Chapter 7 - Contracts
“I’ve come for the girl”, she says matter-of-factly, my mother walks backwards towards me, almost shielding me from the ladies eyes.
“I thought you had forgotten she says”, looking straight through my mother, “so I thought I ought to come and get her myself”.
“Has she not told you my dear?”, the witch directs her question at me, “you’re going to marry my son, your mother agreed to a contract many years ago when you became ill.
My son needs a little slave girl since the house elf has died, who knew they were so weak and feeble, one cast of Crucio and it was on the floor, it never regained consciousness again”.
My mother sobs into her hands, she holds me in a protective embrace.
“I WONT LET YOU TAKE HER, YOU WILL NOT TURN HER INTO A SLAVE, SHE IS MY DAUGHTER”. My mum screams between sharp breaths, crying so hard her whole body shakes.
The witch reaches into her pocket and pulls out a wand, she moves her hand and points at my mother.
“Do you really think you can stop me? My family has been practising dark magic since before your great grandparents were born, my strength is unmatched , I will take her and I will do as I please”.
With a flick of her wrist a bright flash of green streaks towards my mother, I jump to her side to knock her out of the way, but it’s too late she’s been struck by the bolt.
She lays on the floor writhing in pain
The witch laughs and waved her wand again.
“the contract has been broken”, she states, and with a puff of smoke, my mother disintegrates into nothing more than a pile of ash.
I fall to the floor, arms around the grey smoking mound that used to be my mother.
Hearing the commotion, the neighbours on both sides of our house congregate around the front door and as the witch turns around she is faced with several wands pointed directly at her, she grabs me by the arm and dashes towards the open window, just as she pulls out her wand to apparate, She is hit by multiple flashes of magic.
“LEVIOSO!”, one man shouts, hitting the witch in the chest and propelling her upwards, she floated for a second before another spell is cast.
“GLACIUS!” Another persons voice rings out and she is frozen suspended in the air, one of the older women of the group Majorie grabs me by the arm and pulls me out of the house, she runs quickly towards a cart full of vegetables and helps me climb aboard.
“You need to go, keep yourself covered and stay in the cart, they will be waiting and will look after you”.
I don’t look back as the enchanted cart slowly starts making its way to wherever we are heading.
