i told you so.
april 1st, 1986
Remus felt almost a bit bad for having to tell Mary that her Lily, was the same Lily, James had been swarming over for about a week now.
“no. way.” she said, as Remus explained to her who James was, and everything that had happened during those days at Lily and Regulus’s place.
“yes way,” he sighed. “sorry love.” Mary was still staring straight ahead of her, like she couldn’t believe what was happening.
“Lily doesn’t even know James! guess who she does know? me! she knows me!” Mary snapped. “and James? James can’t be that great, can he?” she looked at Remus for some sense of relief. Remus just gave her a sympathetic look; James wasn’t just great, he was the best.
“oh to hell with you! you’re really no help at all,” she nudged him, laughing to herself. Remus was laughing too. “James? he looks like one of those guys who is fine as hell, but is an absolutely dick when you talk to them.”
Remus laughed out loud at that, he could see where she was coming from, but she could not be more wrong.
“trust me he’s not,” he admitted. “i’d give you advise on the Lily thing, but i’m not so great with the advise; i can give you nothing but a sarcastic comment.”
they laughed for a bit, smoked out the cigarette and went back to the rest; who were now joined by James and Sirius.
“where’ve you been?” Sirius slurred out, as Remus took place next to him.
“what?”
“you and the girl,” Sirius said, looking towards Mary’s direction. “where were you?” Remus rolled his eyes, seeing the perfect opportunity.
“it’s none of your business, why do you care, anyway?” Remus had to hide his grin, it was so funny seeing Sirius act this way; maybe Mary was right. he hoped she was, in all honesty.
“i don’t!” Sirius defended himself, now grabbing a cigarette from his own pocket, searching for his lighter in desperation.
“here you go.” the lighter was almost empty, giving Remus a mental reminder to buy a new one the next time they passed a gas station.
Sirius thanked him for it quietly, still avoiding eye contact the best he could. James eyed the both of them from a bit further away, where he was talking to the girls and Pete, grinning ar him with his brows raised. Remus smirked and took the lighter from a clearly struggling Sirius, lighting the fag for him, literally praying the lighter would work for him.
it did.
Remus was almost laughing at this point, desperately trying not to, as Sirius gasped.
“fucking hell, Moony.” he said, letting out a chuckle. “sometimes i am truly convinced you’re a wizard or something.” Sirius put an arm around his shoulder and sat next to him properly.
Mary looked at Remus, giving him a ‘i told you so’ look, as he was openly grinning at her as well. she winked at him and started talking to Marlene again.
“so, are you guys from here?” Peter asked the two girls, to which they shook their heads.
“nope,” Marlene said. “just bored, thought we’d make a small trip; our other friends weren’t feeling like coming with us, so its just the two of us.” she put an arm around Mary, who laughed.
“really?” James asked, clearly excited. “us too!”
“you guys wanna do something tomorrow, like all of us together?” Sirius took a drag from his cigarette, handing it to Remus, who was a bit taken back by his question, but took it anyway.
“oh i thought you’d never allow him,” Mary looked at Remus, with a faint smirk on her face. “to hang out with us ever again.”
Sirius murmured something non understandable under his breath, as Remus let out a small giggle while looking at Mary.
“so??” Marlene questioned. “what are we gonna do?” the boys quickly looked at each other, none of them really having any ideas.
“lets go get some dinner now, we can go to a motel or something,” James proposed. “we’ll see what we’re gonna do tomorrow.” Mary and Marlene happily agreed.
they ended up going to a small takeaway in the town they were currently in, they took the food to a park, where they sat everything down and everyone settled around the table.
“this is surprisingly good… like, really good.” Marlene said, stuffing her mouth with some quinoa salad. Remus furrowed his brows; the salad didn’t look good at all, plus the fact that he absolutely hated quinoa.
he just nodded and smiled, as politely as he possibly could, taking a bite from his fried chicken sandwich. Marlene was back in conversation with Peter and Mary again, Sirius and James were also talking about something.
“wait!” Marlene suddenly said, jumping up from her seat, running back to her car, grabbing something from the trunk.
“tadaa!” she cheered, holding out a big bottle of expensive looking booze.
“where did you get that?” Mary asked her in confusion, taking a bite from her sandwich.
“oh you know,” Marlene giggled. “that corner-store had the most awful security i’ve ever seen…” Mary and James let out a gasp almost at the same time. Sirius burst out in laughter, leaning over on the table, giving her a high five.
“good one McKinnon!” Remus laughed at that, as he set up some plastic cups in front of everyone, which Sirius filled after he grabbed the bottle from Marlene.
“cheers!” Peter said, holding up his cup as the others cheered with him. Remus flinched a bit as he swallowed the burning liquid; simply not being used to it anymore. he looked over to James, who also flinched at the other end of the table, glad he wasn’t the only one.
Sirius swallowed the beverage like it was water, immediately pouring himself some more, but not yet drinking it; instead lighting another cigarette and taking a long drag. the sun was already setting a bit, Remus thought Sirius looked mesmerizing in this type of lighting, he always did, in Remus’s opinion, but this lighting truly brought out some of his best features.
no. Remus said to himself, thinking of last night, still. and Sirius’s behavior this morning, and the way he switched up so insanely fast? Remus didn’t really know what to think of it; surely, he wouldn’t complain about what had happened last night, but he would like to know about what Sirius was thinking in that moment.
he just really… didn’t know. maybe Sirius was bored? Remus quickly told his own mind to shut up; he was having fun right now, it was not worth to ruin his mood.
“you alright?” Sirius asked him, leaning a bit closer, so not everyone could hear.
“yeah, i’m fine.” Remus took another sip from his drink, regretting it immediately after. Sirius giggled as he handed him the previously lit cigarette, which he gladly accepted.
“alright then,” Sirius said, putting some of his curls into a bun. “you’re just, a bit quiet today.” Remus laughed, even though it wasn’t even funny in the slightest.
“God knows why.” he murmured, not entirely knowing if Sirius caught that or not; he didn’t care, anyways.
the group sat, ate, smoked and laughed for a bit longer, until the sun was almost fully under. Remus was so glad they had met these two new, awesome, girls.
James was currently hanging out of the car, fishing under the front seat, saying he had some type of flyer, containing all hotels and motels in the area.
“Ha! there we go!” James cheered, coming back out of the car, bumping his head in the meantime. “fucking hell.” he murmured, just hard enough for everyone to hear.
“sooo,” he said, putting the flyer on the table. “which one are we going to?”
“i couldn't care less, something that’s not too expensive.” Marlene grunted, as Mary agreed with her.
“alright,” James pointed at one of them, the rooms looked pretty good, in Remus’s opinion. “this one okay?” he looked around the table as everyone nodded.
“let’s get going, then.” Remus sighed as he stood up. the boys would drive towards the motel, and the girls would drive behind them in their car.
the group cleaned their mess up, and got into the cars.
not a lot later, they arrived at the motel, where they parked the cars and got their stuff out. James, once again, took care of the rooms.
“same duo’s as the last time?” Peter proposed, a faint smirk on his face, as he eyed Remus first and then side-eyed James.
“yup! good idea!” James cheered. Remus shot a look at the both of them, said goodbye to the girls and grabbed the keys from a, still smirking, James.
“Jesus christ, why the fuck are you literally stomping away?” Sirius fastened his steps as he tried to catch up with Remus.
“Remus will do.”
they eventually got to their room, Remus opened the door; only one bed. fucking. hell.
“didn’t prongs get a double?” Sirius asked him, standing next to him.
“he said he did, but he already paid for the rooms, we can’t change anymore.” Remus laid some of his stuff down by the door, taking some of Sirius’s things and putting them down as well.
“oh well,” Sirius observed. “the bed is big enough—”
“i’ll sleep on the floor, or something.” Remus ignored him, sitting down on one of the chairs, taking his shoes off.
“of course not! i wont let you sleep on the floor.” Sirius said, grabbing his toiletries from his bag.
“alright,” Remus stated. “then you’ll sleep on the floor.” Sirius practically jumped up.
“nah uh! i am not sleeping on the floor. neither are you, Remus.” Sirius walked into the bathroom, closing the door.
“fucking hell, Sirius.” Remus murmured to himself. he grabbed a book from his bag, he was going to have to wait for a bit until Sirius was done in the bathroom, anyway.
the book was Frankenstein, Remus wasn’t completely sure what to think of it so far; he had only started a couple of days ago, in which he hadn’t much time to read.
a solid forty minutes passed when Sirius came out of the bathroom, hair wet and wearing some joggers and a band shirt.
“come on Moony, why are you so sulky all the sudden?!” he suddenly questioned, sitting down next to Remus; who was still somewhat ignoring him to the best of his abilities. Sirius threw his hands in the air.
“are you being this way right now?!” Remus stood up, now walking into the bathroom himself, locking the door. he finished up for bed, taking a shower and brushing his teeth. putting on some jog shorts and a t-shirt.
“Moony—” Sirius groaned as Remus came out of the bathroom again.
“i don’t want to talk! incase you hadn’t noticed that.”
“if this is about yesterday—”
“but what if it is?!” Remus interrupted him. “what if it is, Sirius?”
Sirius fell quiet and turned a towards Remus again.
“sorry.” he eventually said. “sorry if it made you uncomfortable.” Sirius sighed, not yet looking away from the other boy. Remus finally looked at him.
“did it make you uncomfortable?” Remus asked him after a short lasting silence. Sirius shifted around on the bed, as Remus sat up straighter in his chair, still facing him.
“no…” Sirius admitted. “i wouldn’t have done it if it did!” Remus held his head in his hands.
“did it make you uncomfortable, Remus?”
Remus sighed. it hadn’t.
“Moony.” Sirius pleaded, standing up now.
“it didn’t.” Remus murmured, looking down at the floor.
Sirius walked over to him, grabbing his hand, pulling him back up.
“are you sure?” he asked him, quietly. Remus nodded, with more force than before.
Sirius kissed him, again. Remus once again kissed him back, it felt even greater this time. Remus pulled back after a while, they just looked at each other for a bit, as they burst out in giggling, that good type of giggling you do after doing something great.
