Chapter Ten - Marlene Mckinnion
Marlene McKinnon
Marlene is sitting on the train, Mary sitting across from her. The train still waiting for students to board.
“Look marls I would of told you”
“I know”
“I’m sorry, it’s just I didn’t even know I felt this way till a week ago”
“It’s okay Mary, I did the same thing when I kissed Dorcas “
The cart on the train door opens. “Did I just hear my name”
It’s Dorcas Meadowes.
“Uh” Marlene adjusts herself in her seat , Dorcas smiles, and walks in.
She sits next to Marlene, and she can feel her face heat up.
“What are we talking about?” Dorcas asks.
No one answers for a moment.
“I know you know Mary” Dorcas points at Mary.
Mary points to herself. “Me? What do I know?”
“Mckinnon and I “ she answers
Marlene can feel her heart in her chests.
“Right” Mary nods.
“And you’re fine with that, right?” Dorcas questions.
“Yeah, yes, actually me myself is ,uh”
“Huh, you are?”
Mary widened her eyes.
“Yup”
“Alright” Marlene says,
“Are you seeing anyone?” Dorcas asks.
“I think so” Mary shrugs.
“You think so?” Dorcas repeats.
“We haven’t really talked everything out”
“Right, so Who’s the lucky lady?” Dorcas akss.
“Lily” Mary answer’s sheepishly
“Ooo” Dorcas smiles.
“Knew it”
“What.” Marlene and Mary look at Dorcas, who’s holding her hands together.
“I see the way you look at he Macdonald”
Mary smiles.
“Have you two talked things out ?” Mary questions.
“Not really” Marlene answers.
“Sorta”
“Marlenes not the talking type”
“She isn’t ?” Mary questions.
“I’m not?” Marlene questions.
“Not to me” Dorcas answers.
“Right”
Marlene looks at Dorcas and Dorcas is looking at her, and she feels as if she’s looking at her for the first time, noticing every mark on her face.
“I wish lily was here” Mary sighs, “third wheeling for hours is not my ideal” she sinks in her seat.
“Why isn’t she here?” Dorcas questions.
“Family problems, ugh I wish I could punch them all in their stupid faces, what has she done to them?”
“Now she has to spend holidays alone”
“We could send her letters “ Marlene adds.
“It’s not the same”

About an hour later
The door sides open .
It’s Sirius black.
“Hiya ladies “
“What do you want, Sirius ?” Mary asks.
“Rude” he sits next to Mary.
“Oh hey Dorcass , i didn’t know you two were mates?”
He points at Marlene and Dorcas.
“Uh” Marlene starts.
“Didnt know you were so invested in Marlene’s social life” Mary says.
“Are you kidding?” Sirius laughs “ of course I am”
“Well then you haven’t paying attention “
“Didnt you two used to date?” Dorcas questions.
Both Mary and Sirius laugh .
“Yup” Sirius responds.
Mary sighs.
“Honestly, I’m glad we broke up” mary says.
“Rude” sirius adds.
“What, we were not a match whatsoever “ she shrugs.
“Definitely not” Marlene adds
“You interested in anyone new” Dorcas asks
Marlene looks at Dorcas , as Dorcas looks at sirius. And she’s never noticed how Dorcas is a few inches taller than she is.
Sirius shrugs.
“I dunno “
“Anyway, can you believe that Remus didn’t want to come to James’s this holiday “ he changes the topic.
The three girls all look at eachother.
“I feel like he’s been so distant lately “ sirius groans
Does sirius have a thing for Remus? Marlene thinks to herself.
Why would else would he start talking about him right after asking if he’s interested in anyone.
“I mean I get what happened last holiday, but he always wants to spend Christmas with me-us “
“Alright” Marlene claps her hands together.
“What are you not telling us?” She adds.
“What?” Sirius furrows his brows.
“Is there something you know that I don’t”
“Maybe”
“We’ll tell me” Sirius leans forward.
“I can’t, you have to figure out your self “
“Ugh, your no help “
Sirius stands up.
“What am I supposed to figure out myself?”
“For the love of godric, I can’t tell you , it’s something you have to figure yourself, like I did”
Marlene can feel Dorcas’s eyes on her.
“You did what?”
Marlene sighs,” you’ll figure it out”
“Fine, see ya , nutter” Sirius groans.
Marlene makes a face at him, and shews him off “
“So unhelpful “ Sirius sighs
He slides the door closed behind him. And the three girls look at eachother again.
“ Hm” Marlene hums.
“We’re all thinking the same thing right”
“Definitely “ dorcas and Marlene say.
“Him and remus.” Mary adds, raising her eyebrows
“Yup”
“I definitely saw that coming “ Dorcas adds.
“You did?” Mary questions.
“Have you not seen those two lately”
“I have, they’ve been more distant lately than usual.”
“I don’t think they’re a thing though “ Marlene says.
“Why not” Dorcas adds,
“Well they have been awkward around eachother, but not in us sorta a way, more of us pre kiss” Marlene says.
Mary laughs “did you just use you two as an analogy for those two?”
Dorcas doesn’t say anything, she just has a smile plastered on her face.
“What ?” Whispers Marlene. Squinting slightly.
“Nothing “ Dorcas smile widens.
“Aw “ Mary awes.
“Mary” Marlene glares.
Mary raises here eye brows, “I think that’s my que to, sweets trolly is calling my name”
Marlene laughs quietly at Mary.
“See you two later” she points a finger as she leaves.
“Marys definitely a character “ Dorcas remarks
“She definitely is” Malrene laughs.
“Look marlene i know we havent talked about it , but i want to know what we are” Dorcas places her hands on marlenes.
Marlenes mouth opens slightly, and she can feel her breath hitch.
“I want us to be , y’know” she paussr and looks down to her hands “ a relationship”
Marlene doesnt respond, she cant find the words to say, and even if she did shes a raid theyd come out wrong.
“Id get if you dont want to its just-”
‘No!” marlene gets out.
“No? You don't want to-” a frown forms on dorcas’s face, and she pulls her hands away.
“No no, i want to, are you crazy? Ofcourse i do ” Marlene shakes her head, and grabs on to dorcas’s hands’
Really” Dorcas smiles.
“Yeah”
Marlene moves her hands to dorcas’s face. And just looks at her for a moment. Noticing very part of her beauty .
“I really like you dorcas” Marlene says softly. Basically a whisper coming from her mouth.
“I really like you too marlene” dorcas says in the same tone. Bringing her hands up to marlenes face.
Marlene leans into a kiss, and her lips move in sinc with dorcas’s. She forgets about the world for a moment, she just drifts away into dorcas’s lips, she tastes of licorice. Dorcas pushes away from the kiss, a wide smile across her face. Marlene does the same, she can feel her heart beating in her chest.
The two can hear the door sliding open, and they put their hands down. And turn their heads to the door. Mary enters the cart, hands full with sweets and she looks to marlene then to dorcas, and snorts a laughs.
“What ?” marlene furrows her eyebrows.
“You two are close” she puts her candy down and points to the two girls.
Marlen looks back to dorcas and relises theyre basically sitting on eachother, marlene scootches an inch away.
“What about it?” Marlene questions.
“You two talked didnt you?” mary questions siting down next to her sweets.
Marlene doesnt answer but Dorcas nods shortly.
Mary smiles. “Good” she states.
Marlene smiles aswell and brings her hand back to dorcas’s
