The Second Task
"Where'd you go yesterday, I was looking for you all over the place." Amelia asked me as we were walking out of the common room.
"It's a long story, but, basically after Draco told me about Thomas I didn't know where to go so I ended up in the Black lake. Thomas showed up and I started yelling at him and then Draco came and yelled at him too. Eventually, Thomas left and then Draco and I stayed to watch the sunset and we fell asleep there." I rambled.
"Aw, how cute." She joked.
"What, Draco and I?" I questioned, looking at her, confused.
"Yeah, you guys would be cute together." She smiled.
"Draco's just my friend, nothing more." I shrugged.
"Whatever you say." She raised her eyebrows.
We made it to the Great Hall and all of the tables were filled with students. We decided to go sit with Harry at the Gryffindor table so I could complain about my miserable night.
"Hey, guys." Harry said, as we sat down on the bench in front of Harry, Hermione, and Ron.
"Hi." I groaned, laying my head on the table.
"What's up with you." Harry asked.
"Thomas cheated on her." Amelia replied for me.
"What!" He yelled loudly, as many people turned their heads our way.
"Shhh, why are you yelling." I groaned at him, lifting up my head and grabbing a plate.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He urged, staring daggers towards the Hufflepuff table.
"I just did." I replied, taking a bite out of my toast.
"When did it happen?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Yesterday." Amelia said.
"Where is he? I'm gonna beat the shit out of him." He demanded, getting up from the table.
"Harry, do you really think that's a good idea?" Hermione asked, worriedly.
"Of course it is. He really thought he could cheat on my sister and not get punished?" He said, scanning the Great Hall for Thomas.
"Look, I appreciate it and everything but I agree with Hermione," I tried looking at Amelia for help, "Hey, Ron's here! I didn't know you guys were friends again."
"I'm gonna go find him." Harry warned, ignoring me and walking over to the Hufflepuff table.
"Harry, no!" I yelled, getting up and following him.
"Ron, do something!" Hermione urged.
"No, I wanna see this fight." Ron said, getting up as well.
Harry walked over to the Hufflepuff table, going over to Thomas and his group of friends.
"Pearson, you're a fucking asshole!" Harry yelled, as Thomas turned around to face him.
"What?" Thomas responded, confusedly.
"You really think you can cheat on my sister?" He questioned.
Right as Harry got closer to him he took out his fist and punched Thomas in the face. Thomas lifted up his face and you could see blood start dripping from his nose.
"What's wrong with you, Potter!" Thomas shouted, getting up from the bench.
What's wrong with me? You cheated on my sister!" Harry responded, as people started gathering around them.
Harry then punched him in the face again, making Thomas fall back.
"Honestly, I'm kind of enjoying this." I told Amelia, walking closer to them.
Thomas got up from the floor and was about to punch Harry back when Professor Mcgonagall ran through the crowd and yelled, "What is going on!"
Once she arrived, most people started to leave. Harry and Thomas then walked away from each other.
"Detention for both of you!" Professor Mcgonagall demanded, looking at Thomas's bloody nose.
"That didn't last long." Ron said, going back to the Gryffindor table.
We all returned to our tables and as we were walking Draco entered the Great Hall.
"I'll meet you there." I told Amelia, walking up to Draco who was heading to the Slytherin table.
"Hey, Y/N." He said.
"You just missed Harry punching Thomas." I exclaimed, enthusiastically.
"No way, really?" He asked, looking bummed he had missed the fight.
"Yup, Thomas got a bloody nose."
"Damn, not bad, Potter." He replied, looking over at Harry.
"I'm gonna go sit with Harry, meet you in class?" I asked.
"Sure, see ya." He smiled, walking over to the Slytherin table.
I made my way back to the Gryffindor table and sat down next to Amelia.
"So, the second task is tomorrow. Do you know what it is yet?" I questioned, grabbing food off of Amelia's plate.
"Not a clue." Harry shrugged, taking a sip of orange juice.
"Maybe you can ask Cedric? I'm sure he knows something." I suggested.
"Yeah, I'll ask him today." He assured.
We had just finished a few of our classes and Hermione, Ron, and I were all walking towards the Gryffindor common room since Harry told us to meet him there. He finally found out what the second task was going to be.
"What do you think the second task is going to be?" I asked them as we walked down one of the corridors.
"Maybe something to do with the golden egg?" Hermione suggested.
"What if there's something inside of the egg?" I questioned.
We eventually made it to the Gryffindor common room, entering at once. There were a few people in the common room but we noticed Harry was sitting next to the fireplace, so we went and joined him.
"What is it?" I questioned eagerly, sitting next to Harry on the couch.
"We have to find the merpeople underwater and retrieve something they've taken from us." Harry replied, furrowing his eyebrows.
"You have to go underwater?" I asked, shocked.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure for a long time too." He responded.
"Okay, then you need to find a spell that will help you breathe underwater." Hermione suggested, taking out some of her books.
"I looked through some books earlier but I haven't found anything." Harry explained.
"Well, we should go back to the library. I'm sure you missed something." Hermione said, packing up her books and standing up.
We all got up as well, following her out of the common room.
"I wonder what you have to retrieve." I asked, as we made our way to the library.
"Probably a merperson egg or something." Ron replied.
"They don't make eggs, idiot," I responded, shaking my head, "Do they?" I asked, looking over at Hermione as she rolled her eyes.
We finally made it to the library and once we entered Hermione led the way.
"Okay, since you're gonna have to be under water for a long time," Hermione started to say, taking out one of the books from the spell section, "Here." She said, pointing to one of the images at the top of the book.
"Bubble head charm?" Harry asked, reading through the words under the image.
"Sure, it's gonna help him breathe under water but how is it going to help him against the merpeople? Aren't they like super dangerous?" I asked, taking out another book.
"Yeah, you're right. I'll have to think of something else." Hermione responded, flipping through one of the books.
We had been reviewing multiple books in the section when Professor Mcgonagall had walked up to us.
"Oh, hi, Professor Mcgonagall." Hermione said, hiding the book behind her back.
"Hello, Ms. Granger. I need you and Ms. Potter to follow me." She exclaimed.
I looked over at Hermione and shrugged, but we both listened and followed Professor Mcgonagall.
We left Harry and Ron in the library and went with Professor Mcgonagall, walking out of the library and continuing down the hall. We walked for a little until we made it to the Headmaster's office.
"What are we doing here?" Hermione asked, with a confused look on her face.
"You will find out soon enough." Professor Mcgonagall responded, leading us inside the office.
Once we entered we noticed Cho Chang, Cedric's girlfriend, was in the room. Next to her was another younger girl who I didn't recognize. Dumbledore's office was filled with bookshelves all around it, as well as big portraits of other Headmasters before him.
"You all must be wondering what you're doing here." Dumbledore spoke from his chair, "You have been chosen to participate in the next round of the Triwizard tournament."
Hermione and I both exchanged confused glances at each other, but continued listening.
"You will all be held captive under water," Dumbledore said as the little girl gasped, "Don't worry, you will be put under a spell that will make you fall asleep."
"Wait, so we're the 'items' that the champions have to retrieve?" Hermione questioned.
"Yes, Ms. Granger. The champions will have to go through the merpeople to get to you." He responded.
"What happens if they don't make it in time?" Cho Chang asked, worriedly.
"The Merpeople will return all of you back to land." He said.
"Why were all four of us chosen?" I asked, reluctantly.
"We chose all of you because each one of you is very important to the champions," He replied, looking first at the little girl, "Gabrielle Delacour was chosen for Fleur Delacour, Cho Chang for Cedric Diggory, Hermione Granger for Viktor Krum, and Y/N Potter for Harry Potter."
"You and Viktor?" I whispered at Hermione, raising my eyebrows.
"I'll explain later." She whispered back.
"Shall we get started?" He asked, as we all nodded.
(Draco’s POV)
It was finally the day of the second task and everyone was in the Great Hall for breakfast before the tournament started.
Amelia, Marcus, and I were all sitting at the Slytherin table eating food when Harry came up to us.
”Amelia, have you seen Y/N?” He asked, worriedly.
”No, I haven’t seen her since yesterday, why?” She responded.
”She’s missing. I’ve looked all over for her and I haven’t seen her, as well as Hermione.” He said, then left to go look somewhere else.
“Y/N’s missing?” I asked, starting to get worried.
”I’m sure she’s fine. Where else could she be?” Amelia responded, continuing to eat her food.
Breakfast had finally ended but I wasn’t able to finish any of my food. I was hoping something bad didn't happen to Y/N.
It was finally time for the tournament to start and everyone made their way outside to the black lake.
We all went over to the boardwalk near the lake and stood near the Slytherin section. I tried looking around the crowd to see if Y/N was there but I couldn’t find her anywhere.
I saw Harry talking to Dobby and decided to go ask him if he knew anything yet.
”Have you found Y/N?” I asked him, as he placed something Dobby gave him into his pocket.
”No, I haven’t.” He replied, then walked away towards the champions section.
I walked back to the stands next to Amelia and Marcus.
”Where is she?” I urged, looking around the crowd again.
“She’s probably still sleeping or something.” Amelia assured me, “ You know, it’s sweet how much you’re worried about her.”
“Shut up.” I replied, giving her a stern look.
“Ladies and Gentleman, the second task is about to begin.” Ludo Bagman announced from the bottom of the stands.
All of the champions were dressed in swimsuits standing in position near the dock.
“You may begin at the sound of the cannon!” Ludo Bagman said.
Right as the cannon went off, all of the champions jumped into the lake.
Thirty minutes had gone by and there was still no sign of any of them.
”How long does it take to get something from the bottom of the lake.” I exclaimed, crossing my arms.
“I wonder what they have to get?” Amelia asked, looking down at the lake.
Immediately, Fleur Delacour swam up from the lake and went into the dock.
“The first champion out is Fleur Delacour!” Ludo Bagman said, as Fleur was given a towel for the cold.
A few minutes after Fleur, Viktor came up from the water with Hermione.
”Viktor Krum is the second champion out, he is now in the lead.”
Viktor and the durmstrang boys shouted as he got out of the water.
Eventually, Cedric came up with Cho which meant that Harry was the last one in the lake.
”Wait, since they are all rescuing people, do you think Harry’s person is Y/N?” Amelia asked, looking down at the hostages.
”She is, isn’t she?” I replied, relieved.
After what felt like an hour, eventually, Harry came up with Y/N and a little girl, who I'm guessing was Fleur’s captive.
Once I saw Y/N come up from the water, I grabbed a towel and ran down the stands to her.
”Y/N! Are you okay?” I asked, wrapping the towel around her shoulders.
”Yes, thank you.” She smiled at me.
"Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory are now tied for first place!" Ludo Bagman announced.
"Congrats, Harry!" Y/N said, looking over at Harry who seemed like he was freezing.
We all headed back to the Great Hall in time for Dinner, with Y/N joining us at the Slytherin table.
"How was it underwater?" Amelia asked Y/N, as we sat down at the table.
"I don't know, I was asleep the whole time." Y/N shrugged.
"Yeah, you should've seen how worried Draco was when we couldn't find you." Amelia told her.
"Aw, you were worried about me?" She laughed.
"Fuck off." I replied, trying to hide the smile that appeared on my face.
