Hear
“Maybe.”
“Hmm, not the answer I was hoping to hear.”
“Well, I could always change it back to no,” green eyes are making fun of him. He wasn’t sure before, but it’s clear now. She is enjoying this.
“I could always change my mind and go with one of my other friends.”
Now she stops walking and turns to him. Her eyes squint and an accusing finger pushes against his chest. “You mean this is not you asking me to Hogsmeade on a date?”
“Erm, would you have a different answer if I was?”
“Just to be clear Potter, what exactly are you asking?”
They have stopped walking and are standing in the middle of the hallway. Other students try to pass on either side of them. Neither Lily nor James seems to care.
He remains silent, which is not a usual occurrence. Not at all.
“Okay, Potter, if you have lost your voice then I have a question for you. Will you go to Hogsmeade with me?”
“I hear congratulations are in order, Evans.”
Lily can see how much Sirius is enjoying this.
“You might want to make the most of that, Black, seems the world is going to be one Evans short. ”
“Did we wake you?” she asks as she sees him standing in the doorway, a small smile on his face. The only light in the room is a lit candle on a small table near the couch she is sitting on.
“No, I never heard a thing. You know, Lily, you must have magical ears. I hardly ever hear him but you wake up when he so much as bats his eyelashes.” James moves to sit next to her on the couch.
“Well, I don’t want him waking the whole neighbourhood because he's hungry.”
Softly he pinches the little toes that stick out from the small bundle lying across his wife's body and says: “Still, Evans, I have slept in your bed for a while now, and I know it takes effort, no really, serious effort to wake you. Remember that time Padfoot came back from some Muggle club? You literally slept through him lighting whistling rocket bombs in our apartment, and then almost through the muggle police breaking open our front door,” he chuckles at the memory.
“Please, don’t remind me, we were having such a peaceful moment,” and after carefully manoeuvring a half-sleeping Harry to her other breast, she leans over to kiss James.
