not much later the boys arrived at the house again, being greeted by a big table of food and happy people sitting around it.
James dived in immediately, so did Remus. Pete and Sirius, who had somewhat weird eating habits, (Peter’s was that he could only eat food when it was laying on the plate in a certain way, and Sirius’s was that he did eat but he played around with his food way more than actually eating it; like a toddler, almost.)
they talked about their ‘adventures’ in town, as Lily, Regulus, Eliza and her husband, whom of they still didn’t know the name, listened happily. it felt great knowing they were liked by these people, who had treated them with nothing but kindness in the past two days.
it almost made them sad they were to leave again tomorrow, but they could always return if they wanted to.
“it was lovely, thank you so much.” Remus said, seeing James nod heavily from the side.
“oh it is absolutely nothing, boy! don’t be silly!” Eliza smiled a smile at him that reminded him lots of Lily’s smile.
they helped clean up the table, and the dishes; all six of them in the small kitchen, which made a ten minute job take a half an hour.
that night, the group of teens held a game night, the teams being,
“me and pads,” James started, until Regulus interrupted him.
“pads?” he looked at his brother and burst out in laughter. “his nickname is pads?!” Sirius gave him a glare.
“oh ha ha, mister ‘ahh!! i can’t swim!!’” now Sirius was laughing at him, Lily looked at him confused. “oh you didn’t know? Reggie is afraid of water. he can’t swim.”
“you literally have no right to laugh about that when your nickname is Pads. not even I am that lame.” Sirius was about to interrupt him again until James started talking.
“what i was saying, me and pads, reg and Lils, and moony and Pete.” James stated.
“pads.” Regulus repeated quietly, but still loud enough for everyone to hear, then laughed again, hiding his face in his hands.
“shut up!” Sirius threw his hands in the air. Regulus still had some problems with trying to stay serious, but after a bit he stopped.
they decided to play Cluedo, which was a beloved game of all. mid game there was some argument.
“no!! obviously he wasn’t killed with,” Lily started, she then lifted her brows. “oh well, he was.”
“told you.” Regulus said, writing something down on their shared piece of paper.
Remus and Peter won, to no surprise of anyone, really. they were the best in board games out of them all.
“totally unfair, next time we’re playing in different teams.” Sirius said, making both Peter and Remus laugh.
“don’t think so, i love winning.” Pete said, “And i know Remus does too.”
“pete’s right mate,” he looked at Sirius. “sorry.”
“lame, you folks.” James now said, turning his head.
“i'll go get some more drinks, you guys want like coke?” Lily said, making Sirius and Remus both choke at the same time.
“w,” Remus started, coughing again, “we want what.”
“coke. coca cola.” she raised her eyebrows, and eyed both boys. “what did you think of?”
“oh! nothing!! it’s just,” Sirius looked at Remus and had his eyes wide open. Remus finished the sentence for him. “we thought you said something else.”
“okay.” she turned. “FYI, that we don’t have actual coke in the house.” Lily looked at Regulus with a smirk, who was laughing out loud by now.
“wait does that mean you do, or you don’t? since my little brother back there is laughing like no tomorrow.” Sirius said, who was now confused. Regulus and Lily looked at each other and laughed loudly once again.
“i guess we shall never know.” Regulus said, leaving with Lily towards the kitchen to grab some drinks.
“my brother does coke? I was supposed to be the disappointment, he wasn’t.” Sirius looked **honestly surprised.
“don’t worry pads, your nickname is pads. that’s a big disappointment, too.” James said, patting the other boy’s shoulder, who seemed enlightened by that.
“thank you.”
everyone chatted about random things for a bit until Lily and Regulus came back with drinks for everyone. the group just drank them and told each other stories.
later they went upstairs, getting ready for bed. James and Remus going back into the room they were still sharing, after saying goodnight to the others.
“i'm sort of sad we’re leaving tomorrow.” James said, as he still sat up, now packing some of his stuff into his backpack again.
“i know, i am too. really liked it here.” Remus opened the book he was currently reading, he had taken it from the school library; if they were not already looking for him, they would be looking for the book.
“it’s great pads found Reg again, he seems like a nice pal.”
“totally, i’d love to get to know him, in all honesty.” Remus said, he couldn’t really focus on the book. he put it away and laid straight on his back.
“for sure, Lily is cool, too. and she’s you know,” James smiled. “she’s pretty, and funny; i think she’s awesome.”
Remus smiled, even though this happened more than once, where James was absolutely obsessed with someone, this time it felt different.
“ask the number from this house, and her number at home!!,” Remus rushed. “you never know what it might become.”
“oh you’re the one giving the relationship advice now?” James laughed. “please.”
Remus threw his hands in the air, he laughed for a second and turned back to him.
“what’s that supposed to mean?,” James gave him a look and raised his brows. “oh you know- i don’t even want to know!”
“yeah… because you know exactly what i’m talking about! HA!” James laughed, Remus threw a spare pillow at him in response.
“i know for a fact you guys don’t talk to Sirius about this! do you like, hate me,” he laughed. “or something?” James once again raised his eyebrows at him and stared for a bit.
“Moony.” Remus looked back at him, not really knowing what he was about to say, but he was too tired to care. “no one said anything about Sirius.”
Remus furrowed his brows, silently recalling what James had said in his mind; fuck.
James laughed and threw the pillow back at him, making Remus laugh quietly, too.
“not a single word to anyone, about this.” Remus turned to face the wall, smiling to himself, not really knowing why.
“sure,” James let out another soft laugh. “no one will know.” he held up his pinky, which Remus took. “pinky promise.”
“pinky promise.”
“night Moony.” James said with a yawn, which Remus returned.
not a lot later Remus was still wide awake, laying on his back and having conversations with the version of himself inside of his mind. he often did that, helped calm him down.
he thought back at the conversation he and James had had earlier, he didn’t know why he even thought of Sirius.
Remus had known Sirius since they were around twelve years old, he had always thought Sirius was really… cool? he never knew how to explain what he thought of Sirius.
whenever Sirius was in a relationship, Remus always felt this jealousy he couldn’t give a reason for. he had just assumed he was scared Sirius was gonna leave them for this person, and spend all his attention on them, much rather than the other boys.
but now maybe there was another reason.
maybe Remus wasn’t just afraid of losing him as a friend, maybe, maybe Remus was just so incredibly jealous of this person.
jealous that they got to have Sirius in that way, and he didn’t.
maybe Remus Lupin did like this posh boy named Sirius Black.
oh my god.
he did.
