the morning was spend happily in the backyard of the house, Lily’s aunt had prepared them all a full English breakfast, much to Remus’s liking. they even had his favorite tea, that’s when he knew this day was going to be great.
Lily’s aunt, who was about Remus’s mum’s age, had the same red hair as lily, but way more curly, she also had a very kind smile, which made Remus feel instantly welcome.
“is there any chance i could use the phone? i uh, wanna call my mum.” Remus asked, as Eliza, (Lily’s aunt), nodded. she showed him where and Remus instantly dialed his mum’s number.
it took a while before the phone was answered, but after a couple of seconds a woman’s voice finally rang in Remus’s ears.
“Lupin household, how can i help ‘ya?”
“hi mum, it’s me, just wanted to let you know i’m fine.” Remus spoke into the phone, smiling. he hadn’t called his mum in a bit, and he felt awful about it.
“oh Remus! thank the lord you called, where’ve you been, dear?” she said, sounding like a massive weight had just fallen off her shoulders.
“gone for James’s birthday, took the car and just… went places.” Remus thought back to the last couple of days, smiling at the memories once again.
“are you safe? and when are you returning? i’d like to see you for spring break.” the woman laughed, “unless you’re staying at school again, you know how it is; you’re eighteen. i can’t say what you should or shouldn’t do.”
for some reason that made Remus feel a little guilty, he hadn’t been home in ages. and spring break was in three weeks.
“of course i’ll come home, miss you lots, actually.” Remus’s mum, Hope, laughed again. a beautiful laugh, her laugh reminded him of Sirius, who had the same type of laugh.
“oh honey, i miss you too. see you soon okay? love you.” she spoke once again, Remus could hear her smile through the phone, leaving him smiling still.
“i love you too, mum. see you soon.” with that he hung up the phone. god had he missed that woman, he was sure of the fact he could never love someone more than Hope Lupin.
Remus walked back to the yard, where his friends were still eating, Sirius was more like playing with his food, as he always did, though.
“how was your mum?” Peter asked him, handing him the toast.
“she was great, asked if i could come over for spring break; told her yes.” Remus said, accepting the toast and immediately devouring it, like he hadn't seen food in months.
“Jesus, Remus. you had food last night,” James said, turning to the woman. “i swear we feed him.” Remus gave him a glare and Eliza laughed.
“where you wanna head today, moony?” James asked him then, pouring himself some more tea. Remus raised his shoulders, genuinely not knowing. he hadn’t thought about it yet.
“don’t know… where do you guys wanna go?” he asked, looking at the boys.
“well, if you wanted,” Lily said, grabbing the teapot from James. “you could stay here for today, stay here tonight again and go wherever you want after. town is quite pretty.”
James looked at the other boys, who all seemed to agree as well, then looked back at Lily and nodded.
“sure, thanks for letting us stay.” he said, looking at Eliza, who smiled happily.
“it’s nothing, dear.” Eliza asked everyone if they wanted something else to eat, but they all kindly refused and thanked her for the breakfast. then getting up and going to change into new clothes for the day.
after returning from that, the boys decided to go into town to,
“explore our inner adventurers!” as James had happily chanted not so long ago, grabbing Sirius by the arm and dragging him with him down the road, both of them skipping.
Pete and Remus stayed behind talking about music and tattoos, even though Remus refused to get any, because he was absolutely terrified of needles.
“thinking ‘bout getting this Buddha on my back, what’cha think o’ that?” Pete asked him, making Remus look at him nod.
“that sounds really cool, Pete.” all he could think about was how much pain it would take, but he brushed that thought of quickly.
“Sirius wants to get a new one as well, you should go together.” Remus said, offering the other boy some gum who gladly accepted it, but shook his head at the thing Remus had said.
“oh absolutely not, sorry. you know how Sirius is one of my best mates and all, but he’s way too dramatic when getting a tattoo.” both boys laughed.
“Sirius is always dramatic,” Remus stated, looking at the long haired boy in front of him. “but it’s fine, it makes him Sirius.” Pete stared at him for a bit.
“why are you like, obsessed with him, or something?” he asked with a sneaky grin on his face Remus didn’t seem to catch.
“I'm not obsessed with him!” Peter chuckled again.
“oh but you are! Sirius this, Sirius that, Sirius here, Sirius there, ‘oh Sirius would LOVE that!’” Pete said, dramatically putting his hands on the sides of his face as he said the last part
“well he’s just a very good mate of mine, alright? would you please just bugger off!” Remus said. he was getting absolutely sick of people calling him obsessed when he so obviously wasn’t. Peter’s expression suddenly dropped, looking like a sad puppy, almost.
“i’m just tryna make it easier for you, mate. learn how to take a joke or something.” Pete said, before speeding up to catch up with the other boys. Remus stayed still for a bit not really knowing wether to catch up with them as well, or just go back to the house.
not a whole lot later the boys were all sitting in some cafe/bookshop thing together, which James was sure of he had already been plenty of times, which couldn’t exactly be true, since the shop had only been around for about four months, which James had spend fully at boarding school.
Peter was still not really talking to Remus, and he could fully understand why, but knowing Pete, he knew he wouldn’t stay mad for long.
“i’m gonna go and look at some books.” Remus said, finishing of his tea and getting up.
“i’ll come with you.” Sirius said, making Remus look at him with a confused expression. Sirius hated reading.
“alright.” Remus said, waiting for Sirius to catch up with him, they walked towards the bookshelves together and Remus started browsing immediately.
“okay.” Sirius sat down, back facing the bookshelf. making Remus give him a quick look from the side, not fully looking up from his book. Sirius was still looking up at him.
“what!” Remus irritatingly whisper-yelled. Sirius raised a brow and looked straight ahead again.
“well someone is on their time of the month.”
“quit it, would ‘ya?” Remus said, grabbing one of the books, walking towards the paying desk, and laying down seven pounds, and walking back towards Sirius, who was now braiding his hair out of boredom.
“let’s go back.” Remus proposed, Sirius looked up at him.
“Jesus man. stop being a dick and move on.” Sirius said, Remus felt as if he could hit someone but he quickly distracted himself by looking at the book.
“‘kay.”
“what?” Sirius furrowed his brows as he stood up quickly, almost falling over. “are you suddenly ill, or something?”
“no. you’re just right.” Remus put the book in his backpack as he walked back to the other boys, Sirius walking close behind him.
Pete and James had already gotten up, as they were now cleaning the table up a bit. they looked a bit stunned as Remus came up walking to them with a speed no one could match; long legs, or something like that.
“sorry pals, i’ve been awful.” Remus said in a tone that wasn’t too convincing, but no one said anything from it.
they all walked out of the shop, thanked the owners and walked back to the car. Remus and Pete both lit a cigarette and James sighed.
“can you open a window, at least?”
