A Look at The Past

As they traveled the paths leading away from Rivendell, Thorin couldn't help but reminisce about how his life and the lives of his family had changed. The reason they were fighting so hard to give their people a safe home, never to wonder who may not make it thru the winter, or did they have enough food, blankets and medicine incase of a hard winter. He would always remember and the images started playing in his head.

The dragon had come, leaving his people with nothing but the clothes on their backs, and whatever family they had who had made it out of Erebor. They picked their way across middle earth, trying to find a safe place to rebuild their lives. They lost many more over years, enduring one harsh winter after another, until they reached the Blue Mountains. There they built shelters, and mined iron from the very rock that made up their new home.

Thorin and a handful of other dwarves traveled selling the farming tools, and weapons they made. They also sold their services as blacksmiths. They were talented at making many items and the towns they stopped in were grateful of the skills which the dwarves had.

After a decade of traveling the blue mountains were finally self-sufficient enough for Thorin to return and lead his people. Returning home he was approached by a darrow named Vili, asking permission to court his sister. Upon speaking with her he decided to allow Dis to be courted by Vili as he had seen the happiness upon her face, as she had told thorin that vili was her one.

As the peaceful years went by and his family was joined by two little dwarves named Fili and Kili, his sister sons. Alas the peace could not last, while Vili had gone on a scouting trip. The scouts had been ambushed and none had made it.
The party had been found by a returning hunting party and their body's retrieved for burial.

Fili and Kili had been too young at the time to remember the father who loved them. Thorin helped their mother raise them. The boys kept him and their mother busy, either with the outraged yells of whoever it was the boys decided to prank this time, or with their lessons in business or in combat. The boys definitely enjoyed keeping them on their toes. He would never forget the day the dragon came, and he would never forget the elves turning their backs upon their suffering, but the boys helped elevate some of the pain they had endured.

A time came when Thorin met Gandalf at the prancing pony, this would start events that would forever shape middle earth for good or worse.
