First day at St Edmunds

Remus opened his eyes and felt his body ach. Sirius saw the in Remus eyes blinding light above him. His body hurt all over and he felt his arm sitting in the wrong place. The memory of his mother leaving flooded Remus mind. He wondered where he was. The smell of the silver made him puke. He wasn’t sure if he would have puked anyway. Your dad died because of you and your mother didn’t want a monster kid a voice in Remus head shouted. Sirius wanted instinctively to reassure the young Remus. All my fault he thought over and over. He was trying hard not to hyperventilate but was failing miserably. Remus began rocking back and forth ignoring the pain. He felt panicked but the sadness had not quite caught up without him. Remus was still in the small cage. His clothes lay in pieces on the floor. A stern bird like woman appeared with a grey sweatshirt and a pair of sweatpants. She looked disgusted at Remus panicked state. The woman opened the silver cage door. She put in the clothes, and he dressed feeling every pop of his joints. When he had dressed, he crawled out and stood still shaking. “Pull yourself together boy” the woman demanded slapping him hard on the side of the head. Remus flinched against the pain. “Where am I?” he croaked. He needed to know. “You are at St Edmunds” she responded the words clipped. Remus tilted his head, eyebrows knitted together. The woman clucked her tongue, exasperated. “St Edmunds is an all-boys children’s home specialized in problem cases.” She explained every word clipped. “Who are you?” Remus asked warily, the spot on his head still hurt quite a lot. Scary woman, nothing like mom Remus thought. “I am the matron” she responded.

The matron led him to a small room. There were two beds and two dressers but nothing else. The walls were a shabby grey and there was a small window with boards and a lock over it. Remus noticed the matrons silver keys around her neck at that moment. Another boy was sitting in the room. He had a shaved head so Remus could not make out his hair color. The boy had dark green eyes, a black eye and a defiant air about him. He looked about 9 to Remus but he had not met many other children so could not be sure. The boy was frowning and looking Remus up and down before turning his head away. I want to go home Remus thought desperately. The memory ended there.
