Chapter 2
“Casper could you pass me some of the sunflower seeds?” The witch called out to the room waiting for the slight scuffle of small feet.
Pouring out a few into her hand she discarded the left over petals and half heartedly chucking the rest into an over bubbling pot before flinging an misshapen metal lid onto the concoction, breathing a slight huff she begins making her way to get changed into her winter garments, a high collared dress with a coat lined with carnation embroidery, grabbing her basket on her way upstairs to begin filling it with tea leaves to be delivered. The door creaked slightly on the way out, a telltale sign its soon to be replaced, she begun making her way to the mandarin trees and begun picking a few waving her arm out towards the flower garden set off rain as she set off on the dirt path towards the bigger city.
Cars filled streets which were once meadows blossoming with jasmines and other flowers, she made her way through the city as the noises of everything rung out like splinters in her head finally coming across a door, the open sign worn from the sun but still welcoming she let herself in the noise dulling as she shut the door behind her.
“Hello ma’am welcome to Rain n’ shine café! I’m Rayne, how may I be of service?” the words stung into her body like a thousand pins and needles pressing into her old wounds that have long since healed.
A sigh of annoyance is what brings her back to her body, pain fading into a lingering feeling at the back of her head. “Ah Madam I apologise this is the recruit I was talking about Rayne Sirius, she’s a bit optimistic I apologise if she spooked you, here let me help you with the basket and we can talk out the back.”
The sound of worn sneakers comes closer as the witch laughs softly at the behavior slightly reminiscing while gazing at the child whose hair puffs out cascading down her back even in the form of a ponytail. Hands grab at her basket and she lets Diantha take it “Well Ms Visha I see the child Sirius here does need some work lets go and talk shall we?” following Diantha towards the store room, Rayne about to yell in disagreement through out tinged red cheeks about being called a child gets cut off through a slammed door just huffs and cleans up the coffee machine.
Once the door is closed Diantha sighs in relief, placing down the witches basket on the office desk, notes are spread throughout it clearly by someone less organised then those who usually work at the café, and grabs out a mandarin beginning to peal and eat the sections exhausted mentally and physically. “Well, my dear Visha it seems the child is a rowdy one, care to speak to me of her progress or lack off?” As soon as the words leave her mouth the witch is assaulted with a colourful lot of swears even someone of her age would blush through their thick skin at, clearly the one working just outside is much more of a child then she once thought despite the power clinging to her form promising strength not unlike what the woman ranting in front of her has shown despite lack of such power.
With a sigh the witch opens the door, Diantha abandoned to eat mandarins in peace despite the tears of frustration welled up in her eyes. “Child! You’re under my watch for the next however long until your boss regains herself now follow my instructions this is especially important.”
Throughout the next few hours Rayne is bombarded with information and quizzed thoroughly till her throat is sore from replying, her hands bandaged from accidentally spilling boiling water and tea leaves caught in her fluffball of hair. Diantha joined them ten minutes in, instructing Rayne to continue towards the madams instructions only releasing her once the madam announces that she must leave to take care of something while mumbling about someone called Casper and breaking into her garden to play, how she knew despite never once picking up a device tugs at her head but she ignores it as something that must happen often when the lady is gone for too long. Yet the fact that her boss calls the lady ‘madam’ even though she appears younger than her boss still confuses her as she continues working.
