Settling into House Black
Accidental Magic can tap into the Leylines and create bigger expressions of protective Magics. So when a child has a fit of accidental Magic, it can have far-reaching effects if they are positioned on one of these Leylines. It has been theorized that Accidental Magic trying to save a life on a Leyline can lead to the child disappearing for a time, only to reappear when it is safe for them to do so. These children will reappear in a place they see as safe like a grandparent’s home or a friend’s yard. If the child does not have a place they personally believe that they are safe, they can then be found just down the ley line behind a barrier protecting the child from anything magical or mundane. Many think that these acts of protective magic are where the idea for changelings and Fae children came from in the medieval era. There has only been one case of this type of protective Magic activating in the last Century. Subject A was whisked away to a protective family member.

When Orion looked at his sons, he introduced them to Hadrian the next morning and told them that he would be their brother. He looked at Sirius who grinned happily to have another brother to play with when he got free time. Regulus didn’t quite understand and looked at his father asking if he came from mom as well. Orion took a moment with his young son to explain that he was calling Hadrian his son to protect him but he was their cousin. To keep him safe they had to think of him as their brother. Regulus thought about it and nodded and hugged Hadrian, who had been hiding behind Orion’s leg.
After introducing Hadrian to the others, Orion told the boys that they would be watched by their Aunt Lucretia again while he handled some errands in Diagon Alley with Hadrian for the day. He wanted to keep things settled and he had a meeting with Cassiopeia before they went to Gringotts to get him settled in the accounts for a Black, and to see if he could claim any of the other titles. Orion carefully picked out a few of Regulus’s older smaller clothes until he could go and get his new son’s wardrobe filled out. Orion also alerted Kreature that there was one more young boy in the house that was of the Black family to look after now. Kreature seemed to acknowledge the child but seemed to prefer Regulus still.
At 10 in the morning, Orion gathered Hadrian up in his arms and carefully carried him as he Floo’d into the Leaky cauldron. When Orion and Hadrian stepped out, the patrons watched him for a moment then went back to their own business. Carefully Orion went to find Cassiopeia at the little cafe she had talked about meeting at today. He found the little cafe off the main road. He watched the busy street as he held the four-year-old against him, hiding him from the others around within the folds of his cloak.
It was right at 10:15 in the morning when Cassiopeia arrived. She had told him that she would get away from her job as soon as she could and meet him at the cafe. “Hello Lord Black,” Cassiopeia said as she arrived and found herself taking a seat near her head of family.
“Hello Cassiopeia, I have a question for you, would you mind accompanying me to Gringotts with my new son to see If we can figure out where he came from, clearly something happened and he was not being taken care of very well,” he said as he looked at one of the daughters of the House Black. She was well put together in nondescript black robes that seemed to be covering nearly every inch of her skin. He knew that she worked in the Ministry but not where in the ministry. He knew she loved a new mystery every once in a while.
“Of course, I would be honored to join you two,” she said as she waved off the waitress.
“Alright then let us go, we can call upon the Black Manager to help us in this inquiry,” Orion said as he carefully shifted the quiet four-year-old in his arms. He was worried that the child seemed to not say a word as he was carried around. He wondered if he was just scared and would talk when he felt safe.
The two adults carefully walked through the crowd to the white steps of Gringotts and when they entered they saw the child taking everything in as if seeing it for the first time. Orion waited for a question or something from the boy in his arms, but he didn’t get anything. He took a deep breath as he waited in line for an open teller.
“Lord Black to see Account Manager Kraggott,” Orion said as he presented his Lordship ring to the goblin before him.
“Right away sir,” said the goblin as one of the runners went to get Kraggott. It was not too much later that Kraggott arrived and took the Blacks off to his office.
“What do you wish from Gringotts today, Lord Black?” Kraggott asked as he settled into his seat behind his desk.
“I need a full lineage test for this little one today, I will front the cost. We need to know as much about him as possible. We will need paperwork to set myself as his guardian under the name Hadrian James P. Black as well as set up a trust account for him from the Black accounts,” he said.
Kraggott nodded and set about getting things prepared. “We will need seven drops of blood for the lineage test,” he said, holding out the silver blade for Lord Black to use for the child.
As Orion took the blade from Kraggott he looked at the little boy and tried to explain what was going to happen but that he needed him to let him hold his hand to get what they needed for the Goblins. He felt the little body tremble but he also saw the boy nod as he held out his hand trying to be brave.
Orion took the blade and made a cut that he would use to get the seven drops of blood. He carefully held the child's hand above the parchment and counted out the drops of blood. Once the last drop fell he turned the child's hand over and healed the cut as if it was never there. He watched as the four-year-old didn’t even tear up at the pain. That caused a frown to appear on Orion’s face as he cleaned up the excess blood from the hand of Hadrian and off the blade from the cut. He then returned the dagger to the tabletop.
As the parchment filled in, some parts were still trying to be blurred. As it finished he saw that the last name of the Father was filled in, but the mother’s name was still obscured.
“Curious,” Kraggott said as he looked over the paperwork. “We can continue with everything else you wish to do but this child won’t be staying long term, do you wish for everything to move with the child when the events come to pass?” Kraggott said.
“What do you mean Kraggott?” Orion asked not sure what else to say to that statement.
“The only time this happens,” Kraggott explained as he pointed to the obscured year and mother’s name “is when the child had a bout of Accidental Magic that tapped into the nearby Ley Lines and caused the child to go to a time before they were born for safety, We can have his assets waiting for him when he returns to allow him to continue to use his name you have given him. And allow us to assist him in getting any help readjusting to his proper time. It doesn’t happen often that a child’s accidental magic causes them to time jump as we call it. When it does happen we have procedures in place to keep their normal time prepared, or in this case, diverted from figuring out what happened to the child if inquiries happen.” Kraggott stated as he looked over the rest of the paperwork from the lineage test.
“It does look that he is from the potter line, so he has Black from there, but also a godparent bond that gives him a direct link to you, so that is why he appeared before you instead of his own grandfather if the godparent also named him Heir in their time, he would be considered an heir here as well. Due to the fact that we know his bloodlines we can make sure when he appears to us at age 11, we can get him all of his heirship rings at that time, despite what anyone claiming to be his magical guardian wishes because you or the godparent would supersede that,” the goblin stated as he looked at Lord Black.
“Very well, can we establish his new identity here as Hadrian J. P. Black so that we can hide his father's link as long as possible, as he gets closer to age he will return, I do believe I will inform him what the JP stands for. I also want things put into place so that when he returns, he gains access to the Black properties and Heirship immediately, I do not want him to be unprotected. If I am not alive at that time I wish my sons to be informed of his return to his time, I will explain to them what happened once things go the way they need to,” Orion said as Kraggott nodded, making notes on the accounts of the Ancient and Noble house of Black.
It took a few hours to get all the paperwork settled and the cover for the child in place while he was in their timeline. He looked at Cassiopeia who was very curious to know what caused the child’s magic to feel the need to throw him into the past to save him. It was good they knew the link to the Potters so they could limit the interactions between James and Hadrian so that it did not change him being born in the future. Orion just wondered what the story would be when Sirius became the godfather to Hadrian in the future.
Orion didn’t want to dwell on what happened, but the Lineages were clear for whatever else happened to Hadrian, he was going to politically be a powerhouse. He would have to make sure that the house of Peverell did not get voted out of use and assigned to anyone else until Hadrian came of age to take his place in the Wizengamot.
“Thank you Cassiopeia for coming with me to Gringotts. It seems that there is a lot we do not know about Accidental Magics and how they protect the child in question,” he said as they left Gringotts to go get a full wardrobe for the small sleepy child that now hugged Orion.
“True but I have someone who might not mind keeping tabs on him while he is in our time. She will want to use what she comes to know to add to her academic paper she's writing on Accidental Magic and how it is triggered. She would never use his name if you allowed them to meet, all she would use would be age and magical core type and size. “ Cassiopeia said as she looked at Orion.
“I will think about it if she won't mind being his private healer while he’s with us, I will be willing to let her write about his situation,” Orion said.
Cassiopeia looked at Orion. “I will ask her if that is an option, for now, I will let you know her reply, but I need to get back to the Ministry now,” she said looking at the time being around noon.
“Go ahead Cassiopeia, I am just going to get his clothes then return home,” he said and bid his family member goodbye then went about getting the small boy's clothes. He worried that he would be tiny until he returned to his own time.
After returning to Grimmauld place Orion saw that Sirius was working on his lessons with Lucretia and Regulus was working on learning his letters while he had a training quill in his hand. Orion knew that Hadrian was tired so he carefully went to the nap area in the study and laid the child down.
“Welcome home father,” Sirius said as he looked up from his lesson for a moment.
“How long until their next break, Lucretia ?” Orion asked as he looked at them.
“They were just finishing their pages then we were going to have Lunch. Was your trip to Gringotts productive?” she asked as they watched the boys return to their writings.
Orion nodded. “Very productive, things will be fine now, all the papers are in order for Hadrian,” he said as he looked at the sharp Daughter of House Black, realizing that not everything could be freely talked about in front of the boys.
Not long after they lapsed into a comfortable silence both boys finished their pages. So, carefully everyone was moved to the dining hall. Kreature moved the sleeping child with house elf magic to keep the child sleeping if it was needed. “Kreature can you please make sure that when Hadrian wakes he gets something to eat,” Orion said as he saw the elf bow. “As the master wishes,” Kreature replied.
The two boys were sent to wash up before they had to continue their afternoon lessons which gave Orion and Lucretia time to talk.
“So what is going to happen with the child?” she asked,
“I am keeping him here and will be adding him to Regulus’ studies once he’s comfortable, I want him to be prepared,” Orion said, keeping the time magic to himself.
“I will make new books for the dear then to start him learning his letters and numbers,” Lucretia stated as she looked at Orion.
“Thank you, we will need to watch him carefully, where he came from they didn’t care for him the best, he might be non-verbal for a bit until he is sure he is safe,” Orion warned as he thought about how the boy barely made a sound while they were out.
Lucretia nodded. "I'll be patient with him, I don't want to set him back if he is going to represent this noble house," she said as she took a moment to think about what she would need to gather together for the boy to start with soon.
Orion nodded and took a deep breath. “Thank you, Lucretia, I know it's only a matter of time before they get into trouble so I will let you continue their lessons for today if you will excuse me,” he said, leaving Hadrian in Kreatures' care for now. “Kreature after he’s been fed please bring him to me,” Orion said as he left and Kreature bowed.
Orion went to his office and began working on things for his sons. He was working through everything when he saw his door open and saw Hadrian standing there looking small. Orion motioned for him to come in and watched as Hadrian moved very slowly and nervously into the office.
"Hello there Hadrian," Orion said, greeting the child as he watched him. He was worried that he seemed to be very skittish.
"What do I need to do?" Hadrian asked as he seemed to look at Orion who looked baffled.
"What do you mean Hadrian?" He asked, trying to see what the child would say.
"What work do I do for food?" He said softly and Orion felt his eyes go wide as he thought about how small the child was now.
"Nothing, you ate and that was what you needed to do," Orion said, then saw how worried Hadrian was acting.
"You will start a chore tomorrow, you will have work to do with the boys tomorrow," Orion tried to explain. He saw Hadrian nod as he thought it would be like his last home.
"Hadrian," Orion tried to start and saw the child look at him half nervous. “You are safe here, it won’t be like your last home,” he finished. The wide emerald eyes of Hadrian let him know that's exactly why he was so nervous. When Hadrian nodded, he was sure the child didn’t believe him, not yet at least.
