Chapter four- Marlene Mckinnion
Marlene Mckinnion
Marlene has been in constant confusion since the night in the owerly. She doesnt know this feeling, she doesnt recognise it.Every time she sees Dorcas Meadowes now her stomach does a flip, and she wants it to stop. Now they're going to be partners and Marlene has no clue how she'll bare it, she hates it.
She hates her.
Now Marlenes is sitting in an empty owerly, on a Friday, because Dorcas suggested it's a good place to study. Marlene would much rather spend the start of the weekend doing other things, but she's stuck here.
“Well, McKinnon guess you're stuck with me for the next two weeks ” Dorcas teases, sitting down next to her.
Marlene rolls her eyes. “Can we just get this over with?” Marlene groans.
“Right” Dorcas mutters, straightening her posture, putting her books on her lap.
“Okay, so we're going to start with the banishing charm” Marlene starts “Have you read about it yet?’
“Read a few things about it” Dorcas shrugs, clicking her tongue at the roof of her mouth.
Marlene sighs .“Alright then”
Dorcas picks up her pencil, ticking on the cover of her book “When are we done with this? Pandora said she’s save me those strawberry scones from dinner”
“Oh my merlin, we’ve barely started” Marlene says frustrated.
“Sorry” Dorcas widens her eyes in a joking matter “lighten up Mckinnon” Dorcas laughs softly.
“Ugh. I cant ‘lighten up’ this is going to be our final charms grade before winter holidays” Marlene opens up her charms book, flips through the pages.
“Jeez” Dorcas sighs, “I was just kidding
“I'm not in the mood for jokes,” Marlene says, glancing over the words on the pages.
“I picked that up,” Dorcas chuckles, opening up her book. “Okie dokie, charms” Dorcas scans through the pages. A moment of silence passes.
“Okay i can't stand this” Dorcas sighs looking up from her book .
“Stand what?” Marlene looks up , furrowing her brows.
“This” Dorcas says “why do you hate me so much?”
Marlene laughs. She doesn't know what Dorcas wants her to say in response.
Marlene does hate her. Marlene hates her in a way she wishes she didn’t . She hates that doesn't hate her. She hates that she finds herself looking at Dorcas. She hates that a smile forms on her face when Dorcas smilesShe hates how beautiful she finds Dorcas Meadowes She hates it all. She hates herself.
Marlene can't help but shove the feelings down, and pray they go away.
People don't feel like this towards each other, Marlene tries not to. But she can help it.
“ I don't hate you” Marlene mumbles with a sigh. Pushing herself an inch more away from Dorcas.
Dorcas face softens, her lips turning into a frown, and not a word coming from her mouth.
“I thought we both mutually didn't like each other” Marlene adds, instantly regretting the words she had just said.
“I thought so too,” Dorcas shrugs.
“Do you hate me?” Marlene asks softly /
Dorcas stays silent for a moment, looking into Malrenes eyes
Taking deep breath in dorcas starts to speak. “I don't hate you ,Mckinnon” she looks away.
Marlene opens her mouth to say something, anything.
But then dorcas says something “But I don't like you either”
Oh.
Marlene can feel her heart wrench at the words. “well I don't like you either. Meadowes' ' Marlene puts the sentence together, and hopes Dorcas can't tell the uncertainty in her voice.
“So things should just stay that way” Dorcas says formally.
“Right, it should,” Marlene affirms.
Dorcas nods and looks back to her book.
Marlene does the same and they spend the next hour studying, ocasinaly talking about the assignment.

It's breakfast the next day and marlene can’t get Dorcas Meadowes out of her head, she tries to think of anything else but her mind always wanders back to her.
“Marls!!” Marlene hears a familiar voice shout.
Turning around Marlene's eyes meet with Lily Evans , whose curly red hair is a mess and a stack of books in hand.
“Merlin, Lily what happened?”
“I have been in the library since four”
“Jesus Evans what happened to you?” James Potter laughs as he's coming to the table.
Lily slams her books on the table causing everyone at the table's eyes go to her.
“ I do not have time for you right now ” Lily state’s manically , bringing a hand to her eyes to wipe the tiredness out of them, moving her fluffy hair behind her ears.
Lily sits down and moves her books next to her grabbing a book from the pile and starts flipping thro
“Look, as much as I love how smart you are, Lils, this is a bit much” Marlene puts a hand on Lily's shoulder.
“It's almost winter holiday and i'm not going home with my grades failing” Lily looks up from her book her voice moving at a freakishly fast speed.
“When have your grades ever failed?” Marlene smiles softly, comforting her friend.
“Never, but I am not starting now” Lily raises her eyebrows.
“Lily! I have been looking for you all throughout this school” Mary says out of breath ,putting her hands on her knees.
“She has been in the library since four,” Marlene says, turning around to look at Mary.
“Oh my god, you hair” May tilts her head to the side “I told you to not let kids touch your hair, its gets all puffy”
“I didn't,” Lilt sighs, looking back to her friend.
“Again library, four in the morning” Marlene repeats.
“And where are your glasses?” Mary sits down next to Lily.
“Uh” Lily ponders “I think I left them in the dorm”
“Lils, what's wrong?”
“Nothing, I am completely fine”
“Winter Holidays are coming up” Marlene affirms.
“Lily, I told you not to stress out about that” Mary furrows her eyebrows..
“ stress out about what?” Sirius Black asks, sitting down next to Mary, slinging his arm around her shoulder.
Lily's face softens, and a slight frown appears on her face.
“Nothing, I should go get my glasses”
“Lily-” Mary starts.
“I’ll go talk to her,” Marlene says.
Marlene gets to her dorm, and she sees Lily sitting on her bed and she's looking at her glasses on her lap.
“Lily”
Lily looks up and her chins wobble .
“What's wrong?” Marlene asks, walking closer .
“Nothing,” Lily mumbles.
“Do you mind if I sit?”
Lily moves over for Marlene to sit.
“Mary and Sirius, do you think they really like each other ?” Lily asks, not looking at
“Well- wait, do you like Sirius?” Marlene asks.
“What?!? “Lily exclaims, looking up to Marlene “No, definitely not” Lily makes a disgusted look.
“Then what's wrong with them?” Marlene raises her brows.
Lily sits in silence for a while.
“Promise to not hate me” Lily asks, voice cracking.
“Lily, I could never hate you-” Marlene starts.
“I like Mary, like sirius does ” Lily blurts out.
Marlene widens her eyes.
“Oh”

“Do you hate me?” Lily's eyes pierce through Marlene, tears glistening in them,
“No” . Lily takes an exasperated breath. Marlene takes her into a hug, tightly wrapping her arms around her friends. “Do you think Mary will hate me?” Lily whispers
“Of course not lily” Marlene whispers back. right now Marlene cn feel the the knot in her stomach twist , is this the way marlene felt?
Is this how she feels about Dorcas?
Dorcas Meadowes
No she couldn't .
This is the longest Marlenes gone without thinking about her since last night.
Now dorcas Meadowes is back in her thoughts.
Damnit .
