The Halls of St Mungos

It wasn't long before she held her arm out to him again.
"Ready Mr Sallow?" He didn't reply. Acutely aware of how petty he was being. She blinked slowly before turning slightly to face her partner, who only raised his eyebrows and shrugged. "We'll see you later Tom."
"Cya soon sweetheart."
He took her arm, and once again they reappeared somewhere new.
The walls were duck egg blue, the floor coverd in old white tiles, stained with age. The all too familiar interior of st Mungos. Infront of the pair was a small desk. A man stood behind it. Freakishly tall, he loomed over even Sebastian. He wore a pair of golden specticals too far down his long crooked nose to be of any use as he flicked through pages of medical records gently humming to himself.
"Good afternoon." The girl called after him, causing him to look up from his work. He looked her up and down, taking note of her scarlet jacket and gold badge.
"Officer Fig, I was informed of your vist. And who may this be?"
"This is my partner Mr Sallow, he shall be coming in with me."
"I'm sorry Ma'am, I have specific orders that it should be you alone taking the interview."
"Well your orders must be miss informed. Hes coming with me."
"Officer I'm very sorry but I can't allow.."
"Listen to me carefully Mr..." She glanced down at the scuffed name badge pinned to his white robes."Harris. I am the highest ranking auror at the ministry, I have tea with the minister every Monday and Thursday afternoon, I am in frequent correspondence with the head of the department for magical health and welfare. I could have you removed for your post faster then you could beg me not too. Now what you're going to do is open that door for me and Mr Sallow and let us conduct this very important interview that will keep everyone you love safe. Does that make sense Mr Harris?"
Sebastian couldn't believe what he was hearing. He'd expect it from Ominis, flaunting his connections, but he did that out of spite. Here she was using it to get exactly what she wanted. Pathetic.
"Yes Ma'am, my apologies. Right this way." He lead them into another corridor. "It's just down here, third door to the left." He scurried away like a mouse.
The walked in silence. He allowed himself a glance at the woman. She had become something so different to what he rememberd.
"If you have something to say Sebastian please spit it out now before we enter. This is a government job, you have to at least pretend to be civil."
That caught him off guard, they'd barely spoken since last night. It seemed she was still angry, she wasn't doing as good a job of hiding it as she had been.
"You just threatened that man. Do you do that alot. Do you get pleasure dangling someone's life infront of them. Hmm" He did try to hide the hidden questions.
"You wanted to come with me, I got you in. If you've changed your mind Sebastian I can take you back to Thomas."
"That's not what I asked."
"You are part of a government investigation now Sebastian, if you have an issue with my operation I can take you back to azkaban, but neither of us need that do we?"
She was dismissing him. He hated it. When he didn't reply she continued walking.
The room in which he then found himself was much too simular to the room he had found himself 11 years prior. The same cream walls and dull wooden flooring, the same metal beds and paper thin sheet lining the wall. Images of Anne flushed his head as he continued to follow the auror towards one of the Seven occupied beds.
The women in the bed looked tired, large purple bags under her eyes. Her hair, which almost looked purple in some lights, was a beehive above her head. She had a balance wrapped around her forehead, covering one eye. He lips were pale and capped, and a large red cut linded her right cheek l, the black stitches highlighting its severity.
"Good afternoon Ms Parker, My name is Officer Fig, this is my partner Mr Sallow. I hear you have some information for us?" Her voice was soft, a far cry from the harsh tone she had taken up at midnight. It boiled his blood how quickly her demenor could change. Had she always had thus skill. It would explain how she quickly she went from kissing him to turning him in that night.
"Yes, I. I, I'm sorry." She was stammering, in her single visible eye, Sebastian could make out her confusion. He worried for a moment that the woman was not ready to talk.
"It's OK, take your time. If you would prefer I could go get us some tea and we can discuss this afterwards?" How could she be so soft. She had just threatened a man's career and now she was offering a girl tea. The woman nodded the best she could.
"OK. Mr Sallow will you stay here with Ms Parker, I'm going to find us something to drink." She shot him a look 'behave'. She left the room quickly and quietly.
A moment of silence passed between hum and the woman. He looked at her broken body lying in the bed. He thought of all she had lost, her entire life. And he sympathised with her.
"I'm sorry. About what happened too your home." She looked up at him. It seemed for a moment like she was going to cry.
"Nobody's said that. Thank you."
Then it was his turn to nearly cry. He knew how it felt, to feel like the world had been ripped away under your feet. He still felt like he was swimming in an empty void, since Anne was cursed. That one day changed his whole life. He'd never get to be the boy who graduated alongside his twin, with a smile. He would never be the boy who won top marks, who became an accomplished auror. He'd never be the boy who the girl loved. He understood how she was feeling.
"She's good you know, the best there is. She's going to solve this. They've done it a million times before. When we were in school she took down a rebellion. And one of the biggest criminal gangs in the country. We'll solve this." She smiled at him weakly. He hated the words spilling from his lips. Hated how he believed everyone. He hated everything the woman was, but she had never failed anything. She was possibly the only person who could solve this.
"Alright I've got tea, and biscuits." Speak of the devil and they shall appear. The girl walked, just as poised and perfect as ever, a tray of mugs floating magically next to her.
They sat and drank for a minute. Ms Parker looked between the two routinely as she shyly drank her tea. Not a word was spoken.
"The figure, the shadow man, he cursed poor Georgie, poor boy. He was so sweet, used to deliver my newspaper for some pocket money. Didn't deserve a moment of this. None of us did. There were a few characters on the street but none of them would've done this."
She spoke suddenly, although the hot liquid had dislodged whatever it was that had stopped her sharing. But she looked at Sebastian the entire time.
"If you don't mind me asking, what sort of characters?" A paper and quill had appeared besides her head, scribbling away.
"Well there was Mr Danoso, he was polish, used to be involved in dark art when he was younger, something about his family. He didn't hide it. Used to tell the kids about it. 'A cautionary tale' he called it. He ran a brothel out of the old pub. All sorta came in and out. In fact the day before the attack a man came in. Never seen him before in my life, didn't see him leave either. He was rather tall if i remember correctly, and had dark hair, almost like your's," she gestured to the auror. "If that's the man that attacked us then the Olde Knight Inn has got something to do with it."
Sebastian allowed himself a glance at the witch besides him. Her eyes were glowing, the same way the used to glow when they discovered another one of Isadora's Penssives- familiar.
"Thank you Ms Paker, this is incredibly valuable information. I'd there anything else you can remember about the night of the attack, perhaps anything to do with the magic the figure cast?" She was prodding to compare the witness reports, see if they matched. A violet 'bubble like' magic is not something that's often seen.
"It was an odd purpley-red colour, it almost moved like water, tiny pockets of water, and it was everywhere all at once. When they attacked poor Georgie it was like a beam of pinkish light. Unnatural, I've never seen magic like it." He glances over at the woman again, this time he notices a slight furrow of her brow, he doubts the poor witch in the metal bed would notice it, but he did. She was nervous or perhaps confused. Either way it wasn't good.
"OK Ms Paker, I think that is enough for now, though we may be in contact again. Once again this information has been invaluable to this case. We appreciate your time. I hope you have a swift recovery." She stands and bows slightly to the woman, he follows suit.
"Goodday Ms Parker, thank you again." He smiles at the woman. The woman who reminds him so much of himself. And follows the other woman out of the room.
She immediately turned on him.
"I appreciate you talking to her when I left, but you can't do that, it's ministry policy, a policy I'm already breaking even having you in an interview setting."
"She was about to cry!" He was livid. He had helped a woman who no one had bothered for. He had complimented her. He had done nothing wrong. And here she was once again, berating him.
"I know, and I'm glad you did. Buy I can only get away with so much Sebastian. The ministry doesn't trust you, especially not talking to people who had just been attacked by dark wizards. It's a liability."
"Of course it is. Let's leave." He didn't want to be here a moment longer. All he could think about was Anne in pain, being refused care over and over. He couldn't bare it. This time he held out his arm for her. And she took it, taking them both away from the hostile environment, back to the safety of her office at the ministry.
