Learning in House Black

The best thing to do for a child with many outbursts of Accidental Magic is to find the cause of the outbursts. If the outbursts are from stressors or life/death reasons a reevaluation of the child's home situation should happen by qualified individuals. If the Accidental Magic steps in to protect the child instead of the proper authorities it will make sure that the situation that the child is returned to is a much healthier reason when returning. Accidental Magic will always work for the good of the child.

Time worked in their favor for the most part. It took about three weeks for Hadrian to warm up to his sons. It took that long for Hadrian to get caught up to what Regulus knew as well. It seemed that while the young boy was skittish, he was very smart underneath it all. Orion thought about the things that he had figured out with the help of the healers. The boy had the early stages of malnutrition going on and quickly got Hadrian onto the right potions to counter the lack of proper care during the first few years of life.

As Orion watched over the boys doing their workbooks, he thought about how Hadrian had seemed to drift along those first few days after they started lessons. Lucretia had worked with him exclusively to get him where he recognized his numbers and letters, and then helped him get used to holding a quill. When Hadrian made any mistakes he seemed to flinch if it was discovered as if expecting to be punished. This worried Orion until he found Hadrian working hard with Sirius. He saw how the younger boy was given pointers and tips from someone closer to his age and he seemed to relax with the instructions. The fact that an adult doing the corrections made Hadrian flinch was worrisome, but they would work through that eventually, Orion hoped.

As he observed these lessons he found that Regulus started to join them. As they would gather before Lucretia arrived to teach them it was interesting to watch Sirius start to go over things that had been covered before with patience and understanding. He could tell it made his heir feel important as he was helping reinforce the knowledge for himself and pass it along to his brothers.

It was during one of these mini lessons that Lucretia arrived early and she saw Orion watching the boys. She saw how animated Sirius was in explaining something to them.

“So this is why they all seem to know the answers to my questions?” she asked startling Orion.

“So it seems, I have been watching to make sure the information was correct but Sirius is taking this much like his name seriously,” Orion answered as he saw the boys begin to work on their lines that they normally started before Lucretia arrived. He was glad to see they had a timing for everything so far.

“Well I will just have to give Sirius more work to accomplish so he can teach them when they get there, I don’t want him to start to get complacent with the work I am assigning,” she said as she motioned for Orion to go do his own work.

It was going to be an interesting 6 years for the Ancient and Noble House of Black. Orion shook his head as he left listening to the sounds of Lucretia acknowledging the boys' hard work but letting them know that for them to be proper Lords, this was just the beginning. She began to start talking to them about the Sacred 28 and their place within that hierarchy.

Orion began thinking maybe it was time to set in motion a way for all his sons, time traveler or not, to take a place on the Wizengamot. It would take time, seeing as so many of the ancient houses had faded into the background after the first wizarding war. So many houses were still trying to recover from the deaths that had taken their toll not too long ago. It was once standard for larger houses to have multiple seats of power that could be passed down to different branches of the house. Most focused on the seat that held the most power which was the Lord’s seat and began to ignore the Heir’s seat.

At one time there were three seats for the Ancient and Noble House of Black, the Lord’s and two heirs' seats, but due to sabotage against the heirs, the seats were left vacant after a time. To bring this practice back and have more voices involved within the law-making, he had to see how many houses had secondary seats already and see if any had enough of-age members to cover both the Lords and Heir’s seats. It would take time but he could feel that it would be worthwhile.

Orion began the tedious work of searching the archives of seats that all lords had access to so that they could question a person’s right to claim a vote or call for a revote due to invalid casting of the votes. He realized that the Noble House of Black had at least 3 seats that they could use and break out to different heirs for their family. They could all be held by the main line if needed or broken out to their heirs.

Orion would groom all his sons to be prepared to take their seats, he would treat them each the same, which would be a first for an Ancient and Noble house not making a distinction between the heir and the alternative heir.

Running a hand through his hair Orion was sure that the rest of their peers would have something to say about breaking down his vote to different people but for now, he would hold his reasoning. They would be able to bring back all the extra seats and get a full-functioning Wizengamot. He began to write and work on the paperwork for his sons and Hadrian to hold the seats of the Ancient and Noble House of Black alongside him. Any seats that were to be left open would default to the Lord Black of the time, but be able to easily hand them out again should the need arise. He had a lot of work to do to get things settled before the boys were of Hogwarts age.

It was not but a few weeks later that Orion saw Regulus and Hadrian actually playing together. He smiled as he watched the two without them knowing. He could see Hadrian bringing Regulus out of his shell a bit and embracing his more playful side instead of being so serious all the time. He was glad to see his younger son find it within him to be able to laugh with someone other than his older brother. It was just two children being left to their own devices but it was nice and warm for the Lord of House Black to see this after worrying that Regulus was going to be serious and withdrawn all the time.

Lucretia seemed to have given the younger two time away from their lessons for the day. Which could only mean that it was something, not age appropriate, that Sirius was going to be learning now. He walked to the study and looked in. He saw that Sirius was learning his first rite from the Ancestral Book of Shadows. He watched as Sirius tried to learn how to summon the family’s spiritual guardian. He could see his son’s frustration as he stepped in and looked at Lucretia.

“Don’t think about it too hard right now Sirius, right now your Magic is untamed so it will not respond just yet to the rite that you are asking of it, once you have your wand it will be much easier,” Orion said as he saw his son startle a bit.

“Why not wait to show this to me then? Why set me up to fail?” Sirius asked as he looked at his aunt with suspicion.

“I was taught the words and movements needed to summon the guardian at your age as well, It came in handy mere months later when my accidental magic worked with my summon to keep people from kidnapping me from the streets while your grandfather was fighting a group of men that took insult from how he dismissed them,” Orion explained. “So it is not that it is useless just without the need or magical focus it won’t work for you,” he finished as he looked at his son and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Alright Father,” Sirius said as he went back to studying the rite. “Would I be able to start teaching Regulus and Hadrian?” he asked as he looked back at his father.

“Maybe once you have the movements down to your Aunt’s approval, then you can but not before, doing the summoning wrong could cost Regulus or Hadrian their safety,” Orion said and he saw the determination in his son’s eyes change.

“Yes Father, I don’t want them to be hurt ever,” Sirius said as he worked harder to meet Lucretia’s approval.
