Chapter 3: Secrets of the Deathly Hallows ~ 1899

*Albus*

Albus was asleep. He dreamt of being at Hogwarts where he was planning his trip with Elphias and he was just so happy to finally get away from England. Then all of a sudden he was outside his sisters room. He knew something bad had happened. His mind was screaming "No don’t go in there." He pushed the door open and saw his mum dead on the floor in an unnatural position. He fell to the floor and screamed.

Ahhhhhhhhh

Albus jumped out of his bed with a fright. His eyes darted around the room in a haze and then realised that he was in his bedroom. He tried to catch his breath and gather his thoughts.

Another nightmare. When are they going to stop.

Since his Mum had died Albus hasn’t been the same. He had consistent nightmares and barely left his house and sometimes he would hide away in his bedroom. He missed his mum dearly but also didn’t like the burden he had been left with since she died. He is now sole carer to his brother as well as his sister and his brother Aberforth doesn’t like him. As for his sister Ariana, she’s a handful, having episodes and having to constantly give her calming potions. Albus lived in fear that someone might find out their secret and take her away.

Why me. I was suppose to be travelling Europe. How can I be sole carer to a brother that hates me and a sister that can explode at any given time.

He looked at the time. 6:00am is too early but he just couldn’t get back to sleep. He decided to sneak out of his room and go to his Mums room for comfort.

Her room was quite a basic one. It had a double bed in the middle of the room with bedside tables either side, a wardrobe opposite the bed and a dresser near the window. He and Aberforth haven’t got round to sorting through her things yet, they were too consumed with grief. Her funeral had already been and gone but they just couldn’t stomach the idea of throwing out their mothers stuff. Albus sat on the bed and put his hands to his face as he cried.

I just want you back Mum. I miss you.

Eventually he wiped his tears and got up off the bed and walked over to the wardrobe. He opened the doors and looked at her clothes hanging in there. There was also some of his Dads old clothes tucked in the corner. He looked up on the top shelf in the wardrobe and he saw his Dads old black wool overcoat. He pulled it out to have a look when suddenly a box fell to the floor with a thud.

Hope that didn’t wake anyone up.

It was a small black wooden box with a symbol on the front. He recognised the symbol as the Deathly Hallows, the story his Dad use to read to him and his siblings when he was little. He tried to open it but it wouldn’t budge, so he got his wand.

"Alohomora" Albus whispered.

Albus then opened the box to find drawings, letters, the Deathly Hallows book ‘The Tale of Three Brothers’ and a Deathly Hallows necklace. The more he looked through, the more he realised his Dad believed the Hallows were real. His Dad had searched for them himself and had travelled around the world looking for them, writing down all his research while sending his Mum letters when he was away.

He had a quick read through the papers of his Dads research.

It does look like they could be real, he has a lot of research here to make me believe they are. What if they were real, I could finish what my Dad started. I could discover all 3 and be a master of death. I would go down in wizard history. This is much better than that silly trip around Europe.

He packed everything back into the box and took his Dads wool overcoat and went back to his room.

Albus felt like a new person. A boy with a new dream and ambition. He will make his parents proud.

Albus had spent hours reading all of his Dads research and decided to go to a book store in Diagon alley to see if he can find out more. He got changed into a white shirt, grey waistcoat, black trousers and black boots. Albus looked at his Dads overcoat and decided to put it on and put on his Dads deathly hallows necklace. He will now keep them for himself, something of his Dads that he can wear while searching for both of their dreams.

He grabbed something to eat and then left the house without telling Aberforth. Lately Aberforth and Ariana have been spending a lot more time together. Their inseparable. He was glad they had each other but it made Albus feel lonely. Albus always felt like he was isolated from the family but he felt even more now than ever.

Albus walked to a field nearby and decided to disapparate from there.

He thought of Diagon aAley. Then suddenly he felt like he was being dragged through time and space. Then his surroundings changed into Diagon Alley.

Albus always loved Diagon Alley. It was the magical shops and being around other wizards and witches that made him feel at home.

He walked a couple of feet until he found the book store he was looking for. Albus entered the store and walked down the first aisle to look for any books to do with the Deathly Hallows.

Albus walked up and down different aisles of book shelves, he found a few books on other wizards and witches research on the Deathly Hallows and took them to the counter to pay for them.

The man from behind the counter laughed and said "Why would you go reading about research over a kids story? The deathly hallows are not real boy"

Why does he have to comment. Why couldn’t he just let me buy the books and leave without a single comment.

Albus got annoyed "Then why sell them?"

The man looked angry but just couldn’t muster up a reply. He instead gave Albus a cold stare.

Albus then put the money down on the counter, grabbed his books and left the store.

He will feel pretty stupid one day when I find the Deathly Hallows.

He then disapparated out of Diagon Alley and apparated back into the field near his house.

Albus walked back to his house and when he got a few steps from his front door he heard someone shout his name.

"ALBUS"

He turned around and looked to see Bathilda, his neighbour, from across the street.

He walked over to her with a smile.

He always liked Bathilda. She was such a lovely woman. She helped him arrange his Mums funeral, healed his face when Aberforth attacked him at his mums funeral and she always checks up on him and his brother.

"Good afternoon Bathilda" Albus smiled.

"How are you my dear? And Aberforth? Hope you are all well" Bathilda smiled.

"I’m good thank you and Aberforth is still… struggling but with time he will be fine.”

No one could know about Ariana. His Mum always said to keep her hidden away when they moved to Godrics Hollow and that no one needs to know she exists, except the Ministry of Magic of course but they don’t know that she’s an obscurus and Albus would like to keep it that way. They always had to lie when it came to Ariana. Although Bathilda had suspicions because Albus’ Mum once told him that Bathilda saw Ariana with his Mum in their back garden. This is when they use to live next door to Bathilda but after that they moved across the street as it was more secluded so Ariana could go out in the back garden without being seen. They made out they had to move as they needed a bigger house but Bathilda always stayed suspicious.

I will always have to lie about her. For the rest of my life and even more now than ever as I’m her legal guardian. Why couldn’t she be free to live a life she wants instead of remaining hidden for being an obscurus. Life is unfair.

Bathilda looked sad. "I’m sorry to hear that dear. How about you and Aberforth come over for lunch tomorrow. I have my great nephew staying for the summer and you could all get to know each other, be friends even."

Albus didn’t really want to go over for lunch as he was now on an obsessive path for the Deathly Hallows. He wants to spend his time researching but he didn’t want to disappoint Bathilda.

"I would love too but I’m not sure Aberforth will come. I will let him know he is invited" replied Albus.

"It’s okay if Aberforth didn’t want too. I just want him to know that I’m here for him and you. Well I best get off but I look forward to seeing you tomorrow Albus. Come over for 1pm" muttered Bathilda.

"Thank you and have a lovely evening" Albus said while walking off towards his house.

I guess popping round for an hour for lunch tomorrow won’t be so bad. I have loads of time to research for the Deathly Hallows.

Albus walked into his house and ran upstairs into his room with his new books. He stayed up late reading until he finally dozed off.
