Tantrums

Hadrian was not sure what to make of the last few months of his life. He had been taken from a horrible household to a house that held his true parents who he had actually been kidnapped from as a baby. It was pleasant he supposed, he no longer had to worry about being hit for not doing chores or not doing as he was told. But he was not used to the attention that his Daddy, Papa and brother Draco were giving him. It also didn’t help that his brain was still adjusting to being five years younger so it means he was way more emotional than usual.

He enjoyed the hugs he received from them however he wished that he was as independent now than he was at eleven years old. He didn’t like the feeling in his chest that he got when he woke up and his parents were not in his sight, or the thought of being so far away from them in Hogwarts, it really was only about ten metres between the doors but for some reason that felt like miles away. He also didn’t understand why he couldn’t bear to be without his Daddy. His papa he could leave for about two hours before he started to feel uneasy, but with his Daddy he hated being apart from him.

Just like now, it was the first day of classes for his parents and brother, yet they hadn’t even made it to the great hall for breakfast, why? Hadrian was having a tantrum. Why was he having a tantrum? His Daddy hadn’t come into his bedroom to dress him in the morning like he usually did and his Papa dressed him instead and Severus had some last minute paper work to sort out but that wasn’t okay in Hadrian’s eyes. Hadrian was conflicted himself. He had tried to calm himself down but it just didn’t seem to be working, he could feel himself struggling to catch his breath which inevitably made him panic even more.

“Daddy.” He managed to gasp out before more tears fell from his eyes, by this point he was clawing at his throat, wishing it would open just a little bit more so he could breathe. He felt something be spelled into his stomach before he collapsed into one of his father’s arms, coughing.

“You’re okay baby, you’re okay,” Lucius whispered gently into his ear trying to soothe him and calm him down. Eventually, after many soothing words from Severus and Lucius, he was calmed down enough for them to make their way to the great hall for breakfast, thirty minutes behind schedule, leaving them with not that long to all get fed and suitable amounts of coffee into them before their classes began. Lucius had already told Severus that Hadrian would be staying with him that day during his classes so as to avoid another tantrum that would most definitely occur from their little one.

Unfortunately for Hadrian, who now didn’t want to speak to anyone and was content in hugging his daddy, Draco had spotted the flustered look on his father’s faces and saw a peak at the tear tracts running down his baby brothers face and in his concern had got up from his table to come and see if everything was okay. Draco made the mistake of trying to hug his brother, but Hadrian didn’t realise this and though he was trying to take him away from his daddy.

“No Draco! Get off me!” He yelled before grabbing onto Severus even tighter and shoving his face deeply into his neck, clinging like a monkey. Draco shot back startled before looking at his Father with a sorrowful look on his face.

“It’s okay Dragon,” Hadrian could hear his papa say as he and his daddy walked up towards the teachers table. “He’s not had a very good morning and has clung to your dad ever since, he probably thought you were trying to take him away from your dad. He will be fine later on I promise.”

Hadrian unfortunately didn’t hear Draco’s response but it must have been okay as he saw his brother hug his Papa before going to sit back at the Slytherin table. He had been turned on his daddy’s lap to face the table so he could eat, Severus hadn’t even attempted to put him on the chair between him and Lucius. Another tantrum nearly occurred at the table when Severus tried to make Hadrian eat his breakfast but eventually he just gave up and ate his own food, knowing he could get something for his youngest son later on in the day.

“I take it you didn’t have a good morning then Severus?” Quirrell spoke up from his right side.

“No Quirinus, I did not.” He glared at the man, who didn’t respond back knowing the potion master was in no way wanting a conversation. It was only half an hour later when Hadrian threw his next mini tantrum. Severus had tried to put him down in the little area he had made for Hadrian, but Hadrian had decided that cuddling with his daddy was what he wanted to do and nothing was going to change that.

“Hadrian please, its not safe for you to be in my arms whilst I am walking around the room.”

“No daddy, stay with you.” Hadrian countered back.

“Hadrian, please.” Severus begged.

“No Daddy.”

By this point the students were filing in to the classroom, trying to sneakily watch their feared potions master try to convince his six year old child, who was currently wrapped around him like a monkey, to get off him and into his little play area.

Another five minutes past before Severus realised his lesson was much more important and decided to try and compromise with his youngest.

“How about Hadrian, you can stay with me whilst I am sat at my desk but when I need to walk around you go into your area. You will always be able to see me and when I get back you will be able to come to me again. How about that?” He crossed his fingers mentally and hoped to god that Hadrian said yes.

To Hadrian, it still wasn’t a very good idea. But what Severus had said did make sense, he would still be able to see him around the room, he had swivelled his head around to make sure, almost making Severus snort in amusement as he watched his son figure out whether his deal was good or not.

“Yes Daddy, but I stay with you right now.” He nodded quickly, his little curls flying everywhere. This Severus could tolerate, now standing up to start his lesson. Luckily his first class was sixth years so he shouldn’t need to walk around too much as he could trust them just enough that they wouldn’t screw up so badly that he would need to patrol the classroom frequently.

He sat down at his table and began marking students summer homework, something that bored him immensely. However Hadrian was not bored, not bored at all. His eyes were taking in everything around the classroom, not really having the chance to when he first came into the room because of the mini tantrum he had thrown. Everyone worked diligently in silence for the first half of the lesson before it was broken by the sound of Hadrian’s voice. He had just spotted his daddy’s potion ingredients in little jars, all creepy looking and as children do he just had to ask one of the many random questions he had floating around his brain.

“Daddy, are those people?” He pointed over to the jars. The room filled with laughter that was immediately silenced by Severus’ reply.

“Yes, of students who don’t pay attention to their potions.”

“Daddy that’s mean! You can’t use people.” Hadrian looked at him shocked.

“I can if they have been bad Hadrian.” Severus joked and that was the end of the conversation or so Severus thought. As the next words Hadrian uttered were to his Papa who had come to look after him whilst he had a first year class.

“Papa.”

“Yes Hadrian.” Lucius replied.

“Daddy said if I am bad he will put me into those jars over there.” He then pointed to the jars in the corner of the room. Severus slapped a palm to his forehead and shook his head as his husband glared at him over the top of their little boys head promising words to be exchanged later.
