Chapter 19
As they arrive at Diagon Alley Theseus tries to run off, too excited to wait, as expected the Alley is filled with families getting early school supplies for their children. Gellert grabs Theseus by the back of his jacket “do not run off Theseus there are too many people here.” Gelert kept looking around the alley, there were some glares at them but not many considering Britain ministries that are too stubborn for change. Albus smiles a bit at the craziness going on around the shops and brings them to the bookstore “Flourish and Blotts first.” Albus gives Newt to Gellert and takes Theseus to look for his school books, Gellert goes up to the second level since it was less crowded.
Newt was holding on tightly to Gellert and looking around the store at the books. Gellert was rocking him and looking at some books to see if any of them seemed entertaining to him, he picked up a book and opened it to read a small bit. Gellert smiles as Newt puts his hands on the book “Newt, apu is trying to read this” Gellert says this with a slight laugh in his voice, not really annoyed at his youngest for wanting his attention. Gellert looks up at the four year old as he whines, “Mi az, Newt?” the young man says quietly and looks around for what would be bothering him.
Newt tries to reach for a shelf “mouse, mouse!” he keeps trying to reach for it. Gellert smirks a bit and gently picks up the small animal, causing some people around them to scream, giving it to Newt. Gellert looks at the stairs as he sees Albus quickly coming up the stairs “hello love” he walks over, watching Newt with the mouse to make sure he doesn’t drop it “what are you running for?”
Albus had heard the scream and ran up the stairs knowing Gellert had gone up there, he didn’t know what happened and his mind immediately went to the worst. He looks up as he gets upstairs and sees Gellert completely fine and holding a happy Newt “There was screaming.” he then sees the Mouse Newt was holding “oh, where did you find that friend Newt?” he goes over to them.
Newt points to the shelf and Gellert hums “She was crawling along the shelf, people can be so jumpy sometimes.” The blond shoots a charming smile at Albus before he says something about the mouse. He kisses Albus’ cheek and looks down to find Theseus, seeing he got all his books he heads down with Albus to pay for them.
As they walk further down the Alley Newt starts to whine “daddy, apu…zajos!” He tried to cover his ears but it didn’t help the noise. Gellert hums, kisses Albus’ cheek “I’m going to find a quiet place to sit and calm Newt down, and to be honest the noise is getting to me also, are you ok alone?”
Albus smiles “yes we’ll be fine alone for a bit, both of you go calm down, try further down since there are more non-school related shops down there” he watches as Gellert walks away “and do not take my son into knockturn Alley Gellert!”he shouts after him in a stern voice.
Gellert finds that the leaky cauldron was not as busy as the alley it hides and sits down in a corner with newt, rubbing the boys back. He starts humming softly to help Newt calm down more, it was a lullaby he always sang to Newt putting him to bed when Albus wasn’t there. As Newt calms down Gellert gets some juice for him and helps him drink it, making sure no one seems like a threat in the bar. He kisses Newt's head gently when the toddler lays it back down on his shoulder “Ist es Nickerchen Bärchen?” He transfigures his jacket into a blanket to wrap around the boy, making sure he's comfortable. He keeps an eye out around them as Newt sleeps on him, making sure his son is safe.
After a bit he gets up, casting a silencing charm around the toddlers head so he can’t hear anything and walks around outside, getting tired of sitting. He catches a hidden alleyway and goes down it, keeping a tight grip on Newt since it was dark in it. He had a feeling if Albus found him wandering around down there with Newt he would be pissed but the area was intriguing. He goes into a store and looks at the relics in there, some of them cursed and others just morbid memorabilia. Gellert hums and picks up a pendent, scanning it for a curse and not finding any and he pays for it.
With his curiosity sedated and with a new piece of jewelry for his love he leaves the alley and goes to look for Albus. The pendant was hidden securely in a pocket, as he found Albus in the robes store. Albus was playing around with the robes on Theseus, getting one that should fit right. Gellert wraps his arm around Albus “why don’t we get them tailored?”
Albus jumps and turns around “Gellert why do you sneak up like that!” He exclaims then notices Newt sleeping and quiets down again “He would need more next year, it’s easier and less money to buy off the rack” he takes the robe from Theses and picks up the rest of the uniform pieces. Albus pays for them and takes the bag, shrinking it to fit in the other bags “We have everything now”
Gellert hums “you don’t have to be so quiet I put a silencing charm around his head” he walks outside with him and Theseus, holding the 11 year olds hand. Gellert hums as he hears some girls whispering “hello, would you like to say something to us?”
The girls gasp and look up, “n-nothing just you two make a nice s-site…” one says softly while looking around, presumably to see if her parents are around to hear her say that. Albus glares at Gellert for a second then looks at the girls and smiles.
“Thank you Lillian, and hello Minerva I’m surprised you didn’t speak up instead of Lillian” he laughs in the last half of his sentence “and I hope you two have been staying out of trouble this summer” he puts his hands in his pockets and looks at them.
“Yes we have albus, is your son going to Hogwarts this year?” Minerva puts her hands in the pockets of her skirt.
“I‘ve told you many times that it's not polite to call me by my first name minerva. I’m your professor”
“I’ll think about it Albus” Minerva walks away after that and Albus sighs. He leans on Gellert and checks on Newt to see if he’s still sleeping.
Gellert hums “she is self certain.” he looks down when Theseus gets heavier on his arm “are you getting bored Theseus?”
“Yes!” the boy yells and pulls on his and Albus’ arms “and I’m hungry”. He starts walking with them following him to the leaky cauldron. As they sit down Albus opens, calls a waiter over and orders food for them. Newt starts to wake up and looks around, starting to cry when he can't hear anything and Gellert takes the charm off and kisses his head. Newt calms down after and reaches for Albus, letting the auburn man take him and lays his head on him. He holds Pick when the small creature crawls out of Gellerts breast pocket and over to the boy. Newt smiles and lets Pick sit on his shoulder and looks up as the food comes out “veggies, veggies” he reaches for the potatoes. Gellert gives Newt a fork and pushes the plates around the table between Theseus and Albus.
Albus helps Newt eat and looks at Gellert, taking in how he was sitting and looking around every so often. “Gel, love, it’s ok” he says gently and gives Newt some ham to eat also. He rubs the back of Gellerts hand and smiles “I promise” he yawns and bounces Newt a bit. Newt stopped eating and whined and looked at Albus, holding up his fork. Albus stops bouncing him and helps Newt eat his food. Albus smiles when he sees Gellert calm down a bit and start eating. As they finished their food Newt was falling asleep again.
“I think it’s time to go home, He’s very tired today” Gellert whispers to Albus “or hogsmeade, it’s closer” he takes out a pouch and pays for their food. He helps Albus up and kisses his and Newt's head, then helps Theseus up. They leave the pub and apparate to Hogsmeade. As they are walking to the Small loft they have when Theseus trips and bashes his head into the wall.
Gellert immediately picks Theseus up and checks if he's ok “Its ok, but let's get you a healing potion just incase” he goes upstairs with him, opening the lofts door and letting Albus and Newt in first, then locking the door behind them with multiple wards. Albus laughs at his protectiveness while going to put Newt in his bed to nap properly.
Gellert goes to get Theseus a healing potion and gets him to drink it “I know it tastes horrible but a few seconds of something that doesn’t taste good is better than being hurt” he puts Theseus down “now go and lay down, just because you’re 11 doesn’t mean healing potions mysteriously don’t make you tired anymore” The blond man leans on the door frame as he watches Theseus go into his and Newts shared room while Albus comes out and he smiles.
“My love, I wish to dance with you” he whispers and pulls him closer when Albus gets within arms reach “just you and I” Gellert slides his hand around Albus’ waist and the other takes the auburn haired man’s hand to hold close to their bodies.
“I can’t believe Theseus is already starting school, it only seemed like yesterday we found him crying in that alley in Paris” Albus lays his head on Gellerts shoulder and hums as they rocked with each other to unheard music. He smiles as he hears Gellert hum.
“It only seems like it was yesterday that I was spying on you from the staircase of my great aunts cottage, but that was over 7 years ago” Gellert smiles and kisses his head “and look how far we’ve come, a good portion of the world is starting to unify, and we have two beautiful children.”
Albus nods against his chest and looks at him “yes we do”
