Drunken blunders
Regulus opened his eyes and felt his head throb. His back was stiff and he realized he lay on a bathroom floor. More ominous still he found he was very much not alone. His head was on a muscly warm arm that hanged down on his chest. He himself lay on his back. He realized a light weight on the opposite side of his chest. Beautiful ginger hair covered her face but Regulus was sure it was Lily Evans. No one else had a scent like that. Evans smelled flowery somehow but not in a perfume sort of way. Perfumes always made his head spin and his stomach twist. She had her hand on Potters.
How on earth did I manage to get myself in this position?? He thought desperately. This was the polar opposite to what his mother meant when she said “show decorum”. Yeah there is so much decorum in laying on a bathroom floor, EXTREMELY close to two other people, hungover in a ripped up shirt he thought sarcastically.
Regulus had to come up with a plan how to get out of there and quick. If the other two woke up it would lead to some very awkward questions that he did not fancy answering. He could feel James heavy snoring and warm breath next to him. His face was perfectly beautiful even in sleep. Potter glasses were set askew, but it only magnified his perfection. His chest was bare, and Regulus wished he knew why he had no shirt on. It did nothing to help with his determination to leave. Instead, he found himself staring entranced at the firm lines of his abs and muscular chest. He sighed before he could stop himself.
Evans stirred slightly but did not wake up. He felt her soft chest against his ribs. A plan he reminded himself sternly. He could not forget himself staring at Potters messy hair, his warm skin, his buff upper body. He was shocked and discouraged to have to tell himself to not focus on Evans either. Don’t think about her soft chest rising and falling against your ribs, her wild ginger hair, the tip of her freckled nose poking out, he reminded himself.
Regulus closed his eyes hoping it would help and it did, slightly. How am I going to get out of here? he thought and focused. Potter seemed deeply asleep but not Evans. She stirred a bit quite often and mumbled her lips brushing his chest as she did. He tried hard not to shudder, afraid to wake them. Maybe if he gently turned Evans to Potter and then crawled under their tangled arms on his shoulder. It was a big risk.
He sighed heavily and repressed the nausea. Suddenly, he felt like he needed to puke. He fought it as best he could, but he accidently moved ever so slightly. Evans sat bolt upright. She was still holding Potters hand so that forced Regulus head to the side so that his nose was touching Potters. Potters’ eyes fluttered open and became wide when he saw Regulus less than an inch from him.
He too sat up quickly forgetting that Regulus was on his arm. Regulus felt even more sick than before as he was thrust forward. “Sorry” Potter said alarmed. “No worries” he mumbled back feeling thick. “What is going on?!” Evans squeaked all sleepiness forgotten as she saw Potter and himself. They all glanced at each other nervously. She looked a bit green around the gills and had dark bags under her eyes but she was still her annoyingly pretty. Potter did not show any signs of their crazy night. Was he to good for hangovers?
When no one answered she began again and looked slightly hysterical. “Don’t you remember anything?!” she whispered with a note of panic. “I think we had a bit too much fire whiskey and witches brew and mead and punch and gigglewater and elf made wine and that what was it called… vodka that’s it! that muggleborn brought it.” Potter considered staring dopily at Evans. He knew he was hung up on her, but it still hurt to see.
“I only recall glimpses” Regulus admitted. He did remember the marvelous kiss of course but he was not about to admit that any time soon. Evans sighed sounding relived. He did do remember glimpses of dancing and kissing her as well. “Well, lets just pretend this never happened” she basically begged and blushed matching her hair. She looked crestfallen even as she said it. Potter did not seem pleased either.
A part of Regulus, the logical one, wished to forget it ever happened. It would be a lot safer. But another part of him didn’t want to lose the previous night, he didn’t want to leave Potter and Evans.
“If that’s what you want” Potter said looking down and Regulus noticed he was actually blushing. It was faint but it was there. He didn’t think Potter could blush. “No” she sighed heavily. He was surprised at how openly they expressed their emotions, surely people didn’t do that? It was oddly nice to not have to work extra hard to detect tone and read facial expressions, they just said what you needed to know.
They both looked at him. Evans emerald, green eyes looked at him a question in the slight frown between her eyebrows. Potter tilted his head slightly and gave him a puppy eye stare. “No” was all he managed. It was a bit hard to breathe with the weight of those two pairs of beautiful eyes staring at him.
“Then what should we do?” Potter asked looking back and forth between the other two. Evans stood up. “Not forget about it” she smirked even as she blushed and left. Potter looked dumbstruck. Regulus and Potter stood up. Potter seemed about to hug him but then thought better of it.
“Well bye then, Potter” Regulus made as if to leave but Potter grabbed his arm. Their eyes met and Regulus never wanted Potter to let go. His hazel eyes flecked with a warm chocolatey brown stared at him intensely. He didn’t even look that way at Evans. This was not dopey adoration it was a wild flame. His eyes were hungry and Regulus felt his heart beat in his chest. He was very aware of Potters soft inviting lips. Remain in control, show decorum he repeated to himself. “What glimpses do you remember from last night?” Potter asked biting his lip and moving closer. “Bits and pieces” he smiled but his voice was slightly shaky. Potter didn’t seem to notice, however. “Is it okey if I try something?” Potter asked smiling. His eyes were dark and hungry. Regulus brain felt like mush having him so close. He couldn’t speak so he just nodded. Potter was a bit taller than Regulus so he immediately bended down and kissed him on the mouth.
Potters hand was no longer on his arm but instead on the back of his neck. Regulus own arm flew to Potters black, messy, perfect hair. Potter kissed like no one else not that he had kissed anyone else beside from Evans and that was not on the mouth. Potter was so warm against Regulus who was always freezing. He was like an open fire for a man dying of cold. A fresh breeze of wind after a day of being locked inside. He was the sunshine after the rain. Potter kissed confidently and firmly. His lips were even softer than they looked. Regulus brain was even fuzzier than before. He could not worry if he was doing it right or not. It was as if every nerve in his brain had broken making him unable to think. There had been a short circuit in his brain. The electricity was simply overflowing. Potter broke away with a soft smile on his shiny lips.
“Thanks” Regulus mumbled smiling up at him. Potter smiled wider but it was not mean. It was not the judgmental leer he surely would have gotten from anyone else, it was kind. “Thanks to you to” Potter smiled. He took a slow step back but looked like he didn’t really want to leave or stop. “I will see you around Regulus” he breathed. Regulus stomach flew somersaults when Potter spoke his name. “Take care, Potter” He whispered. Potter smiled even wider. “Call me James” he said before going out of the door. Evans had already done the unlocking charm.
He looked at himself in the mirror and all warmth drained from him now that Potter, no James was no longer there. Fancying a dude was bad enough but then sleeping next to one and snogging?! Toujours pure he heard his mother’s voice screeching in his head. He remembered Sirius on the floor and the wound on his chest seemed to ache, it was still not healed but, better. He buried his face in his hands and wished he could sink beneath the floor and never reappear.
