the pregnancy
Lily arrived through the floo to the potter-black manor. Regulus hopped up when Lily wavered from dizziness, holding her arm until she seemed to be getting her land legs back. “I'm still not used to flooing pregnant” Lily said flopping into the nearby chair while Regulus sat back down in the seat next to it.
Regulus laughed while he summoned an elf for tea. Lily was a little over three months pregnant and had been visiting often whether with Mary or without. Regulus at first had not been used to anyone visiting this often besides Sirius, now he has been looking forward to Lily’s visits. Though when she first visited, she almost gave both him and James heart attacks when she puked upon arrival. “Where's James today?” she asked as the elf loopy gave her usual peppermint tea. “He had some business at Gringotts to settle, he’ll be back soon. Is Mary going to join us today?” Lily shook her head, saying something about a surprise order that would keep Mary late.
They settled into a comfortable silence, drinking their tea. Regulus took the time to look over Lily; she was starting to get a baby bump. Regulus was able to convince him and Sirius’ cousin Narcissa to be Lily’s doctor. though they both will be giving birth close together she agreed to be her doctor during the pregnancy and would look into someone to help Lily conceive. Regulus knew even though she was young she was a very good healer, and she loved what she did; even if she had to give up her work when she married into the Malfoy line.
Lily was cautious of her at first, seeing as Cissa and Lily had house rivalry but soon they became good friends, though Lily complains about her being a strict doctor. “You know you can touch my belly; you look like if you touch it the baby will wither away” Regulus was snapped out of his thoughts by her words. She got up and moved to the couch patting the spot next to her.
“If you don't now, James will hog all the turns” Regulus got up and sat down next to her but not reaching out. “Narcissa said you won't be able to feel movement until your past 4 months” he said looking at the small swell where there was supposed to be a baby growing.
“So that doesn't stop James from touching my tummy and it shouldn't stop you, Narcissa said you might be able to feel the baby’s heartbeat if you focus your magic” Lily said, munching on biscuits that she suddenly had out of nowhere. He reached out his hand slowly, Lily rolled her eyes and just pulled his hand over by the wrist. Regulus glowered at her, but she just shrugged. His hand was big against her stomach, Regulus focused his magic and gently like a feather reached out to seek out the growing baby.
Regulus’ eyes widened when he felt a small pulse in his magic, it pulsed to a heartbeat. His eyes watered as he felt this baby’s…no…his baby’s heartbeat. He heard Lily laugh lightly and took his eyes off his hand to look at her face. She had a wide smile on her face as she laughed between bites of biscuit seeming to be staring off into space. “Why are you laughing?” Regulus pulled his hand away reluctantly; he didn't know if too much of his magic would hurt either of them.
“You magic tickles is all, Mary’s makes me feel super comfy and James’ makes me feel super happy and yours tickles when you do it for some reason” she said as she rubbed her tummy. Regulus was doing it so gently it started to tickle her…he doesn't know why that made him happy, maybe because she said it didn't hurt.
“Are you really ok with me being the godmother…” Lily suddenly brought up. Regulus raised an eyebrow as he sat back and got more comfortable. “Of course, why wouldn't I be?” he questioned.
Lily ate the rest of the biscuit she had in her hand before answering. “Well, I figured because James probably picked Sirius as the godfather that maybe you would want to pick the godmother as someone that was close to you or something…” Regulus laughed a little and Lily glared at him with her lip pouted. “I'm actually the one that picked Sirius as the godfather, he may be a moron but he’s still my elder brother whether he’s an outcast or not” Lily smiled and nodded her head. “And even if I were to choose the godmother it would still be you, you're the mother of the child but you're also a good person and I saw how you protected Severus and other Slytherins from some of the assholes who hated them for their blood”.
Lily turned and laid out on the couch putting her legs over Regulus. “I want more food,” she said simply, making Regulus snicker.
Lily was once again at the potter-black manor for dinner with Mary. Sirius and Regulus watched on as James and Mary argued back and forth. They had moved to the family room after dinner and James has claimed his spot with his head on Lily’s growing baby bump while lily laid down on the couch. Lily now being five months pregnant was ignoring the proceedings in favor of a good book Severus had gotten her. “She's my wife, I deserve cuddles!” Mary narrowed her indigo eyes at the man who refused to leave her wife. “And she's the mother of my child, I think I beat you!” James stuck his tongue out at her childishly.
Sirius was getting far too much entertainment out of this, and Regulus was very embarrassed. “I.will.Hex.you!” Mary snapped. Lily raised her hand and said casually “baby on board” as she kept reading. James looked victorious until Sirius opened his mouth. “Hey Lils if I use a heating charm will you let me rub your belly? I'm sure it’ll help with your aches and pains” Sirius said as he sat sideways on the couch on the other side of the coffee table.
Lily with surprising strength pushed James off, him falling to the floor. She got up and sat down with Sirius, back to his chest getting comfortable not even looking up from her book. Everyone was stunned until James yelled “what!” scrambling up from the floor as Regulus died silently of laughter in the wingback chair. “Shut up, I'm on a good part” was all Lily said. Taking advantage of James' confusion Mary bolted to sit on the couch and put Lily’s legs over her lap. As James struggled with words Mary just flipped him a rude gesture.
Lily surprisingly was at Malfoy manor, having just finished a checkup with Narcissa who also looked very pregnant. Narcissa being at her wits end with her pregnancy and Lily right behind her. “Lucius is scared to approach me because I started crying when he got me candy from sugarplums in Daigon, he thought he made me cry the poor dear” Lily laughed as she drank her tea that Mipsy the elf brought.
“I feel so bad for Mary, I keep waking her up at night because I have these cravings for the food she and Sweety cook, and it doesn't taste right when Regulus or James cooks it” they were both laughing as Lucius walked into the room.
Narcissa looked up from where she sat “Lucius dear, we were just talking about you” Lucius looked visibly paler, “good things I hope…” Narcissa nodded with a big smile. He sat down in one of the chairs next to Narcissa at the table the ladies had been talking at.
“Oh, it crossed my mind the other day. What were you planning on naming your son?” Lily asked, setting down her teacup. Narcissa’s eyes started to twinkle when she answered “well you know how the Blacks like to name their children after stars and constellations, I wanted to continue the theme and want to name him Draco. I've always been jealous of my cousins and sisters for them having constellations for names and I didn't. Well anyway have Regulus and James thought of a name for their boy?” Lucius was content to just sit and listen to the two ladies' gossip.
“James is insisting on Harry, but Regulus said it's to muggle, they are fighting over Harrison or Hadrian” Lily said exasperated. “I want Hadrian more than Harrison, but James is now insisting on Harrison, I think you're doing this out of spite now” Came Regulus’ voice as both men entered the parlor. Lucius rolled his eyes at the men, “I don't understand how you two are together when you fight over everything” Lucius said while grabbing his cup of tea with a gloved hand.
James chuckled as he sat down across from Lily, Regulus sitting next to him. “We're just embracing the saying ‘you fight like a married couple’” James shrugged. “Well, it’s either you choose before he’s born or I'll choose for you two fools” Lily snapped. James raised his hands in surrender “ok ok, calm down lady Evans-Macdonald” Lily made a rude gesture at him, and Regulus hid a smirk. “Anyway, how's my darling cousin doing? Sirius said he would come by but is scared you would smite him” Narcissa went to answer but her eyes grew wide. “My water broke” everyone's heads snapped to look at her. There was no motion for a full five seconds then everything erupted into chaos. Regulus, being the only one remotely able to operate the floo to call in the panic, got a hold of Ted Tonks.
At some point they were able to get a very angry Narcissa into the clean room they had planned for the birth. Lucius had fainted at some point through the birth and lily had to take over holding Narcissa’s hand because everyone else was scared of the angry and prone to hex witch. Then on a very sunny day on the 5th day of June Draco Lucius Malfoy was born. And Lucius in the end cried more than Narcissa did.
It was a lazy day almost a month after Draco's Birth, Lily was lounging on the couch in her home around lunch time. Regulus and James had refused to leave her alone, one of them being with her and Mary at all times for the past month. Sirius, Remus and Peter come over sometimes to relieve her of her boredom because Severus refuses to let her go to work. Saying that he refuses to allow her to have a baby on the floor of their shop. Regulus was currently reading and lounging on the couch opposite of her while they listened to James and Mary chatter on about transfiguration from the other room. “I'm bored” Lily pouted her lip, “hi bored I'm dad” Lily furrowed her eyebrows with a smile over to Regulus who still had his nose buried in his book.
“Reg~” she stretched out the nickname, throwing a pillow from her couch at him. He swiftly blocked it with his book and looked at her over the top of it. “Am I fat?” she asked, there was a barely audible oh no from Regulus. Lily had already had this conversion with both men and Mary at least once before, so Regulus knew what was coming.
“Your pregnant not fat Lils” Lily couldn't even answer before she broke out in a sob. “That doesn't mean I'm not fat though!” she cried, Regulus sighed putting his book down; Severus was right, Lily was crazy enough without being pregnant. He got up and went to the couch the hormonal pregnant Lily sat on and started rubbing her back. Hearing the sobs Mary and James entered the room, “what's wrong love?” Mary asked and that just made Lily cry harder “I'm gonna be fat!” James and Mary winced and gave each other a look.
The fireplace lit up green as a pale blonde walked through. Lucius looked at the four people in the room as they stared back. Lily let out a sob and Lucius turned a shade paler than his hair. “Um, maybe I should come back later…” Lucius started after looking at Lily with slight fear; It was like he grew a fear of pregnant witches after Narcissa. Regulus got an odd look on his face where he sat with an arm around Lily. He looked down at his lap and yelped, yes, the proud black yelped and sprung from where he sat. “Lily the couch is all wet!” he yelled. “Oh, dear merlin, did your water break? Did you not notice!” Mary yelled.
Lucius let out a loud nope and went back through the floo with an I’ll come back later. James was the one to floo call Tonks this time. Instead of being angry and in pain like Narcissa it was Like Lily didn't feel it until she had to actually push which then she had actually sent a stinging hex at James for saying a very bad joke. Regulus looked very green, and he wasn't even in the room, rather staying outside after being traumatized by Narcissa. On a nice evening on the 31st day of July, Hadrian Effie Potter-Black was born.
