissing his entire face; pecking every freckle covering it. resulting in Sirius giggling like no tomorrow.
“well well, well.” James suddenly said, smiling through the opening of the tent. “seems like you didn’t fuck; we didn’t hear you at least.”
Sirius threw a pillow at him and hid his face under his, (Remus’s), sweater. Peter had now joined them in the tent too, sitting next to James, but looking at Remus with a ‘we all know’ kind of look.
“ooh,” he started. “so now you’re wearing Moony’s sweater as well?” Peter grinned.
“what else is new?” James murmured to Peter, who laughed in response. “come on Pete, let’s leave the love birds alone.” Peter grinned, climbing out of the tent, James following after him.
Sirius waited for a bit, then pulled his face out of the sweater again. he looked at Remus, then burst out in laughter — so did Remus, who held him even tighter as he had before.
“did they just call us love birds?” Remus asked with a smile on his face, attempting to fix his hair with one hand, while the other was still around Sirius’s shoulders.
“well, aren’t we?” Sirius giggled. Remus chuckled and sat up, putting on a vest. “maybe they’re right— for like, the first time ever.” Sirius sat up as well, combing through Remus’s hair with his fingers.
“you look good,” Sirius whispered, still smiling. “not as good as me, obviously. but still good.” Remus laughed at the statement, he turned around just to be met by a proudly smirking Sirius.
“obviously.” Remus grinned, holding his cheek and tracing the freckles on it. “come on, we gotta have breakfast.” Sirius groaned and laid back down.
“do we really have to?” Sirius was under the covers by now. Remus pulled him back up, smiling. “yes, we do.”
“how about,” Sirius started, mischievous look on his face. “we just stay here forever. screw them and that whole breakfast, just you, and me, here forever. together.”
Remus couldn’t get the dumb grin off his face, as if his facial muscles protested. he gave him a quick kiss, then climbed out of the tent while giving him one last wink.
“where’s Pads?” Peter asked, pouring tea into mugs, handing them out to James and Remus. Remus shrugged, grin still on his face. “he didn’t want breakfast?”
Remus shook his head, sitting down next to Peter. he wasn’t particularly hungry, he was feeling like he had to eat something but his mind was telling him that he wasn’t hungry yet.
not much later Sirius got out of the tent as well, looking like a happier version of his usual morning self. Remus praised himself for that, knowing it wasn’t easy at all to get Sirius to be even a tad happy in the mornings.
Sirius looked at him, a little smile on his face as he crawled back into his seat as far as he possibly could, drinking the tea Peter had given him.
“what’s the plan for today, lads?” James asked, taking a bite of his bagel, chewing on it with a certain effort, seeing as the bagel was already a couple of days old.
“Marlene was talking about some drive-in film,” Peter proposed. “if we stop by a booth soon, i’ll ring her and ask her?” Remus nodded, now finishing his cup of tea.
“that sounds fun.” Sirius grinned. “ask her to come as well, tell her to bring Mary and Reg, if he even wants to come.” he turned towards James. “Lily, too.” James’s cheeks turned a dark shade of pink in less than a second, he chuckled and elbowed Sirius.
“hopefully its a good movie, not one of those cheesy romance—” Remus started, Peter humming as a form of agreement.
“you don’t like cheesy romance movies?!” Sirius practically jumped out of his seat, he turned towards James. “who doesn’t like cheesy romance?!”
“i don’t know!” James now turned to a stunned Remus and Peter, who were trying their best not to laugh. “why don’t you like them?”
“because they’re fucking awful, always!” Peter protested, finishing the last of his tea. “they have no plot, bad acting, and well,” he stammered. “the bad plot counts for two! that’s how bad they are!”
Sirius and James gasped at the same time, facing each other. “how dare you!” Peter eyed Remus, making the both of them burst out in laughter, which they weren’t able to stop with for quite some time.
“Moony, you have to know that if you really hate those movies; i might have to stop our— whatever were doing.” Sirius whispered in his ear, Remus laughed even harder now.
Remus didn’t care to know what ‘whatever were doing’, actually meant; he was happy now, and he sensed that happiness would not go away for a good long while yet. he didn’t even know what they were doing, but they were having fun. and that was all that matters, right?
he also didn’t feel like overthinking, like he had done the last time. it made him tired. an unnecessary waste of energy: thinking. as he liked to say.
not that he was a ‘do first, think later’, type of person, (which Remus knew that Sirius was, yet he had never seemed to mind it in him), he liked to think before doing something. but this was something you can’t plan. you can’t plan how love — was it too early to call it that? — how love goes; it has it’s own life, it doesn’t listen to the minds of the ones its between.
‘was it too early to call it love?’ Remus thought. strangely enough his brain seemed to have the answer ready, like it had been there since forever, and it was just waiting there until it was time for him to discover it,
Remus had known him since he was twelve years old; they were eighteen now. that was six full years of knowing each other, being best mates. Remus ought to think that he knew Sirius well enough by now. there weren’t these new things to find out about him; like how he takes his coffee, since he doesn’t like tea that much. how much he hates the feeling of multiple different textures of food in his mouth, the way he folds his clothes, how he’s allergic to sheep and goat-cheese; those were all things he knew about him because Remus had spend all those years, trying to pay attention to the Pet peeves and likings of one of his friends, purely out of interest.
maybe that interest had turned into a different kind of interest, but at least Remus knew he wasn’t going to be surprised by any of Sirius’s weird habits anymore. and he preferred it that way; if there was something he hated, it was having to find out new things about people. with Sirius, he knew what he liked, or hated. or how he preferred certain things a certain way.
“come on, Moony! there’s no need to race, the movie starts at,” Peter looked at his watch. “nine-thirty! it’s seven.” Remus just rolled his eyes and focussed on the road again. they had promised to pick up the girls + Regulus first, he didn’t want to be late.
“leave him be, Pete.” James said, smirking. “he’s probably just pissed his loverboy isn’t next to him.” Remus slapped his shoulder, having to hide a grin of his own.
“obviously,” Sirius leaned forward. “who wouldn’t be? it’s me, after all.” Peter chuckled from the back, making eye contact with Remus through the mirror, making him chuckle as well.
the whole reason Remus wasn’t upset about James and Pete already talking like they were in a year long relationship, was the fact that they had acted that way for ages now. like Sirius and he were two characters in a show you are so desperately waiting for to finally get together.
as long as it didn’t bother Sirius, it didn’t bother him either.
a little after seven thirty, the boys arrived at the oh so familiar house again; where they were greeted by Lily, who flew around James’s neck the second he stepped out of the car. Regulus was leaning against the door frame, grinning at the two of them, hugging Sirius as he entered the house.
in the living-room, Marlene and Mary were engaged a conversation, debating about what the topic would be in the sequel of the movie they were going out to watch; the karate kid. Remus couldn’t even hide his own enthusiasm about the next movie, as he also desperately wondered what it would be about.
Peter and him immediately joined their conversation, not a lot later being joined by a laughing Sirius and Regulus, who took a seat next to them. he assumed James and Lily were snogging on the porch.
after a bit, they all got up to get some snacks ready to take with them; mostly since the girls and Peter and Remus refused to buy the food there, where they were sure the food would be a 100% more expensive.
“Remus,” Regulus suddenly asked, making him turn around. “can i speak to you for a minute?” Remus nodded, walking with him to the hallway, closing the door behind him.
“what’s up?”
“if you dare to hurt him, ever. i don’t care in what kind of way,” Regulus said. “i will hunt you down; chop you into three-hundred and twenty-seven pieces, boil them, and feed them to the neighbors dog. do you understand that?”
Remus chucked, but the expression on Regulus’s face seemed to be more than serious, and it seemed dangerous to even think of laughing again.
“don’t think i won’t do it, because i will.” Regulus stared at him for a bit, facial expression still serious as before. he then burst out in laughter.
“oh you’re so fun to mess with!”
it took a bit of time before Remus dared to laugh as well, when he did, it was an awkward little chuckle. Regulus threw an arm around his shoulder and walked him back to the kitchen.
“oh god, please tell me he didn’t—” Sirius groaned the second they walked through the door.
“oh absolutely i did.” Regulus snickered, walking towards his older brother, patting his shoulder. “he needed it.”
Sirius shook his head and mouthed a quiet ‘sorry’ to Remus, who had to stifle a laugh.
after packing up the snacks, the group made their way to the movies; having to take two cars, seeing as they couldn’t fit in one car together.
“i wanna sit with Lils, if that’s alright?” James asked, just before they got into the cars. Remus took a look around to see if the others were okay with it, which they appeared to be.
“of course,” Sirius replied. “Reggie can come sit with us then, if he wants to.” Regulus nodded, getting into the car, sitting himself next to Peter, once Sirius took James’s place.
“i cant believe that we’ve been on this trip for god knows how long, and this is the first time i’ve sat here.” Sirius moaned, making Remus roll his eyes.
“this is exactly the reason why.”
Remus opened the glove compartment, taking a cleaning wipe out to quickly wipe the dust of the steering wheel, and to wipe of everything else. Sirius murmured something about how he did this too much.
“i feel so bad for you, Remus.” Regulus grinned. “i’d cry if i had to be in a relationship with him.”
“might be the fact that he’s your brother, but you do you.” Peter added with a chuckle
“nothing unusual in our family.” Regulus fastened his seatbelt, leaning his legs casually over the seat.
“yup, me and Reggie would just carry on with the family tradition.” Peter spat out his water at the statement, making the others laugh as well.
“gotta love the Black family!” Regulus high-fived him from the back.
the rest of the drive went the same way; one of them cracking a joke, the others laughing at it. after some time, they arrived at the place where the drive-in film was, the girls + James were just behind them, parking next to them.
Remus rolled the window down, signaling for Mary to roll her hers down too.
“was he behaving okay? he wasn’t too annoying, was he?” Remus nodded his head in James’s direction, making Mary burst out in laughter.
“oh absolutely… little Jamie was behaving perfectly well,” she said. “how did you manage to raise him so well?”
James stared at him through the back window, a giggling Lily next to him.
“it was tough, but we made it…” Sirius answered, poking his head through the window as well. “he was such a difficult boy, but eventually we made it.”
“ugh, if only my girlfriend was here right now.” Marlene moaned, Mary poked her head through the window the same way Sirius was. “and i wish i had a girlfriend.”
