Harry learning who really cares for him
It was April 29 2002, Harry was already getting mail from almost all the wixen in the world. And it still annoyed him to no end, he never felt like he won a war or deserved any of the praise. Ron was thriving in it, shortly after the war he became an auror and is now promoted to head auror. Hermione is well on her way to becoming the youngest minister in history. The golden trio don't really talk anymore, Ron and Hermione broke things off because of busy schedules and they mostly fought for most of their relationship. Harry was going to join the auror’s like Ron but all the deaths hit him harder than the rest. Ginny seemed to be good with him for awhile but when his depression and ptsd didn’t get better, even with the mind healers, she pushed him too hard and just didn’t understand what was wrong. After his first attempt Ginny told him to suck it up and become a real man, that’s when he left her. That’s when he realized that none of them really cared about him since the war was over and his purpose for living was no longer needed. So Harry owled a friend, one that never cared about his fame or fortune, someone who gave him an out. Luna Lovegood.
Harry never told anyone about what happened in 4th year after the tournament. It was right after the feast when Dumbledore gave his speech. Luna managed to pull him aside through all the chaos, how she did it no one will ever know. She took him by the black lake and sat him down. Luna took his face in her hands, looked in his eyes and told Harry that she believed him that Voldemort was back and that if he wanted too that her father and she would be more than happy to take him in and move to Romania or Egypt, just so he would never have to deal with any of it. And he would be able to live a somewhat normal life. That her father would be more than qualified to homeschool them while they travel the world. If he said no then that would be okay too but that he would always have a home and a hot chocolate with his name on it if he ever wanted it. At the end of Luna’s speech he was in tears barely hanging on. She pulled him into a hug and said to just let it out that he needed to cry to feel better, so he let go and sobbed into her hair and shirt. Of course she didn’t care and let him, she could feel his magic finally relaxing after a couple of minutes of crying. After a while Harry was left to sniffles, that’s when he could really hear Luna saying soft encouraging things into his ear and feel her magic sending warm fuzzy waves to him. They stayed like that for some time. Of course when they pulled apart Harry started to apologize profusely to Luna due to the snot, drool and tears he left on her hair and shirt, but quickly stopped when with a wave of her hand it disappeared and she was just smiling at him. He felt a lot better now that he let it all out, he told her that he would consider it and that he really appreciated everything, after talking a little they started to head back to the castle. After saying goodbyes Harry started to make his way back up to the dorms and he knew that being with Luna was the most calm he had been throughout the whole year.
He never took her up on any of the offers due to all the things Dumbledore and his schoolmates told him. Most of the things being said was that Death followed him everywhere and that anyone that he became close to died a horrific death. Dumbledore always spoke in riddles it seemed, so when he told Harry that it was all for the greater good, he always thought he meant that Cedric's death was necessary but nothing he could think of had an explanation for it. Harry kept telling himself that maybe if he left Cedric in the maze then he would still be alive or that if he acted faster. But at the end it all came down to that it was his fault and that was the only thing he focused on.
Luna was of course delighted to have Harry stay with her, after the death eaters killed her father she was lonely in her home. She lived in a cottage up in the mountains on the edge of a giant lake. Everything from her old home was destroyed, but luckily they kept all original pictures, Pandora’s notes and things at Gringotts Bank so she still had those safe. Harry stayed in the guest room and decided that he didn’t want anyone to know where he was. The only people who knew were George and the Gringotts goblins. George came to stay with Luna as well when things got too hard or when he just didn’t need a reminder anytime someone looked at him and saw Fred, not many people actually said something but he could always see it in their eyes. Luna had always been a safe haven for him, she was closer to George than Fred, but she always saw them as separate people and that’s why he would only talk to her about Fred’s death. He would always come to see Luna before and after any holidays or events. George promised Harry that he would never tell anyone as long as Harry never told anyone of him visiting Luna. He knew if word got out that Molly would never leave the pair alone and try to get them together, he also knew that his family would come to her cottage if they couldn't find him.
The goblins were different, two days after the battle at Hogwarts Harry went straight to the bank and explained everything while apologizing in between sentences. The goblins took pity on him and excused all destruction cost of the break in caused, but only if Harry would work for them and accepted a friendship with the goblin nation. He of course accepted and he became great friends with a lot of the goblin bank workers. They only called him in when they needed him to speak parseltongue or information on the death eaters. The same was not however given to Ron and Hermione seeing as they didn’t come into the bank to explain themselves until a couple of months later when their vaults were put on suspension, they were very disrespectful and blamed it all on the goblins. Harry never found out what happened between them but thought better than to ask.
Harry ended up staying with Luna longer than he anticipated and it sparked a romance with the two within a year. He also became best friends with George. He officially moved in the Luna at the end of that year, they spent the next three years happy and content with each other.
On February 19 2002 the happy couple were sorting through Pandora’s notes when they came across the name R.A.B, Harry knew that was the initials of Regulus Arcturus Black. What he didn’t know was Regulus was Luna’s godfather and that Pandora and Regulus were best friends. There was a whole box with an extension charm filled with his notes, on the top was a note from Pandora saying the following “ I do not know what has happened to my star but Kreacher has given this box to me, from what I can tell it is his notes on anything and everything. Some are in a language I do not know, hopefully I can look into this more at a later date. Do beware some of these notes seem to be on very dark and unknown magics. Pandora Lovegood'
Luna knew that her mother died a couple of months after Regulus but no one knew his death date, so she must have received the box from Kreacher between then. Luna didn’t want to but she told Harry why her mother died. She never spoke of it before for fear that he wouldn’t believe her. But Harry did and he knew they were all connected somehow so they researched and looked at all the notes left from Regulus. And it all came back to Voldemort but more importantly the reason Regulus and Pandora died, Dumbledore.
