Chapter 12
“You know, you three are so u-utterly cruel!” Collin exclaimed angrily, “We’re just trying to give hope to someone in need.”
Moxxie rolled his eyes, “Oh and you three are so superior to us just because we want some selfish, greedy, authoritarian capitalist to keel over dead!”
Seren frowned, “He’s right. Why is heaven trying to save the life of a man that will definitely never go to heaven due to his sins?”
Collin stuttered, “I-I don’t…”
Collin trailed off, unsure how to respond to the question. Why were they trying so hard for a terrible man? He noticed his colleagues glare and looked away, morphing his features into a scowl. The cherubs noticed his ‘appropriate’ reaction to Seren’s question and nodded in approval.
“You’re making things too real now, Moxxie.” Blitzo said as he took out a bottle labeled piss and spraying Moxxie in the face with it.
Moxxie recoiled in disgust before they all noticed the cherubs had begun to leave with Lipton without them. They all quickly followed them and they all entered an opera house. The cherubs took Lipton to sit amongst the audience in his bed while the demons went backstage. The demons went above the stage where the spotlight was and listened to the opera singer begin her song alongside a pianist.
“Behold! The wonder of art and music!” Cletus told Lipton happily, “Something always here to comfort, entertain, and livefor.”
“So… how do we make this bad?” Millie asked.
“We can’t. There’s literally nothing bad about opera. That’s fact.” Moxxie replied.
“Unless, we ruin it somehow.” Blitzo said as he grabbed the spotlight and began to move it away from where the opera singer stood.
Seren stifled a giggle as he watched Blitzo continuously move the spotlight and the opera singer scrambling to remain underneath the light.
“She’s not very good.” Lipton said with a frown.
The cherubs watched the scenes with skepticism, wondering why the singer was moving so much on the stage and interrupting her own singing. Lipton and the cherubs eyes narrowed as the singer moved faster and faster on the stage while singing even more sporadically. The imps grinned with dark amusement as they watched their reactions and Seren had his face buried into Vortex’s chest to suppress his laughter at how ridiculous the singer sounded. However, the cord holding the light up snapped and the imps all gasped. Seren looked back towards the stage to see what had happened, only to see the singer get crushed by the spotlight. His eyes were wide, surprised by how the blood hadn’t splattered over some of the audience. The demons all watched as the human audience, Lipton, and the three cherubs shrieked in horror at the sudden death. The pianist gulped nervously, but continued to play his music for the now horror-struck audience.
Blitzo blinked before grinning, “Well, at least we made it bad.”
The three cherubs quickly rose into the air and floated before them angrily.
“That’sit! I have had it! You three monsters have messed with us enough!” Cletus screamed.
“W-w-we’re just trying to do our j-j-job!” Collin stuttered angrily.
“Well, so are we.” Moxxie replied
“Enough!” Cletus yelled shrilly as he summoned his heavenly weapon.
His fellow cherubs quickly following his example, pointing their weapons at the imps angrily.
“We are saving that shitty old man’s life whether he want it or not!” Cletus continued, finally revealing his true colors.
Keenie nodded in angered agreement of his words while Collin looked concerned and disappointed by the words uttered by his co-worker. He quickly schooled his features into a matching look of anger that his fellow cherubs currently had. Seren’s eyes narrowed, this wasn’t the first time he’d noticed Collin reacting differently to his companions until he schooled his expression to match their own before they noticed it. He hoped Collin took his advice and stopped copying his colleagues when he obviously didn’t agree with them.
“Well, someone wants that fucker dead, okay? And he paid in advance and I spent it all on this!” Blitzo replied as he quickly pulled out a jeweled green my little pony.
The pony had a marijuana cutie mark and was wearing a pair of sunglasses as well as a hat labeled ‘Mareajuana’.
Seren stared at the bejeweled mini horse figurine in shocked disbelief before turning to Vortex, “Why in Lucifer would he buy that thing?”
Vortex stared at it with a raised eyebrow, “By this point we should just stop being surprised by what Blitzo does… It’s probably easier that way. Although, given his obvious obsession with horses, it’s not that far fetched for him to spend his money on a figurine of one. Now let’s get you away from here before they start fighting.”
Blitzo quickly pocketed the figurine before continuing his rant, “So he’s got to go!”
Keenie got in his face as she could no longer stand being around the demons, “You are all such disgusting, loathsome beasts! Your kind is nothing, but dirt that shitty dead people tread on! And now you’re trying to meddle with the lives of humans!”
Millie quickly picked her boss up like he was as light as a newborn kitten and holding him behind her protectively. Vortex, still carrying Seren, quickly moved for cover as he knew it was about to get ugly very quickly.
She quickly got into the offending cherub’s face, “So are you! So why don’t you shut your trap you judgmental, cotton candy, tit-having bitch!”
Keenie blinked before her face transformed into an angered snarl as she pushed Millie down, “Filthy demon!”
They all watched as Millie and Keenie fought on the ground before the imps noticed the other two cherubs trying to take advantage of their distraction to shoot at them. They quickly dodged the arrows of light fired at them, running past the two girls fighting one another. When a stray arrow nearly hit Seren as Vortex hurried him off to safety, Collin quickly stopped his pursuit of Blitzo and Moxxie to intercept the arrow. Cletus was too focused on trying to kill the imps to notice that his co-worker had left his side. Collin gasped as the arrow pierced his side, bleeding a silver and shimmery form of blood.
“Vortex! We have to help him!” Seren told his bodyguard, causing Vortex to skid a bit as he changed directions as quickly as he could.
Vortex snatched the fallen Cherub and continued to race away from the fight.
“Are you okay, Collin?” Seren asked in concern.
He was happy that the cherub had made his own decision for once, but also upset that he had gotten hurt in the process.
“I’m fine, little one. Don’t worry about me. Are you okay?” Collin asked the demon child.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry, Vortex will help you and you’ll be as good as new.” Seren told him with a smile, happy that Collin was worried for him.
Collin smiled softly, glad Seren was okay. He watched the fading forms of his co-workers, saddened by the intense anger twisting their faces into something ugly. He then turned back to look at the demons that were carrying him to safety.
Vortex took out his cellphone and called Loona, “Seren and I need to come through the portal. Can you open it? The imps are busy, but will come through soon.”
“Will you come with us, Collin?” Seren asked the cherub hesitantly.
I don’t think all demons are evil anymore. That means… I can’t go back to heaven, can I? Cletus and Keenie will make sure I get banished for being a 'traitor'… Collin thought to himself.
Collin stared at the demon child for a few moments before he smiled softly, “I doubt heaven will allow me to return. I-I’ll come with you to h-hell.”
“A friend will be joining us, “Vortex told Loona on the phone as the portal opened up before them, showing Collin the view of an office.
There’s no going back now. Collin thought to himself as they all went through the portal and into the hell, the portal quickly closing behind them.
