Chapter 1
Susan and Harry were almost to the end. Four tributes left of which they were two. Harry knew that only one of them was getting out of this and he knew it wasn’t going to be him. He’d die ten times over if that meant Susan would live. She’d be upset sure but Amber and Katherine would take care of her.
They headed out to the cornucopia together, Susan unaware of what Harry was planning until it was too late. They fought with the other two tributes, the careers, and finally subdued them. Each with a gunshot to the leg and a slash through the the neck, bleeding out heavily they lugged them over the cornucopia to the wolves below.
Susan took out her gun and fired repeatedly until the wolves were slain and it was just them left. They looked at each other, both forlorn.
Harry took Susan’s hands and kissed her, putting everything he was feeling but could not articulate into it. Susan kissed back just as passionately, just as desperately.
“I’m sorry, Susan. I love you.”
After that last declaration of love Harry took the poisonous berries he had foraged and hid in his pocket and shoved them in his mouth.
“Noo! Harry!” Susan screamed in agony, sobs slipping out of her mouth, snot pouring down her nose as the canon went off.
She was declared the 80th victor of the Hunger Games but she didn’t feel like one. Not when her beloved had sacrificed himself.
