Who's the Heir?

(Hogwarts; Sept. 1977)
Joseph Wilkes rolls his eyes as the noisy lions loudly clap as they get another 1st year into their House. Of course every House was happy to get a new member but did they need to be so obnoxious? The Blonde shakes his head as he stops his polite clapping, pure-bloods were nothing if not publiclt polite after all, even if it was for someone they dislike. After the sorting, during dinner Joseph talks with his only other friend, regulus, while both boys keep a sharp eye on potter and evans to report to their third friend, Severus.
From what they could see evans was sitting more closely then necessary and had kissed his cheek more then ounce sense entering the Great Hall; and while the two teens knew that severus wasnt in a relationship with potter they knew he would still be upset at the news. But they didnt want to lie to him. Hopfuly evans wouldnt do any more romantic things for the rest of the week.
The two teens focus on school, during the month, as their parents want but as they do they make sure to keep an eye on the new Head Boy and Girl and their friends.
Regulus is suprised but happy to see his brother no-longer hanging around potter, those two always seemed to bring out the worst in each other anyway. With that said, however, regulus was worried about sirius' growing hatred of slytherins. It didnt help that some of the entitled 7th uear slytherins mocked sirius for leaving home. Regulus and Joseph went to slughorn and mcgonagall for help but neither seemed worried, but they didnt know sirius like regulus did.
Those other two of the quartet, lupin and pettigrew, also kept their distance. Lupin also sent letters giving the boys a better picture of what the couple were doing; while the two snakes couldnt understand why lupin would help them they certianly werent complaining. They found out that the couple spent lots of time together which wasnt anything knew but Evans seemed to have a bad habit of unabashfuly slapping Potter if he touched her, she apparently was the only one allowed to eniciate contact and if james did then well....
The two teens got to see this first hand twoards the end of the month when Potter seemed to unconiously wrap an arm around evans in class. Without missing a beat the red-head leaned away from him and unabashfuly pinched his cheek like a child, getting snickers or out right laughing from many students, even some other gryffindors. Mcgonagall quicjly gets the teens to be quiet and tells Evans to stop making a scene but doesnt take points for gurting another student.
A few days later things between the couple escalate at lunch. Potter didnt seem to learn as he tried to lean against evans and the red-head quickly stood and then.... a loud slap echoed around the Hall getting everyones attention. The Black and Wilkes teens smirk at the shocked look on the Potter heirs face before he also stood and left the Hall.

James simmers in anger and embarrassment as he rubs his cheek. He knew that lily hated being touched sense being pregnant, he hoped shed get over it when the baby was born, however they were a couple so james hoped lily wouldnt mind ounce-and-a-while. Appreantly not. And the fact she didnt care that she'd assulted him in public? Of course their were times when a woman could get physical, thanks to a law in the 14th century, but even then it was frowned appoun to do so in public.
Yes, james might've been jelious that other couples were reconnecting, and being romantic under the table, and he had hoped lily would be willing to get alittle closer as most couple would. It wasnt like he was touching her stomach which he knew she now hated. But, no, lily apparently didnt want to be touched at all unless she made the first touch which annoyed and embarrassed james. It didnt help that the baby had long sense started kicking and james couldnt even feel his own child kick.
The teen grounds out the password to the portriat and ignores the glares the Fat Lady gives him. James goes straight to the Head Boy rooms and throws hinself on the bed. Looking back; james could remember the angry look in lilys eyes, as if he didnt have the right to touch her. And his friends, were they former friends?, were with-in his line of sight and he could see Remus looking shocked but also dissapointed, as if james had done something wrong. Peter looked both shocked and scared, but that was nothing knew. Peter was always scared, especially of slytherins and james wondered how the teen would handle the real world where people didnt wear colored ties like at Hogwarts.
James turns over on his back and sighs in frustration, he was getting sick of lily superior attitude, as if she was the first ever woman to be prganant, or her need to imitate contact, as if she didnt trust him but then why were they together? James never had to be in an arranged marriage like most pure-bloods so he was allowed to marry whoever he wanted and he knew that trust and atleast liking the person was needed.
Sure the two had been at odds for years, and james had thought without snape lily would be easier to get close too. He had been right as just weeks after 6th year started lily had accepted one of james many attemps at asking her out. She had been fine with close contact and seemed to love when he kissed her. James could understand that lily was pissed at the knowledge that james had gotten her pregnant despite her not wanting too, but he was sure she'd get over it and enjoy her pregnancy and he had been right. To an extent. James had noticed how often house-elves were in lilys guest bedroom but james had hope that lily would be future "Lady Potter" so it was only right she get used to it. She still didnt like him touching her, though, as if he'd somehow get her pregnant again.
Now back at school lily fluanted her pragnancy like she had last semester, but this time james wasnt as blinded by happiness. He still tried to help lily eith books and parchment but he refused to carry /all/ of it, and he blatently ignored her glares and audibly sighs as she held one book or a few scrolls while walking to class. He also didnt obviously stand and get lilys food during breakfast/lunch/dinner as he had. Instead he just let her get what was within reach, again ignoreing the glare she and her room-mates gave him.
Of course james still got the weekly letter from snape. Atleast this time he was wulling to talk about more then just the twins. He mentions some spells james' mum is teaching him or books in the potter library he took an intrest in. The most recent letter even mentioned that Snape had spoken to his grandparents portiats. James knew that his grandmother was a potions prodigy and had helped make his grandfather, Henry, famious with "Sleek Easys Hair Potion", so james knew that Snape would get along well with his grandmother just like james and his father shared a love if quidditch and Transfiguration with his grandfather.

For the first time sense being able to go to hogsmead, james /doesnt/ ask lily to go with him. He didnt want to have to be dragged along to shops or be forced to madam Puddyfoots all day. Of course lily yells at him as he gets into a carrage where remus and peter were waiting, but james doesnt care.
He does pause when lily screams, getting students and professors nearby attention. James cant help but feel concern as he watches lily hands go to her promident stomach. Mcgonagall rushes up and leads lily away but not before james sees a ghost of a smirk on her ussual pretty lips. This angers him and he grips the hand-rail a little too hard as he finally fully gets into the carrage.
Ounce at hogsmead james goes to the small book store in the village and gets a book on wizarding laws for lily to try and help her. He also gets a book on rare potion ingredients for snape. After that james goes to honeydukes and gets candy for himself and others. As hes leaving he sees remus and offers an olive-branch along with a bag of chocolate. The scarred boy gives a small smile and accepts it.
The two teens go to the Three Broom-sticks and as they eat an early lunch Remus asks a quiestion james had been quietly contemplating for a few months. "I know your going through a lot, Prongs," james smiles at the nickname he hadnt heard in a while. Sirius called him that alot during the summer but he'd stopped weeks before leaving and james missed it. "but i have to ask... with everything that going on with you two, are you two still together?"
James opens his mouth to answer but nothing comes out. He wanted to say yes, of course, they were a great couple. But... all the memories of doing the "heavy lifting", not being able to initiate contact or even feel his child kick and move and worst of all what had happened earlier, james would have to write a letter to his parents so his parents werent too angry with him. With all of those memories fresh in his mind james wasnt able to answer his friends quietion.
Instead the brunette just shakes his head and sighs. James' brilliant future were implodong infront of him just because he wouldnt be lilys care-taker while also balancing school.
Remus puts a sympathetic hand on his shoulder and offers him a chocolate frog. The teen smiles and opens it, only to see the card was of Helga Hufflepuff. The epitome of patience and kidness. James smiles at the card and puts it in his pocket. Lily and snape were now almost 8 months along so, hopefuly, in a few more months lily would be back to normal.
After lunch james barrows parchemnt and quil from remus and he quickly writes a letter along with a vial of his memory cor his parents. Remus accompanies him to a small owlery in the village and after leaving the two are surpised yet sad to see sirius and one of lilys room-mates messing with a young slytherin. The two just watch for a moment as Sirius continues to make insulting comments about the student, while the girl snickers behind him, but when the black heir pulls out his wand both other lions intervend.
Srius looks shocked before glareing and says, "What are you doing, james? Shouldnt you be catering to Evans, or has she slapped you again?"
James grimces at the reminder before taking out his own wand and reciting one of the school rules. "Sirius if you continue to insult this kid, never mind pulling your wand on her, then ill have to give you detention and points." He didnt want to actually pull the Head boy card on his best friend, but if snape found out about this...
This just seems to make the other 7th year angrier and he waves his wand, and soon the two are dueling.
