Potions Explosion

Today was the day that the Triwizard Tournament champions would be chosen. Amelia, Thomas, Leo, Charlie, Cedric and I were all sitting together at the Hufflepuff table. We were all hoping that Cedric would be chosen ever since he put his name in the goblet.

Everyone else was seated in the Great Hall, anticipating the results of the Goblet of Fire.

"Now the moment you've all been waiting for." Dumbledore announced at the front of the room, he had been standing behind a goblet that had blue flames coming out of it.

The whole room got quiet and everyone turned towards him.

Dumbledore moved his hand towards the goblet waiting for the flames to change colors. They had turned red and a note flew out from the flames.

"The Durmstrang champion is Viktor Krum!" Dumbledore said, as the durmstrang side of the room was filled with cheers.

Dumbledore then proceeded to move his hand over the goblet and another note fell out.

"The champion from Beauxbatons is Fleur Delacour!" Dumbledore announced, as they all cheered.

Now it was time for the Hogwarts champion.

"The Hogwarts champion...Cedric Diggory!" Dumbledore exclaimed.

All of us got up and applauded for him, shaking his hand and giving him a hug.

"Wooo Cedric!" Charlie yelled.

The whole room was filled with cheers for Cedric as he made his way towards Dumbledore.

"Excellent, we now have our three champions!"

The Triwizard cup was taken out for all to see and everyone was amazed by it. Everyone kept cheering until all of a sudden blue flames erupted from the goblet.

"What is that, I thought there were only meant to be three." I whispered to Amelia.

A note flew out from the goblet as Dumbledore grabbed it and opened it.

"Harry Potter." He whispered.

"Harry Potter!" He yelled again, as everyone turned their heads over to Harry.

"What?" I exclaimed, looking over at him as well.

Harry wouldn't get up but I could see Hermione nudging him to go over there.

He eventually got up and walked over to Dumbledore, getting the note and walking towards the room.

"No!" I yelled as I got up and ran to him.

"What is going on?" I asked, looking at him confused.

"I..I don't know." Was all he could respond with.

"He's a cheat!" Someone from Slytherin yelled.

"He's not even seventeen yet!" Another one yelled.

Harry ignored them and proceeded to walk into the champion room.

I walked back over to the Hufflepuff table and all of my friends were staring at me with a sympathetic look.

"I'm sure it's a mistake." Amelia told me, as I sat next to her.

"How did he even get his name in the goblet?" Leo whispered to Charlie, though I didn't bother saying anything.

The rest of dinner went by pretty quietly since most people were still shocked from what had happened.

"Hey, are you okay?" Thomas asked me as we were walking out of the Great Hall.

Yeah, I'm just worried about Harry." I replied.

"I'm sure he'll be fine."

"I don't know."

It was the next morning so I got dressed and went to go meet Harry in the Great Hall.

"Hey." I said, as I sat down next to Harry at the Gryffindor table.

"So, what happened? They're not going to make you compete are they?" I asked him.

"Unfortunately, they are. I don't know how I'm gonna do it. I mean I'm competing against Viktor Krum, how am I supposed to beat him?"

"That's bullshit. You didn't even put your name in the goblet." I exclaimed furiously at him.

"I know, but, some people think otherwise." Harry said, looking over at Ron who was sitting next to Fred and George. That was when I realized for the first time he wasn't sitting with Harry and Hermione.

"Wait, why isn't Ron sitting with you guys?" I asked, confused. Harry didn't reply and Hermione just shook her head at me signaling I shouldn't bring it up.

"Okay, then." I muttered under my breath.

Once we finished eating, it was time to head to class which the three of us had together since it was a Slytherin and Gryffindor class.

I suggested we go through the courtyard and once we entered I immediately regretted it.

There was a huge group around Draco as he passed around Pins that had Harry's face on it. I sighed and walked up to Draco, grabbing one of the pins out of his hands. It read "Potter Stinks" in bold green letters.

"Really, Draco?" I said, giving him a knowing look.

"Well, I obviously don't mean you darling." He smirked.

"Very funny." I replied, throwing the pin on the ground and turning back around to Harry.

"Oh, come on, you have to admit it's pretty funny?" He said, grabbing my shoulder turning me back around. "Here, take a pin. You support Cedric, don't you?" He took out another pin and placed it on my robes.

"Yes, but I also support Harry." I exclaimed, raising my eyebrows. I was about to take off the pin when he stopped my hand and whispered in my ear "Come on do it for me, love."

I immediately felt a rush of heat fill my cheeks because of how close he was to me that I let go of the pin. I could see him smirking because of my reaction so I turned around before my face turned even more red.

I went back to Harry and Hermione and we proceeded to walk to Potions.

"I'll see you in class, Potter!" Draco yelled from behind us, and I couldn't help but smile.

We made it to Potions and class hadn't started yet so we went to go sit at one of the empty tables.

"Really, Y/N?" Harry asked, as he sat in front of me and noticed the pin on my robes.

"Don't worry it's only a joke." I shrugged, as he rolled his eyes.

"I wonder what Snape's making us do today?" Hermione asked, trying to change the subject.

"Probably something miserable like always." I replied, looking over at the board and realizing we were going to be making another potion.

A few minutes had passed and more students started entering the room. Class was starting and I still saw no sign of Draco.

"Take out your textbooks and open to page 198." Snape announced from the front of the room. "Today we will be making a-"

Suddenly, the burst door open and it was none other than Draco.

"Mr. Malfoy, is there a reason you are arriving late to my class?" Snape asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Um.." Draco tried making something up but he couldn't find a proper excuse so he pulled out a pin and offered one to Snape. "Would you like a pin?"

Snape took the pin from his hands and examined it, then glanced over at Harry.

"Take a seat, Mr. Malfoy." Snape said, though I noticed he decided to keep the pin.

Draco immediately rushed to take a seat next to a few other Slytherins and Snape continued on with the class.

Eventually Snape decided to put us in pairs for the potion and I ended up with Draco.

"Well, if it isn't my favorite Potter." Draco said, as I walked up to his table.

"Is there really any other option." I laughed.

"No, you're right."

"So, tell me, why were you late?" I asked.

"If you haven't noticed, I am still in crutches." He replied, pointing to his crutches who were lying on the chair next to him.

"It really took you that long to get here in crutches?" I said, raising my eyebrows.

"Yes. Since you obviously have a problem with me being late, why don't you help me next time." He suggested.

"Maybe I will."

"You better, or else I'll have to start making up some lame excuse for each class."

"I would love to see that, but, you know what I'll help you next class."

"Great." He smiled, as I smiled back. We were staring at each other for a while until I decided to break the silence.

"Well, we should probably get started on the potion. No need to make Snape even more angry." I said, getting up to go look at the ingredients on the board.

"Valerian sprigs...Aconite....Dittany." I read from the board, then went to grab the ingredients.

"Here's all I could find." I told Draco as I placed all of the ingredients down on the table.

"Great. Could we use your textbook? I think I lost mine." Draco asked as he got up from the chair and looked through my stack of textbooks.

"Of course you did." I sighed.

"What page was it?" He asked as he flipped through the pages of the textbook.

"198." I replied, getting all the ingredients in order.

"Ah, Babbling Beverage." He read out loud.

"What's that?" I wondered.

"Some sort of potion that makes you babble nonsense." He replied.

"You must already know how to make it then." I smirked.

"Let me guess, its because I babble nonsense everyday? Very funny."

"Whatever. What does it say to do first?"

"Add two leaves of Valerian." He instructed, as I added both of the leaves.

"Then add a pinch of aconite."

"Okay, done. What next?" I asked.

"Ooh this sounds cool. Add 2 drops of dragon blood."

"Oh, I forgot that. Hold on." I said, then I went to go grab it from the ingredient table.

"Okay, here it is. Two drops, right?" I asked, opening up the bottle.

"Yep. Here comes Snape, you better not mess it up."

"Why would I mess it-" Right as I poured in the first drop of dragon blood the potion exploded.

"Bloody-!" I yelled as everyone turned to look our way.

"Ms. Potter, it seems you have managed to ruin a very easy potion." Snape told me, as he walked up to our table.

"I'm so sorry, I did everything it said. But right as I added the dragon blood-"

"You added dragon blood?" He sneered.

"Yes.." I replied slowly.

"Ms. Potter, do you not know how to read?"

"Uh, I-"

"It clearly states on the board that the potion only requires three ingredients. Valerian, aconite, and Dittany."

"But-" I stuttered, looking over at Draco who was trying his best not to burst out laughing.

"Next time, read the instructions correctly or I will have no choice but to give you detention." He exclaimed.

"Yes, sir." I replied, as he proceeded to walk to the front of the class.

I turned back around to Draco and he immediately started laughing.

"What is wrong with you!" I whisper screamed at him. "Why would you tell me to add Dragon blood!"

"It sounded like a cool ingredient, I didn't know it was gonna blow up." He answered innocently.

"I hate you, that was so embarrassing.”

”Yeah, it was.” He laughed, as I kicked his leg.

“Hey, don’t try and injure me more.”

”Yes, because that would be horrible.” I replied sarcastically.

”Anyways, there’s really no reason to finish this potion right?”

”Nope, it’s screwed.” I said, looking at the absolute mess it made. ”I still can’t believe I listened to you.”

”Hey, it’s not my fault you didn’t double check the ingredients.” He shrugged.

”Oh, whatever.” I said, rolling my eyes.

Eventually class was finished and I spent the rest of it cleaning up our table while Draco just sat there since he insisted he couldn't because of his "injury."

“Y/N, that was hilarious.” Amelia said, walking up to our table.

”No, it wasn’t.” I replied, giving her a look.

”I thought it was.” Draco chimed in.

”No one asked you.” I sneered. “I can’t believe I have to spend the rest of my classes with you.”

”I’m gonna go find Leo. I’ll meet you guys next class.” Amelia said, and headed out of the classroom.

“You know you promised to help me next class with all my stuff.” Draco said.

”Oh right. Do I still have to do that?” I sighed.

”Yes.”

”Fine, I’ll be nice. Even though you completely embarrassed me in front of the whole class.”

I grabbed all of his books and bag and we both walked out of the room.

”What class do we have next?” Draco asked as we made our way to the stairs.

”Transfiguration with the Hufflepuffs.”

“Great, my day is officially ruined.”

”I’m glad.”

We finally made it to Professor Mcgonagall’s class and the door wasn’t open yet so we waited outside. A few minutes later Thomas, Leo, Charlie, and Amelia had arrived.

"Hey, babe." Thomas said, as he walked up and gave me a hug.

"Hey." I sighed.

"What's wrong?" He asked, noticing the frown on my face.

"Ask him." I said, looking at Draco who was leaning against the wall.

"I'd rather not." He replied.

"He embarrassed her in front of everyone in potions today." Amelia said.

"What?" Thomas snapped.

"Yeah, he made her put in the wrong ingredient and their potion exploded. Snape was furious, it was hilarious." Amelia laughed.

"It was not hilarious." I interfered, eyeing Amelia.

"I'm sorry, Y/N. Do you want me to beat him up for you?" Thomas joked.

"As much as I would love to see that again," I said, sarcastically. "I'll get my revenge eventually."
