Harry/Draco
“I thought we we’re gonna run away together,” Harry wipes the tears off his face and turns his head to look at Draco.
“Draco looks wrecked, cheeks flushed and jaw clenched as though he could hold back the tears running down his cheeks through willpower alone.
“We were naive to think that would work. My parents would hunt me down to the end of the earth before they let me leave and I won’t put you through that.”
“But I want that, Draco. I want everything that comes with you.”
“You deserve someone better, Harry. Someone who can show the world how amazing you are and I can't be that person.”
“This isn’t fair. We love each other. I love you,” Harry looks into Draco's eyes resigned, knowing he can't change Draco’s mind but wishing with all he had that they could’ve gotten their happy ending.
“It’s the way the world works, my love.”
Draco leans forward and rests his forehead against Harrys, hand coming up and wiping away the tears.
Harry raises his hand and cups Draco’s cheek leaning and pressing their lips together. It’s a messy kiss, tears in the way and snot dripping down their noses. It’s a goodbye kiss, a see you later kiss, an I love you kiss. It’s everything and nothing all at once and Harry feels the last part of his heart shatter.
Harry pulls away and whispers, “This isn’t the end of our story.”
