Sirius
Sirius walked into his potions classroom. He was, shockingly, early. All of them but Remus (who was at ancient Runes) had a free period, and Peter was finishing, demolishing someone no doubt, a chess game, so him and James somehow found themselves in the dungeons five minutes earlier than anticipated.
He stopped.
“Do you smell that?” he asked.
“Smell what?” James asked with a yawn, although he sniffed afterwards, staring into nothing across the room.
“It smells like chocolate in here, that one Remus likes. Maybe we're cooking or something” he replied.
“Anything else?” James enquired. “I think my nose is blocked”.
“Books. And fresh parchment. What is this, the library? Smells kinda nice actually”
“Sirius, do me a favour and look at the board”
Sirius turned to looke the the blackboard beside the bubbling cauldron. Written across it in large letters was one word.
Amortentia.
Shit
“James” he whispered. “You can't tell him James, please don't tell him”
“Sirius, I wouldn't, don't worry. Although to be honest I had my suspicions.”
Sirius started to feel a sense of panic. James could tell? He hadn't been obvious though, maybe he could only tell because he's James, no one else knew him that well.
Except for Remus.
“Does Remus know?” Sirius turned, a frantic look in his eyes.
“He hasn't said anything to me about it, but i don't know, honestly” James replied.
“James you're supposed to be reassuring me!”
“Reassuring you about what?” Peter questioned, taking his seat, although he didn't see to really care about the answer as he immediately followed with
“Is Mary here yet? Smells like her perfume.”
“Pretty sure we're doing Amortentia today mate” Remus said as he sat down.
“Oh” Peter said meekly, face heating up a little while his friends smiled.
Remus turned to Sirius with a strange expression on his face, but before he could ask what, class began.
While they were chopping their ingredients (him with James to avoid any situation with Remus) James gave him a funny look too.
“What is it, do I have something on my face?” he asked, confused.
“No, just thinking, that's all” he replied.
“Well think more carefully, or else you might accidentally cut your arm again”
“Hm yeah, wouldn't want to do that”
Sirius sighed, rolling his eyes. James was clearly somewhere else right now, probably thinking of a new prank or something.
“Thanks for not telling him James” he said quietly.
“Hmm?” he hummed, looking up. “Oh, of course, why would I?” They smiled and kept working.
He could always count on James.
