Combat Training

Chapter 10

Their first normal morning of their first day was just that: normal.

Except for the fact that it was a Pro Hero imparting it.

They had English class with Present Mic, who was delighted when he discovered he had a native in the class.

There was a time not that long ago when Yumi had only spoken English, after all.

After a couple more classes, they had lunch at the main cafeteria, where Lunch Rush, the Cook Hero, cooked gourmet food for the student body. There she had a chance to get to know some of her classmates a bit more.

She and Shinso discovered they got along well with Fumikage, Shoji and Kirishima, but they couldn’t stand Minoru, they found Aoyama to be just a bit too much, Iida too strict though not as bad as they had feared and Bakugo was simply an idiot who really needed a kick to wake up.

There were more, of course, but a morning was not  near enough time to form an opinion on twenty different people.

After that, came the most anticipated class of the course: Basic Hero Training.

“I… am here through the door like a normal person!”

She could see Midoriya was not the only one in the class with stars in his eyes, but she almost face-palmed at her father’s entrance and words.

“It’s All Might!”

“Incredible, he’s really a teacher!”

“That’s his Silver Age costume, isn’t it?”

On and on they went as the Pro Hero walked to the front of the class. Then All might gave a small speech about what the class entailed and announced they would be doing Combat Training for the day.

Then he gave them some time to go to the changing rooms and get into their new hero costumes.

Shinso was not surprised when she appeared in her new costume, having seen her design already, but he still appreciated how it suited her.

Yumi’s outfit was more conservative than most heroine dresses nowadays were, but still had a modern yet simple cut. It consisted on a dark red boiler-suit, the upper part covered by a dark green bodice that then flowed into a long black skirt with two slits on either side, from waist to calves. The skirt would not limit her movements that way and he also knew it had lots of hidden pockets she could hide things in. she also wore a black utility belt around her waist and a black cloak covered her from head to shins, completing the ensemble.

Despite not being as cute as Ochako’s costume or as daring as Yaoyorozu’s one, the outfit still accentuated her curves and made her long red hair and pretty green eyes stand out even more.

She looked amazing.

In fact, next to her, Shinso felt a bit underdressed in his simple training garb ―with lots and lots of pockets― and voice modulator ―courtesy of Yumi’s brilliant mind.

“No, that’s a sacrilege! She’s the best looking girl in the world and she’s dressed like a nun! No, no, please it must be a nightmare!” wailed Mineta upon seeing her.

Shinso’s face darkened and he was sure his eyes were burning in rage at the purple monstrosity’s words, but then he felt something dark and oppressive settle over the group and Minoru shivered and shut up.

Indeed, All Might had directed the not little impressive weight of his glare towards the small teen, who was now almost pissing his pants without knowing even the reason why.

The teacher’s eyes darted to him for a second, narrowed, and Shinso nodded as he hid a smirk behind his new voice modulator.

Mineta wouldn’t know what hit him!

And then he saw Izuku and it took all his effort not to burst out laughing.

It was too obvious.

Once everyone was ready, All Might explained what their Combat Training would entail and placed them in teams.

In the future, the teams would be chosen according to their individual weaknesses and strengths, but today he wanted them to build some confidence by seeing how far they could reach playing as a team.

And so, this time, he decided their teams by luck.

And again, by luck, it would be decided which of them would be doing the trial two times, as class 1-A had 22 members.

The first trial was… passionate.

Izuku and Uraraka were the heroes that had to fight the villainous duo of Bakugo and Tenya.

But Bakugo was more focused on getting revenge on Izuku for some form of perceived slight than he was on the exercise.

Yumi almost wanted to shake some sense into him.

After all, they hadn’t worked so hard to get where they were only to behave as children throwing a tantrum.

Luckily, her father saw the same as her and stopped the exercise without a winner, giving a good scolding to both teens. Izuku was properly embarrassed, whilst Bakugo was seemingly fuming.

Yumi felt a bit bad for Tenya and Uraraka, who’d had nothing to do with the conflict between the other two, but that’s what happened when one played in a team.

Next up were Todoroki Shoto and Mezo Shoji ―she gave him a thumbs up to cheer him― as heroes against Mashirao Ojiro and Toru Hagakure as villains. The heroes won once more, though in her opinion, Todoroki’s strategy had been a bit overkill.

The third combat was between heroes Fumikage Tokoyami ―who got another thumbs up― and Tsuyu Asui and the villain team made up by Eijiro Kirishima and Hanta Sero.

Unfortunately, Kirishima made an almost impenetrable barrier when it came to pure brute force and Sero had an unending supply of capture tape. She still thought Fumikage would’ve done better if the weapon had been in a less illuminated room and Asui would’ve been a bigger advantage if Sero hadn’t covered almost the whole room in his sticky tape, stopping her from jumping freely.

The fourth combat was between Denji Kaminari and Kyoka Jiro as heroes and Momo Yaoyorozu and Minoru Mineta as villains. Mineta was too busy staring up the girl’s skirt to be of any help at all, but Yaoyorozu had a good strategy: she barricaded the door with metal planks created by her Quirk with the idea of waiting till the fifteen minutes were over. However, whaat she didn’t count on was Kaminari’s Quirk, which electrified the door when she was halfway through.

In the end, the heroes won once more and she was beginning to think it was rigged or something so the villains couldn’t win. But then the fifth combat happened ―Yuga Aoyama and Mina Ashido as heroes against Rikido Sato and gentle Koji Koda as villains.

In the end, Koda made Ashido run away when she was attacked by a band of birds, whilst Sato incapacitated Aoyama after he used his laser enough that he got stomach cramps.

Finally, the last combat arrived. Momo Yaoyorozu and Minoru Mineta were lucky enough to be drawn as the team that fought twice and, as they had been villains already, it was decided they would play the role of heroes this time.

Yagi Hiroyumi and Hitoshi Shinso were villains.

If Shinso smiled a little more maniacally than usual whilst looking at Mineta or if he received a subtle nod from his teacher, well, Yumi would not call them on it.

Mineta and Yaoyorozu’s Quirks were not very physical, so Yumi and Shinso were not at a complete disadvantage. Still, Yaoyorozu’s Quirk was too versatile for them not to be wary of it.

They soon decided they had to separate them.

And for that, they had to separate too.

It was laughably easy, with Mineta ditching Yaoyorozu and following Yumi’s sweet voice.

Only, it wasn’t Yumi that he found.

Shinso smirked at him, hidden by his voice modulator.

The light purple-haired teen proceeded to snare the smaller teen in his powers and give him a trashing before lecturing him on what appropriate decorum with a lady was.

Let’s just say, it took a while for Mineta to look at a woman the same again.

As for Yumi, well, Yaoyorozu tried creating a cannon, but she made the mistake of looking Yumi in the eyes before finishing and suddenly she could not breathe.

The girl stayed still as a statue for the next twenty minutes, which was more than enough for the villains to have won even if they had not tied the heroes up in the detention tape.

And so the villains won for the second and last time that day.

“Cheer up, Izuku.” Said Yumi as she appeared next to the downtrodden teen and smiled at him. “At least you didn’t end up in the infirmary two days in a row. That would’ve been an auspicious beginning to the school year. Besides, this is just the first training; you have time to learn and improve.”

“Well said, hime-sama!” said their teacher. “Listen to her, Midoriya! This is just the beginning!”

“You were incredible, Yumi-hime!” congratulated her then Midoriya, his failure almost forgotten and using the name he’d gotten used to using from her father in his excitement. “I’ve never seen a Quirk like yours? What exactly does it do? How does it work? How long does it last? What…?”

Luckily for the overwhelmed girl, her dad chose that exact moment to begin his review of the last combat.

After that and with a few final words to his students ―and a proud subtle nod to Shinso― All Might left before he run out of time.

The end of their first day arrived and Yumi watched the noisy students surrounding Midoriya with some amusement. Fumikage was lounging on her desk, whilst Shoji sat on the one next to her and Shinso leaned on his own.

And then Tenya had to be the stick-up-his-arse guy he usually seemed to be and chastise Fumikage for his ‘lack of respect to desks’.

In the middle of such confusion, Midoriya finally noticed Bakugo’s absence and run after the explosive boy.

With a sigh, Yumi got up and followed as discreetly as possible, crossing her arms and watching from a distance the boy’s face off. Of course Midoriya would reveal a secret older than him to the first guy he talked with. She shook her head and got ready to intervene, but then Bakugo revealed he didn’t believe anything and her dad appeared.

She shook her head and went back to her friends.
