Traveling
Hermione had started taking it upon herself to pack the company's belongings every morning into her charmed bag. The time they would encounter the goblin king was approaching fast.
As if the cosmos heard her thoughts, it started raining. Harry took a turn and cast the spells to wick the water away from everyone. He got nods of thanks from the dwarves while their shortest companion smiled.
They reached the foot of the mountain by midmorning. Knowing the plan the two magic casters separated one to the front of the line and one next to Bilbo.
Thorin gave Hermione a questioning look but didn't say anything. He listened as his sister's sons regaled her with several tales of the pranks they had pulled when they were small dwarfings. As Thorin gave the laughing trio a fond look he wished that he would be able to always recall the sound of their laughter.
Meanwhile Harry was casting sticking spells to the bottom of Bilbo's feet. Good thing too, as he had already stopped Bilbo from sliding down the slope of the mountain twice.
Bilbo looked up at Harry to thank him when he saw the side of the mountain across from them stand up. Next thing they knew, Bofur was shouting about stone giants.
As the giant picked up a chunk of the next mountain to throw at another, this one only sporadically seen threw the lightning. The company looked for a safe place to hide. Unfortunately they soon realized that the company was standing on another giant as they were violently separated. Reeling in stunned horror Thorin watched as a crippling blow landed and the knee that his youngest nephew was on, collided with the mountain.
They raced to where they had seen the other half of the company, hoping there were survivors. As the rounded the corner it was to the most amazing sight. They had all managed to be in one piece.
Once they had found a safe dry cave to shelter from the storm. Harry revealed that he had cast a shield spell and that had saved them. Clapping the green eyed man on the shoulder in thanks, he then drew his rambunctious nephews into a hug.
They didn't unpack that night as fire could give any unwanted guests their location. The dwarves huddled together to warm up. Hermione cast drying and warming charms on everyone, she knew they were wet and miserable. She pulled out some preserved rations. Handing the food out to the company they gave grateful looks. The company settled in for the night.
