Chapter twenty two- Lily Evans
Lily Evans
It's about two weeks into the holiday and lily's been over to Mary's house every day. She doesn't want to be home , she just wants to be with her.
It's odd not seeing Severus over break, Lily hasn't talked to him since he called her that dreadful word. He's been trying to talk to her but he keeps brushing him off, she's not sure how long she can keep doing this until she gives in. They've been friends so long it feels wrong not talking to him.
"We should do something today," says Mary, turning her head to lily. She sits on the edge of her bed while Lily sits against the headboard. “Like what?”
“I dunno” Mary hums, she lays herself back, so she lays flat on the bed. Lily leans forward and brings her hand to Mary’s face. Mary’s eyes look into hers, and a cheeky smile plastered across her face.
“Have you talked to marls lately?” Questions Lily, Mary presses her lips together firmly. “No, y’know her parents” she answers . Mary moves her hand to lilys.
“I owled her, No response. I hope she’s okay, this whole thing with her and Dorcas has been tough for her.” Lily frowns lightly, her fingers twitch over Mary’s cheek.
“I know. “ Mary takes in a deep breath she closes her eyes gently. “I just wish she wasn’t so tough on herself.” Mary responds sadly. “She pushed her away because of what happened with me and Mul-“ Mary brings up the dreadful night, but lily decides to interrupt her.
“Don’t talk about him. His name doesn’t deserve to come from your lips” she mutters. Tracking her thumb over Mary’s lips. Mary opens her eyes, she looks up at Lily, her expression soft.
“I love you “ Mary whispers , she moves her hand up Lily's arm. Before lifting her body up and Turing herself to face lily, “I love you so much ” Mary repeats, her lips meet Lily’s, lily’s stomach flutters as if it’s the first time again.
“I love you too,” Lily whispers back into her lips, lily moves her hands to Mary’s face once more. “I love - I love you” the twos lips come together again. Moving in unison. Mary pulls away from lily and brings her hands up to her face aswell, her hands are warm, and soft. A moment of quietness passes through the two like a breeze.
“I think we should go to Marlene’s house today,” Mary suggests. Lily nods. She hasn’t seen Marlene since the end of school, she’s tried to contact her a few times but her letters just end up back to her. This isn’t completely surprising to Lily, Marlene’s parents hardly let her leave the house during holiday. Marlene has to watch her brothers so she hardly has time to do anything. Lily would be surprised if they were even allowed to see her.

Later in the day Mary and Lily show up to Marlene’s doorstep, looking as presentable as possible, Mary’s wearing an ankle length purple sundress, and lilys wearing jeans with a Fleetwood Mac t- shirt.
Lily takes in a deep breath before knocking on the door. She hears heavy footsteps drag their way to the door.
“Ow stop!” She hears Marlene whine as she opens the door, Lily analyzes her friend, her blonde hair is frizzy , it's a bun that’s falling apart, her baby brother is on her hip, who’s about a year old. She's still in her pajamas, her posture hangs tiredly. Marlene’s brother grabs at her hair unknowingly.
But Marlene’s face instantly lights up when she sees her friends. “Mary! lily!” She exclaims, she adjusts her hold on her brother.
“Here” Lily grabs the baby from Marlene's arms. Marlene lets out a breath of relief. She takes a long blink and pushes her messy hair from her face.
“This one’s teething , so he’s been an extra pain in the a-“ Marlene gets interrupted by her other little brother who’s about four , pulling on the hem of her shirt.“Mar-wene“ he whispers his l’s not coming out properly , as he points to her two friends.
Marlene kneels down to reach his level “You remember Lily, and Mary “ she whispers back to him. He looks blankly at the two girls. Mary leans down to level with him, she reaches out her hand, “Mary” she introduces .
“Go on, say your name. Sorry he gets shy” Marlene nudges him lightly “Maverick “ he whispers, grabbing Mary’s hand. “And that’s Micah, “ he points with his other hand to the baby in lilys arms.
Lily adjusts her hold on the baby who rests his head on her shoulder. Lily's chest feels warm, she’s held babies before but Micah lays so comfortably against her, it feels almost natural. “Seems like he likes you Lils” Marlene observes.
“I guesso” lily coos, Marlene squints at her little brother. “brat’s been pulling my hair all day” she stands back up . “So . What’s up?”
“Just wanted to see if Marlene could come out and play?” Mary asks cheekily. Marlene smiles lightly “I dunno I’ll have to ask” , her little brother tugs on her shirt again and waves his arms up. Marlene bends over and picks him up, and holds him up on her hip. Her brings his hands to Marlene's ears and whispers something into her ear.
“ I’ll be right back,” Marlene says, shutting the door as she leaves. Lily looks at Mary and smiles shortly . “ Do you want to hold him? “ Lily asks, motioning the baby towards her.
Mary lifts her hands up "no. I'll drop him "Lily huffs a laugh. "You're not going to drop him," she insists. Mary quints her eyes before giving in. "Fine, but if I drop him I'm blaming you," she holds her arms out as Lily hands her the baby.
"Okay" lily smiles warmly, she gives Micah to Mary. "Alright?"
Mary holds the baby to her chest, her arms wrapped around him. "Mhm" she hums nervously.
Lily watched Mary as she sways side to side. "Do you want kids?" Lily asks, tilting her head to the side. Mary takes a moment to answer.
"I dunno, I don't think I'd be a good mom" she answers blankly, Mary looks at Lily, sorrowful. The baby rests his eyes, drifting off into a slumber against mary.
Lily feels her stomach twist at the words. "Why not?" She Questions. Mary shrugs lightly. "What about you?"
Lily shrugs, "I think I'd be okay with two kids" Mary widens her eyes a bit. "Two?" She laughs lightly. " a boy and a girl" Lily adds, Mary laughs some more "oh shove off. Nevermind " Lily sighs, turning away from Mary grudgingly.
" Hey . No, lils' ' Mary grabs lily's wrist with her free hand from the baby. "If you want two kids then you'll have two kids. Okay?"
"But you don't want kids," Lily states. Mary smiles lopsided "if you want kids then I want kids" lily's lips grow into a smile, Mary's hand moves from her wrist to her hand.
"I love you, " Lily whispers. "I love you more," Mary whispers back, giving her hand a squeeze.
Micah lifts his hand to Mary's hair and tugs on it, Mary winces. "Okay, okay, take him back. Jesus "Mary passes the baby back to lily. Lily snorts a laugh.
The door opens and Marlene stands with her other brother Miles who's about eight and Maverick they're both holding her hands. Miles waves to Lily and Mary.
"Alrighty, we can go, I just have to bring these three. Miles, can you go grab the stroller bud?" She looks down to her little brother. Miles nods shortly before letting go of her hand and running off to grab the stroller .
Miles comes back with the stroller and Lily puts the baby in, buckling him in. "You were not kidding, marls. The kid really had a grip on my hair. " Mary comments.
"Pft" Marlene laughs lightly " I swear I'm getting a bald spot." She rolls her eyes, shutting the door. Lily grabs a hold of the stroller and starts pushing it as they walk.
Marlene carries Maverick on her shoulders, and Miles keeps a hold of her hand as they walk.
" miles?" Mary clicks her tongue. Miles moves his eyes to Mary "what?" Miles questions.
"Do you like piggyback rides?" Mary squints, a big grin plastered across her face, Miles nods enthusiastically .
"Well" Mary hums. "How would you like a piggyback back ride miles?" A cheek to cheek smile grows over his face. He looks up to Marlene for approval and she nods softly , he instantly lets go of Marlene's hand and runs up to Mary. Mary leans down and lets miles jump on her back.
Mary stands back up and Miles holds on to her. Lily's heart warms up at the sight of Mary. Mary looks at Lily and smiles warmly.
"Okay?" Mary asks Miles, " I feel like a superhero" Miles exclaims, pointing a finger up at the sky. " Well you are a superhero kid" Mary agrees. Lily's smile stays plastered on her face as she watches Mary laugh with Miles. Mary looks back occasionally at Lily smiling warmly at her as they walk. Marlene stays close pointing out things on the walk to Maverick.
She couldn’t ask for more in this moment.
