You make me feel safe James
Everything was kind of messed up since - no one really know since when but Regulus is now standing behind James's door rethinking everything, should he knock? What if James sleeps already? What if he doesn't wanna see him now? It could be the case, basically he is still one of them but not really but his arm-
He knocked on the door and he hears soft quiet 'come in' so he does.
"Hey" Regulus whispers and James looks at him for good ten seconds until he manages to say something.
"Hi" He says eventually and Regulus gives him light smile.
"What is it Reg ?" James asks when there is silence for too long again.
"I just- could I maybe, could I sleep here with you - I- I didn't sleep alone since I -since I woke up in that cave and I don't know how to- how to fall asleep, I mean I tried but I just I can't close my eyes and-"
"Reg-" James whispered but Regulus ignored him with fear that he'll say no so he keeps convincing him.
"I could transform to a cat again if you don't want me like person me to sleep here I could sleep just here right next to your bed or in the bed with you if you don't mind I mean I'm really small as a cat, well you know you won't even know I'm here and - and " Regulus kept rambling and James looks at him the whole time trying to catch all the things he's saying but he's too fast.
"Hey Regulus-" James is trying to stop him, he's trying to say that it's okay that he can sleep here because he misses him and because he can't sleep too without him even as the stupid cat.
"No, no listen I promise I'll disappear the first thing in the morning - I just I need you , not like in the inappropriate way since I know you don't like me that -that way but just I don't know , you make me feel safe James and I can't fall asleep otherwise but I get it if you don't want me to be here I'll go -if you - if you want me to " Regulus finally stops and James took the opportunity to speak immediately.
"YES" James says almost violently because he thought that Regulus will continue talking.
"What ?" Regulus looks at him little confused at first like he himself didn't believe his ears.
"Yes I'm saying yes- stay " James says softly now.
"really ?"
"Yeah I missed you Reg so fucking much"
"Okay, okay give me a second" Regulus smiles and it's about to transform into the cat but James stop him.
"You can stay like that - if you're comfortable with it" James says and Regulus laughs a bit.
"Oh okay I- being person is very much more comfortable you know" James laughs softly and Regulus lies into James's bed. He's only lying on the edge not sure if he is allowed to go closer.
"You should probably move a little closer- if you don't want to fall you know" James says and Regulus goes a little bit closer.
And just like that they were just there, looking at the ceiling not talking.
"Are you tired ?" Regulus asks eventually.
"Not really" James whispers.
"Can we talk then ?"
"About what ?" James asks and he's kinda worried because every time they talked since he's back to living it was about the prophesy and Voldemort, the spy and the war.
"Not like that I just- I missed you- I missed talking to you just about something unimportant like I don't know Quidditch or stars or you know something not absolutely terrible" Regulus says and James looks at him sarcastically offended.
"You did not just called Quidditch unimportant Regulus Arcturus Black" James says and Regulus starts laughing, like genuinely laughing straight from his hearth. And James just watches him with amusement.
"Well I said stars are unimportant too so we're good" Reg whispers smiling.
And just like that they talked and talked about nonsenses until they both were so exhausted.
"Can I - just like-just hold you ?" James asks and Regulus is silent for a good few seconds.
"You don't have to say yes Reg- that's why I'm asking, we can just go to sleep like that it's okay" James assures him but Regulus shakes his head.
"No it's not that it's just- I don't want to go between you and Lily, whatever is it you're dealing with now, I came here because I genuinely wouldn't fall asleep alone. I had no intensions"
"Oh that- we kind of broke up I guess, we both agreed we're better friends - well and parents. She'll be moving with Mary as soon as it'll be safe for her and Harry"
"Oh I didn't know- I'm sorry" Regulus whispered. "So yes"
James looks at him confused for a second.
"Yes you can hold me James- I want you to hold me " he added and James nodded and hugged Regulus with his arms gently giving him space to back off if he wanted too but he just curled up closer to James's chest and they fall asleep
