Chapter 3
Waking up I frown looking at Rachel seeing her jerk back from me nervously "you stopped breathing" she says softly.
Grunting I rub my face "Don't worry about it" I mutter before standing up, sighing I shake my head "don't have my mirror" I say talking to myself before moving to look around the house again.
"What are you doing?" She asks.
Waving her off I head upstairs walking into a bedroom and look out a window seeing dead walking around.
This shit isn't really that impressive and I doubt it'd help Miranda with anything, unlike the ones she made these don't have any intelligence and seem to move on basic instincts.
Even the moroaică in Alcina's castles have more intelligence to them, one even uses actual planning and thought when hunting.
"What's wrong?"
Looking behind me I see Rachel at the door nervously fidgeting, I really could cover more ground and get out faster if I didn't have her hanging around, I could just leave her behind and escape but she's young it wouldn't hurt to get her out.
Making up my mind on her I shrug watching her "just planning our next move".
Seeing her nod I hum tilting my head back to the window hearing something exploding "what is that?" Rachel asks ducking behind me holding my shirt.
Humming I look around "something we need to avoid at all costs" I answer while crossing my arms.
"Matilda?"
Holding up a finger I tilt my head watching the distance hearing gunshots rapidly firing, hearing it stop I frown before closing the curtain "stay away from the windows" I say before walking away.
Heading back downstairs I grab my bag pulling out a protein bar, grabbing another I toss it to her before sitting down "how long do we have to wait?"
Humming I shrug while chewing a bite "these things could wipe out a city quickly depending on how capable the people are, here I'd say a week and this entire place will be completely gone, in a night they've already overwhelmed it".
"So we stay a week?"
Laughing I shake my head "hell no, we need to leave before then, I'd bet whoever released this will cover up the evidence before it gets out, they'll gather whatever they need then blow the city up".
"So terrorist?"
I frown then shrug "maybe, but I'd bet it's something closer to home that has their hands all over the city".
"College?" I ask to change the subject.
"High school"
Nodding I hum silently glad I decided to help her "what about you?"
"Worked at a store but was in college, I guess I'll have to find a new one after this shit show" I answer.
Duke pov
Sitting in my shop room at the castle I smile seeing Alcina come in "Alcina, how are you?" I ask while gathering what I have for her and the girls.
"Hello Duke" she greets ignoring my question while looking at what I have available.
"Matilda sent you and the girls somethings" I add placing them on the crate.
"How is she?"
"Very well last I heard, she's going to college again for more understanding in virus and bioengineering"
She hums picking up a lipstick "gold?" She asks.
"Yes, she made it herself and had another person craft then fill it with crimson red just for you"
Seeing her nod smiling I direct her to what gift the girls get "I'll make sure the girls write to her, I'll send a maiden with them when done".
Nodding I smile watching her looking at some books "when do you plan to visit her again?" She asks.
"In a few weeks, she's currently doing tests and working I'd hate to distract her from her goals"
