Hope Given In A Dream

As the fire died down to a smolder he placed a new log in the fire to keep warm, these new tents were a kindness that he had not expected. It gave him an insight into the mind of his two new companions. He realized that they may have crafted things for his company, to give them a sense of comfort during their travels. This was not something anyone had done for them before. Before he laid down for bed he gave a small prayer to Mahal for good luck in their travels, and hope for their quest.

That night Thorin dreamed of a faceless woman. Somehow he knew, he knew her. She was surrounded by children, one who looked like him and others that looked an awful lot like his nephews. As he stood there the youngest child looked over at him and smiled. The child had his unruly hair and somehow he knew her smile. Then the child looked back at the woman and whispered something to her, she nodded and the child ran to him. As the child got closer he could tell that it was a boy and when he reached Thorin, he lifted the boy upon his hip.

“Daddy, you’re home.” the boy said happily, the biggest grin on his face.

“Yes I am, little one, how was your mother while I was gone?” Thorin questioned.

“Mommy was good, sad but good. She missed you bunches. "The boy looked around to make sure his mother wasn't paying attention to him and whispered,” mommy has a surprise for you daddy. I promised not to tell.”

“Well then child thank you for telling me, but listen to your mother she always has a reason for keeping surprises.” Thorin said his tone lowered so that only the child could hear him.

He lowered the boy back to the floor and he went off to play with his cousins. As the child played his mother crossed the room to stand by his side.

“How did the meeting with Thranduil go, did he agree with the new trade agreements?” she asked.

“It went well, the agreements were signed, and ready to be implemented. I could have done without the snide comments tho, he only ever stills his lips when you are around my love." Thorin told her.

She laughed softly and said “He only does it to annoy you my darling, if you just stopped reacting he would stop.”

He looked at her exasperatedly, “you always say that but it's hard not to respond when he says you're too good for me and that you deserve better. I know that you chose me over everything and I will always cherish the day you agreed to marry me, the second happiest day was the birth of our son.”

She looked lovingly at him and whispered, “ Well then this will be the third happiest day my love, we are to be blessed with another child.”

As he leaned down to kiss her the dream started fading. He awoke to a feeling of contentment and knew it was a good dream, the details had faded away as he woke up but the boy's face was the last image he remembered.

The dream had given him hope for the future, for the quest, and for the lives of his kin.
