The Sass of A Healer
Hermione thought back on the many years that they had spent in Middle Earth. They had learned healing and combat from the Elves in Rivendell. They had searched out the majestic land as a possible safe place to raise their young godson. They told Lord Elrond where they were from and the troubles they had experienced. Lord Elrond let them stay and raise their charge in peace, only asking that they share the medical knowledge and potions recipes. Hermione was excited to share her knowledge and to learn their way of healing. Lord Elrond's sons even taught them how to wield swords and the bow and arrow. They decided if they were going to live in this land that they needed to know how to protect themselves and not just with magic and took to their lessons with gusto.
Hermione took to the twin swords and flourished in spars. Meanwhile Harry learned how to wield the sword of Gryffindor. He learned that the sword had a name; Annora, and a very sassy personality; she refused to let Harry wield any other sword. Everytime he tried to pick one up she materialized. They spend many years learning, sharing knowledge, and just spending time with their godson that before they knew it a century had passed. Teddy was no longer the baby that he had once been. He was now off exploring and defending those who couldn't fight for themselves. Hermione’s potions and herb knowledge had saved many. Elf, Dwarf, and Man she helped those she could. Unfortunately they had arrived in middle earth just after the battle of Moira. Her heart hurt for the families who lost dear ones that day.
Her instincts told her that things were about to get interesting, looking to Harry he nodded at her, they would be prepared.
Hermione rushed into the room breathing a little heavily as she had to run to the infirmary, having been told that there was a dwarf that had been injured but was refusing to be seen by an elf. The first thing she thought was how muscular his back was, before shaking her head to remove inappropriate thoughts so that she could be focused on treating his injuries.
Harry had followed her in and as she started treating the dwarf, made a list of the potions that Hermione rattled off that would need to be grabbed. He knows it's the paranoia from the war that caused him and Hermione to ward all important items and supplies so that they could not be tampered with. The only ones who could enter the room with the already made potions, and ingredients were himself, Hermione, and lord Elrond. As he left the room to grab the potions he noticed a dwarf in the hallway leaning against the wall with a very concerned expression marring what is truly an attractive face.
The dwarf tried to stop him from going further up the hallway, asking about his uncle and if he was going to be alright. Harry told the dwarf that he needed to go get a few things that the healer needed so that his uncle would be just fine and that it would only take a few minutes, and that he would be right back.
When he returned and passed over the needed potions, he asked Hermione if the dwarf in the hallway may come and see the patient. She didn't see how that may be a problem but to ask the dwarf himself. He said that was ok so he let the younger dwarf in.
“Uncle Thorin,” the younger asked. “Will they be able to heal you?”
Hermione paused in between administering potions, “He will be fine in a day or two. The medicine that I have given your uncle will accelerate the healing process and he will be up and moving before dinner. I still want him to take tomorrow easy which means no traveling or training. He could reopen the wounds again if he doesn't listen to my instructions.”
She handed Thorin the last potion. “Now this will help with the pain, if you need another please come and let me know.” looking at the younger man she said, “I will leave it up to you to make sure he listens, and send for me if he is being stubborn and won't ask for a pain potion.”
“I will make sure that he listens and behaves himself.”
‘Kili it is time to catch up with your brother and the others.” Thorin said as he replaced his shirt and jacket.
Harry turned to Hermione as the dwarves left the room. “It's time, do we have our traveling supplies ready?”
Hermione just nodded her head and started making lists of potions most likely needed for the journey and the ingredients that would need to be packed. She had a feeling that it would be sooner than later that they would need her medical knowledge and she wanted to be prepared for any possibility of injury. She would update her traveling supplies as well, and antivenom for anything she could think of, and with her knowledge of things that were venomous and poisonous it was quite the list. Knowing that they would need to pass through the greenwood, she made a potion that would help keep the forest from completely overtaking the dwarves' minds.
While she was busy getting everything together Harry decided to talk to Gandalf. He explained that he needed to speak with the dwarves. Gandalf told Harry where the dwarves were settled and left to go talk to Lord Elrond. When Harry got to the area the dwarves were in, he couldn't help but stop and stare at Kili who was having a friendly spar with his brother. Thorin having spotted him, came over breaking the spell that seeing Kili shirtless had over him.
“Is there anything that you or madam Granger need?” Thorin questioned.
“Hermione and I need to come with your company when you leave.” stated Harry.
“Why would that be master Potter?” Thorin asked suspiciously.
“If we do not come along not all of the company will survive, and no I'm not making a threat. Hermine and I harness magic and something is telling me that something catastrophic will happen. Something we can prevent.” Harry explained.
“Let me talk to my men and I will answer you in the morning.” Thorin stated.
“Of course. I will see you then.” Harry nodded his head and walked away.
He just hoped that the dwarves took his warning to heart and agreed to let them come along.
The next morning as promised Thorin came to talk to Harry. He just needed a demonstration of their abilities so Harry and Hermione led the dwarves to the training grounds. First they showed their fighting with weapons by sparring with a dwarf chosen by what type of weapon they specialized in. Hermione went against Fili, surprising the dwarves with her skill. Harry went against Thorin and it ended in a draw. Next was a show of magic. They showed how when using a shield charm it can block arrows. Hermione asked for a volunteer for a demonstration on warding. Dwalin stepped forward, and Hermione showed them the power of the wards she had created during the war to protect the camp site. When Dwalin disappeared from sight the other dwarves caused an uproar. It was only when he left the protections did they calm down.
They all agreed that having them join the company was a good idea especially after learning that they were skilled healers. That night and every night until they left Rivendell Hermione worked on creating more magical tents. It started out as one per family unit, and a medical tent. Though for some reason by the end she had created enough for one per dwarf and a few extra. Once she had completed the tents she worked on a few of the potions that would be left behind. As Rivendell didn't have much in the way of potions in storage in case of emergency.
The day that the dwarves left Hermione and Harry were waiting fully packed and having made their goodbyes.
