Chapter Eleven- Lily Evans

Lily Evans

Lily is sitting in the library the day before Christmas Eve. It doesn't feel like Christmas to Lily, she just feels cold and lonely.

The only thing she’s excited about is Mary coming back after New Year

“Lily, can I ask you something?” Remus asks, flickering his eyes to Lily, placing his book down on the table.

“Yeah, shoot” Lily responds, putting her book down as well. Remus is reading Lily's face and Lily can tell since he’s squinting his eyes at her. “Did something happen with you and Mary?”

Lily smiles instantly, just the mention of Mary's name makes her heart flutter.

“Yes,” she giggles childishly. She brings a hand to her face to cover her smile.

Remus leans in. “What did you do, and you didn’t tell me?“ Lily can see a slight smile on his face.

“I kissed her” Lily whispers,

“You kissed her” Remus whispers back, his mouth opening shockingly." Did she kiss you back?” She furrows his brows. Lily nods excitedly.

“When was this?”

“while ago” Lily answers

Remus gasps “Lily Evans, you sneak” Remus backs away and brings a hand to his chest “How could you not tell me this vital information ?” He teases.

His behavior reminds Lily of Sirius’s behavior, and Lily smiles at the fact.

Lily giggles “I meant to tell you but so much was going on, and then we kissed again before she left”

“You kissed again!” Remus remarks.

“Remus, shh” she covers his mouth quickly, “I can’t help it, this is all so shocking “ Remus mumbles under her hand

Lily removes her hand slowly. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you” Remus scoffs sarcastically.
.
“So she likes you back?” Remus whispers. Lily nods, bringing her hand to her face, covering up her smile.

Remus smiles softly, and his shoulders relax. “I'm happy for you Lily”

“Thank you, Remus” Lily drops her hand, to Remus’s giving his hand a squeeze

“Do you think Sirius-” Lily starts to ask Remus if he thinks Sirius likes him back, but Remus interrupts.

“No, but it's okay Lily” Remus looks down at their hands held together and squeezes Lily's hand back as if holding on tighter will change the fact. Lily can tell by the uncertainty in Remus’s tone that he’s lying. Lily decides not to say anything and gives Remus an affirming smile.

Mary Macdonald

Mary is back at home with her family, and can’t seem to push down her feelings of loneliness . She misses Lily dearly, she’s thinking of going back to school just to see her.

Just a week, Mary thinks over and over in her head, she can go a week. But she longs to be with Lily. Not here, not with family, her. Mary wants to be with her.

“Mary, your fathers going to be here any minute, set the table!” Mary's mother shouts at her in annoyance. Mary's parents have been separated ever since she was little, she's fine with it, but she can tell her parents on edge whenever they're in the same room together. Mary can feel the tension in the room, especially during holidays,

If it were any other year, Lily would be coming to this very get-together, and she usually releases the tension for her, but she's not here, and marys going to have to deal on her own.

She wrote Lily a letter yesterday, to ask if she wanted to come to Christmas dinner. She doubts Lily will be able to, but she still has a little hope she'll come.

“Mary Macdonald, Table!” Her mother shouts again “I'm setting it” Mary shouts back, “less of the cheek you” her mother walks to the table, her glare sharp, piercing right through Mary. “Sorry” Mary sighs, she places a plate down. Her mother places the centerpiece in the center of the table.

“When you’re done, help me bring the food over!” she shouts again, “Yes Mom” Mary sighs.

Mary's Relationship with her parents is complicated, that's the best way to put it, she knows they could be worse. But most of the time it feels like she's their parent instead. Stopping arguments, and putting up with their immaturity. She doesn't doubt that they are good parents, but she wouldn't say they're great. Especially with her parent's divorce, she has to be the main communicator, like she's some sort of an owl.

And now that she goes to a whole different school, far away, her parents don't even bother to reach out to her. She feels so alone sometimes, primarily because she doesn't have anyone to confide in, she doesn't have any siblings, she only has her friends.

Just as Mary finishes the table, a knock on the door rings through Mary's ears interrupting her train of thoughts, “Mary, go answer the door!” She hears her mother shout just about instantly, Mary can hear her heart thumping more and more, the closer she gets to the door

“Dad” Mary states, her voice going soft. “Oh look at you!” her father smiles, “You've grown taller” he observes Mary like a statue, and Mary stands just as still as one, “You've grown older” Mary replies. Her father laughs, and Mary feels a swat on the back of the head, “Ow” Mary reclaims, rubbing her head. “Oh don't be dramatic” Her mother rolls eyes, and Mary rolls her right back, crossing her arms.

“Kenneth” Her mother states “Denise” Her father responds “Thank you for coming, “ Her mother says “Of course” Her father smiles warmly, “Thank you for having me” He adds. “Of course” her mom nods affirmingly,

‘Okay” Mary hums, “Aren't you two hungry?” Mary suggests. “Starving “ her father responds, “And I brought my infamous Mac and cheese” he adds waving his dish in front of him, “Thank the lord” Mary cheers.

The three sit at the dining room table, after bringing the food over. After a few comments about how amazing the food looks and prayers go around the table. Her father directs his attention to Mary “So Mary, how's school?”, “Yeah fine” Mary replies.

“Fine? That's pretty vague” Her dad responds “Grand "Mary adds, “What's with the attitude?” Her father glares, his tone changing significantly. “There's no attitude” Mary pokes at the food.

“Where's your friend ? “ he asks, “Lily?” Mary questions, her heart skipping a beat just at the mention of her. “Yes Lily” her mother states “Where is she”

“Family stuff” Mary replies, bringing food to her mouth, just to steer away from talking.

She knows her parents wouldn't respond well to the news about her and Lily, but Mary wouldn't tell them. Her family’s very religious, despite the fact her parents are separated, and letting Mary go to a magic school. Being infatuated with Lily would definitely be frowned upon and not allowed, so her mouth sealed from revealing the truth.

A few minutes pass of silence when Mary hears a familiar sound of laughter come from her front yard when a rhythm knocks on the door. “Excuse me” Mary stands up rushing to the door.

“Mary” she hears, just as she opens the door, its Lily, her presence instantly makes her stomach flutter. She's wearing a red dress and black flats. “Lily” Mary croaks out, taking a deep breath in, she analyzes Lily's face, she's got a bit of makeup on and her curly hair is tied into a low ponytail, and she doesn't have her glasses on. “How? How are you here? “

“Parents changed their mind, and Minnie let me go, they're getting out of the car now” Lily shrugs,” your family’s here?” Mary questions, “Tell me about it '' Lily rolls her eyes, and Mary laughs slightly.

“Merry Christmas Mary '' Lily smiles, Mary instantly pulls Lily into a hug,” Merry Christmas' ' She whispers, melting away into Lily's arms.

“Mary who it is!” her mother yells from the dining room, “You're letting in a draft!” Her father shouts, Mary pulls away, bringing her hands to Lily’s. “Guess I didn't miss Christmas dinner” Lily remarks, holding onto Mary's hands. Mary shakes her head “Nope just started’

“Oh Lily” Mary's mother states, Mary pulls her hands away, her body instantly tensing up. “I thought you weren't coming”

“Sorry for springing this on you Ma’am, my Parents changed their minds” Lily smiles, fidgeting with her hands. Moving her eyes from Mary to Mary's Mom every few seconds, and Mary's gaze never leaves Lily.

“That's alright dear, we have plenty of food, your family came right?” Lily nods “Yes ma’am,” she says respectfully, “The more company the better” Mary's mother smiles.

Lily's family comes in and says their greeting, and all sit at the dining room table, Lily sits next to Mary and holds her hand the entire time, their hands next disconnecting, throughout the entire dinner.

After dinner, Mary and Lily rush up to her room. Mary shuts the door behind her, “God I missed you so much” Lily whispers. “I missed you “ Mary replies, gazing down to Lily's lips. Lily direct her eyes down to Mary’s lips. “You look so beautiful” Mary states, flickering her eyes back up to Lily’s.

“I guess that's what happens when I get all dolled up” Lily replies, “No,” Mary brings her hands up to cup Lily's face, “You’re always beautiful” Mary remarks, Lily's lips move up “Oh yeah?” Lily raises her eyebrows, edging closer to Mary, pushing her against her bedroom door.

“Yes' ' Mary whispers, closing her eyes shut, Lily brings a hand up to Mary's chin, tilting her head up, bringing her lips to marys, the twos of their lips move in sync. “God I've missed you” Mary whispers in between kisses, moving her hand to rest behind Lily's head, and Lilys moving to the door, each hand beside her head.

Lily's lips move to Mary's neck, and Mary breathes heavily, bringing her hands to Lily's hair. “Shh,” Lily mumbles against Mary's neck. And it just sends shivers down Mary's spine.

Lily kisses Mary all over her neck, and Mary just melts into the door, “Lily” Mary whispers, “too much?” Lily pulls away “No no no, not at all “Mary laughs nervously “I've just never done this before” She looks into Lily's eyes, “Neither have I” Lily laughs softly, “and I just really wanted to do this again” mary pulls lily in, their lips locking again,

Lily mumbles something into Mary's lips, but Mary can't make out what.

And Mary could just sink into Lily's lips for hours. This is the best Christmas gift Mary could ever ask for.
