Chapter 2
Luna traipses around the forest, setting up her traps and humming a song to herself. She knows only one tribute is left and she knows she is going to win. Luna is so close to being back in Draco’s arms, so close to seeing her Harry again.
As she sets the final trap she hears some rustling and she knows the Games are almost over.
Luna turns around, shifting into a fighting stance. Searching the foliage for the last tribute, shock rolls through her, so sharp and painful that she forgets to breathe.
Gasping in air Luna realizes the last tribute is a little boy. Trent Bailey, 12 years old, from Distract 3 stares back at her, solemn. Gone is the gap toothed smile he gave her before the Games began instead replaced with a somber yet accepting look. Like he knows that he’s about to die.
Trent moves forward slowly, hands up by his sides before softly saying, “It’s okay, I’m ready.”
Trent stops 5 feet in front of Luna and closes his eyes prepared for death.
Luna is frozen. Sludge moving through her brain, fog in her eyes. She’d killed already, she had to for survival, but seeing a child so ready to die causes something to break inside of her and at once she knows what she has to do.
Luna looks up to where she knows the camera is and gives a heartbreaking smile, tears gathering in her eyes.
“I love you, Draco. Don’t blame yourself Harry.”
After choking out her final words she steps into one of her traps, dying immediately and painlessly.
As the last cannon goes off two boys at home are staring listlessly into the tv.
Their Lue is gone and they won’t ever recover.
