A Loki Scorned. Vague Prologue Outline
A Loki Scorned
"Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned"
- William Congreve, The Morning Bride (1967)
Asgard, Óðinnárg 6497
The Bifrost shone beautifully, reflected in the loch and the night sky. It pulsed and hummed with each step, each swing of sword or shield or axe, creating a battle hymn that harmonized with the cries of men. Two sons of Oðinn fought, brother against brother, whilst the warriors were subdued by the might of Frigga’s firstborn.
“Go, Brunn, go!” Váli cried as he parried against Viðarr’s heavy sword.
The Valkyrie only gazed upon the battle but a moment. It was three against a hundred. Their only saving grace was that the narrowed path of the Bifrost limited the mobility of Oðinn’s forces, but she could see more coming in fljúgandi ships. The fljúgandi were circling around, aiming to cut them off from the portal and Heimdall. With her heavy burden, bundled in thick layers, she would not make it in time.
“Change of plans!” Brunnhilde called out and laid her burden upon the Bifrost, giving it a firm shake. “Come, Loki, give us one of your tricks.”
The Jötun groaned weakly, his eyes fluttering open.
Brunnhilde dared not touch his frozen skin, but gave him another firm shake through the thick furs. “Awaken. We’re cut off from Heimdall. My steed was injured along the way. If we do not escape, I fear that dungeon will be the least of your concerns.”
Loki gave a faint nod and closed his eyes. A moment later he slipped his hand out from the furs and presented the Valkyrie his wrist. Her eyes widened at the snake tattoo. It was dried and cracked, faded along with the Jötun’s seiðr, but she would recognize that monster anywhere.
“You’re mad,” she said, but took hold of Loki’s wrist and fed her limited seiðr into the ink as her skin burned at the contact. The cracks quickly filled in, the lines thickening as they hungrily fed from her.
“When Óðinn wakes he will have your heads for this,” Viðarr snarled, kicking his younger brother to the ground.
Váli rolled, nearly sliding from the Bifrost. “Father will be too busy defending against mother.”
“That traitorous queen will fall with you,” Viðarr spat as he approached his brother.
“Hurry,” Valkyrie murmured as an ominous feeling filled her. “BRAGI!”
Frigga’s eldest turned at his name, but the call had not come soon enough. With a powerful thrust of his sword, Viðarr speared his brother and flung him from the Bifrost. The waters here were turbulent, so close to the giant waterfalls that separated Ásgarðr from the Void. Váli stood no chance as he was swept away and disappeared with the current, leaving naught but a crimson swirl in his wake.
Bragi roared. He pushed back Óðinn’s warriors and turned to face the eldest son.
“Stand down, poet,” Viðarr commanded, raising his mighty sword. “Your skáldic arts are no match for a true Aesir.”
“The Óðinssons have always underestimated the ways of seiðr,” Bragi said, raising his own sword. “Yet, it is Frigga who bested Óðinn in battle before becoming his queen.”
“Lies that Vanir-whore taught you,” Viðarr snarled before launching at the other man.
The ground shook as their swords collided. The Bifrost’s hum became a piercing scream, and then shattered as the waters burst into the sky. Jǫrmungandr shot forth from Ásgarðr’s core. Its mighty roar echoed throughout the lands, and in its mouth sat the Valkyrie and her unconscious burden.
“Long live Queen Frigga and Loki, a King of Jötunheim!” Brunnhilde declared as the World Serpent dove back into the loch and spirited them away.
The Curiosity, Risi Nálsønn.
{Miðgarðr, June 1997}
{It’s late at night, Starks leaving work when he overhears argument, only half of which is in English. Some of his male employees are harassing the new janitor, a pregnant woman who hardly speaks English. Happy runs off the assholes, whilst Stark tries to talk to the woman. She’s skittish, with stunning seafoam blue eyes, & is barely showing any skin. She hurries off before Stark gets to speak much. Happy informs him that that was Risi Nálsønn, the distant relative of Bruce Banner who he hired as a favour. Tony tells him to have Nálsønn’s janitorial duties moved to his floor.}
{Early July}
{It’s been three weeks since Tony’s seen the foreign janitor. He’s fallen asleep in his lab & awakes to the soft, displaced sounds of someone moving about. No one is supposed to be in his lab. He accidently spooks the janitor, who throws him across the room, before apologizing in very limited, broken English. She rushes off before he can say much. Once she’s gone, he notices that the armament that he had been working on is suddenly fixed.}
{The next day Tony has the janitor called into his office. She seems weary, hesitant. Her eyes are greener today. He places a different broken armament in front of her and asks her to fix it. She studies him carefully for a moment, before easily & quickly fixing it. He tries to ask her about her education, but she just shakes her head & says she doesn’t understand. She won’t give up any information about herself. He asks if she can cook, she nods, & then he asks if she’d like to be his personal maid. She’d only work on his floor, cleaning his rooms, labs, & cooking his meals. She agrees.}
{After Risi leaves the office, he tries to call Bruce, but he doesn’t answer. Tony knows that Bruce is part of some big military project, so he leaves a message that never gets answered.}
{September}
{Tony hasn’t seen much of Risi. When he wakes his food is on the counter, still warm. His place is always clean, laundry always pressed, and if he leaves something broken, when he wakes its somehow fixed. He still hasn’t heard from Bruce.}
{December 1997}
{Risi disappears.}
The Rival, Magnús Friggason.
{May 2003}
{Loki returns as Magnús Friggason, an intellectual rival who knows just how to piss Tony off & simultaneously turn him on. Their relationship is explosive, & Magnús knows just how to push Tony to strive to be a better man. Stark Industries makes huge leaps in areas other than weaponry with Magnús around. At some point, Tony bites into Magnús giving him a mating bond, & Tony freaks out. Pissed off, Loki leaves.}
{Tony realizes he fucked up massively. Bruce decides to be a good bro & help him out. He takes him to see Magnús who looks like Risi… who’s pregnant. Loki finally reveals himself.}
The Shadow, Loki Laufeyjarson.
New Mexico, 2006
{Thor shows up in New Mexico & Loki goes to head him off, wanting to keep his children & mate a secret. Tony hates that he cannot fight as an equal to Loki, there’s a power imbalance. Loki gets captured & taken back to Asgard, which is at war with Jötunheim & Vanaheim.}
{Loki returns to Asgard to face Oðinn. In the confrontation, he’s thrown from the bifrost, into the Void.}
