Pancakes
The two women lay together, relishing in the embrace of the other, while waiting for the house around them to wake up. Amanda planted light kisses to the back of Angela’s head, inhaling the scent of her shampoo with each breath. Angela kept her eyes closed, feeling her skin touch Amanda’s was too perfect. They could have stayed like this all day.
“I think we should get up Ang, we could attempt to make breakfast?”
“Do we have to? Can’t we stay like this all day?”
Amanda smiled, and pulled Angela in closer to her. “We should at least get clothes on, honey.”
She gave Angela one last squeeze, before moving up and out of the comforter, the cold air hit her fast, and all she wanted to do was crawl back to the warmth of Angela, and she was very close to doing so, but she forced the temptation down and grabbed for her sleep shirt and shorts.
Slowly she got dressed, carefully sliding each particle of clothing on her, acutely aware that Angela turned around to watch her. “Do you like what you see?”
A blush swept over Angela’s cheeks, and she nodded.
“Now it’s your turn.”
Amanda walked over to the bed, and helped Angela up, pulling her up by her arms. They hugged as Angela tried to comfort herself in Amanda’s touch, her body getting used to the A.C. that was blasting through the house. She shivered as Amanda walked away, and crawled off of the bed. She stood there for a moment before grabbing her tank top that was flung onto the floor below them.
“This sucks.” Angela pouted as she got the remainder of her clothes on, and the two of them made their way towards the bathroom. Together they fixed their hair and brushed their teeth. Amanda happily helped Angela brush her hair. Lightly combing through the tangles. She braided her hair back into a low bun, and when she was finished with Angela's hair she topped it off by kissing the soft skin of Angela’s neck.
Angela moaned slightly at the kiss, her hands planting themselves on the counter of the sink.
“Not right now Ang, maybe later..” Amanda locked eyes with Angela in the mirror, and then winked.
Walking out of the bathroom Angela slid her hand into Amanda’s grasp, looking at Amanda for approval, and Amanda nodded to reassure her it was okay. This wouldn’t be the first time their friends saw them holding hands together, and it certainly would not be the last. They walked down the stairs together hand in hand, Amanda giving reassuring squeezes as they took their steps.
Once they reached the bottom of the stairs they were met with a completely empty house, the sun started to shine through the windows leading out to the deck and so they decided to keep the lights off. It was around 7 am, which meant the others would soon wake up, and Amanda tried her best to make pancakes for everyone.
“Alright, the recipe says we need flour, baking powder, salt, eggs….”
“Do you think those would be here? I didn’t really see a whole lot of stuff in the cabinets and fridge when we got here.”
“Yeah I think Trevor and Arasha went out and got some groceries for our trip, he said something about trying to make all sorts of food for us so we should be pretty stocked up.”
Angela quietly opened and closed each cabinet as she searched for the ingredients Amanda needed for breakfast. After what felt like forever searching, she finally found everything she was looking for.
“While I make the food, do you want to see if there is anything we could have for sides?”
“Ummm, we have some leftover watermelon and like two slices of pineapple.”
“I guess it’s just pancakes today then.”
Amanda got to work whisking the pancake mix together, and Angela turned on the stove top. They worked seamlessly around each other, only bumping into each other once.
Amanda poured out the first pancake and Angela watched, waiting for the bubbles to arise as the pan got hotter. She moved behind Amanda and wrapped her arms around the taller woman’s torso, resting her head just beneath Amanda’s shoulders. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Angela stayed in her hug until the pancake was ready to be transferred to the plate, and Amanda poured out for the other. As more pancakes started to stack she let go, letting Amanda have more room to cook. As she started to walk away Amanda planted a hard slap! Right to Angela’s ass, causing Angela to make a 180, her mouth agape in surprise.
“Ow! You bitch!” Angela smiled as she tried to get Amanda back, but failed as the other woman grabbed her wrists and held them high, locking her ability to fight back. Amanda kept Angela there, their breathing heavy as a silent dare between them grew. Who would submit first?
The two of them were entranced in their lighthearted “argument,” Angela too prideful to wiggle out of Amanda’s grasp, and Amanda found it way too funny. Especially with the flour handprint that caked Angela’s pants.
“I think your pancake is burning.”
From the couch, rising from the only dark spot in the living room, was Damien, hiding under a blanket with his laptop open on some video game Amanda did not recognize. She immediately let go of Angela and turned around to transfer the burnt pancake from the stove to the trash can. Angela moved to the sink, grabbing a paper towel to wipe off the flour.
“We can pretend this didn’t happen if you want.”
Damien never broke eye contact from his screen, but there was no doubt that he didn’t at least hear what they were up to in the kitchen, and he definitely must have heard what they were up to not even twenty minutes ago.
“Yeah that would be nice. Sorry Damien…” Angela pretended that the flour on her pants needed all of her attention and that is why she couldn’t look up to meet his eyes, but heat flooded her body as she recalled how loud she and Amanda were in their room.
“All good.”
Amanda turned to the stove, finishing up the last bit of pancakes that piled into a huge mountain on the plate. As soon as she looked at Angela she couldn’t help the giggles that spilled out of her. Angela’s body relaxed at the sound, and she smiled back at Amanda.
Amanda leaned in and whispered into Angela’s ear, “he had to have heard us.”
“Yes, Amanda, I realized that.”
Amanda, being the only one tall enough to reach, grabbed the plates out of the cabinets above them. Setting out enough for everyone to have one and silverware to go with. Angela grabbed the butter and syrup, noticing it was actual maple syrup and not the fake sugary kind. She was bummed, it was vacation after all, they deserved sugary syrup.
Once pancakes were plated, they invited Damien over to grab the first one, and they followed behind him. Together the three of them ate on the couch in comfortable silence. Amanda was already reading People.com, Damien returned back to his game, and Angela looked out the window to watch the waves lap the shore.
Eventually Chanse made his way down, looking flawless as always. Amanda did not know how he had the time to always look amazing, even though he just woke up, and following him was Tommy and Spencer.
“Who made pancakes?” Spencer asked, while pouring way too much syrup on his plate, seemingly unaware of the unspoken appropriate amount of syrup you get when it’s the real stuff from the glass.
“I did.”
“Ah, a woman made breakfast. As she should, am I right?” He lifted his arm up to high five Tommy, who shook his head and responded, “Yeah, no.”
His hand was still up in the air and he took the time to high five himself, and from the stairs Amanda could hear Shayne’s laugh.
“Spencer, you did not just say that.” Shayne, Courtney, Arasha and Trevor walked into the living room, completing the group.
“What? Is it a crime to expect a woman to do her job?” Everyone knew Spencer was kidding, but sometimes he played into his jokes a little too well.
The three early birds finished their breakfast and Amanda got up to wash off their plates, and as she went to drop the plates into the sink she noticed Arasha would not look at her.
“Arash, are you okay?”
“Yeah um, long night. Or, early morning. Whichever way you want to think of it.”
“Oh I’m sorry hon.”
“Yeah…you could say I woke up to quite a bit of noise. Our rooms are only connected by a wall…”
“Oh.”
Amanda did her best to try and move on, now realizing at least two people heard her and Angela, and it wouldn’t be long until everyone knew. Especially since Tommy already caught onto her crush.
“So, I think we should spend the day at the beach again if that’s alright?” Courtney threw their suggestion out, and Amanda knew they were dying to have an excuse to wear all of the new bathing suits she got at the store they all went to.
“Fine with me.”
“Same here.”
“Yeah, it sounds good!”
“Alright then it’s settled. Beach day!” Courtney excitedly got her phone out to start her vlog, and Amanda made a mental note to try and vlog something today. Even if it was just a small moment. She made her way back to the couch, sitting in between Chanse and Angela. Angela leaned in and rested her head on Amanda's shoulder, a response that was almost automatic for her. Amanda leaned over on Angela, closing her eyes for just a moment.
“I heard you guys too.” Chanse monotoned his voice, but a slight inflection of humor was picked up.
Amanda shut her eyes tighter, wondering who else was going to mention it.
“Thanks, Chanse.”
“No problem.”
“Should we head upstairs and get dressed?” Amanda asked Angela, who was already on the verge of falling back asleep on Amanda. “Yeah let’s go.”
“While you guys are up there, try not to make too much noise!” Tommy shouted from his seat at the table.
“Oh my god, can you guys just shut up!?” Angela shouted back from the stairs, her hand immediately rubbing at her eyes. “Well, I guess our relationship is no secret now.”
“Yeah, holy shit.”
Angela looked back at Amanda, before responding, “It’s okay, I wanted them to hear you anyway.”
