Chapter 9

Remus used to find the constant fighting with Sirius annoying before last week but at the moment he would give anything to go back to how they used to be, constantly fighting was better than the awkward silence that seemed to enter the room whenever the two of them were together.

Marlene hadn’t been much help either, after her inaccurate observation that she apparently felt the need to share with the rest of the room, Marlen continued to make crude, clear gestures that not only made Remus blush more this week than he had in his entire life but also made the distance and silent between himself and Sirius stronger.

That's why Remus is heading over to Sirius, while he is alone so that they can get this prank into action. He has the potion in hand and a very clear schedule for the next 24 hours.

He’s hoping that after they get this prank done the wall of silence that's between them at the moment will fall and they can go back to being friends again, bickering and all.

“Hey Sirius.” Upon being called Sirius looked up from his trunk that he had been furiously searching through for the last ten minutes.

“What's up Remus?”It was hard work to ignore the very clear tension that stood between them but if he wanted his friend back then he clearly had to get past this first.

“You ready?,” he lifted the potion to show Sirius what he was referring to, seeing it Sirius’ eye immediately lit up.

“Born ready”

Remus smiled before grabbing two cups that he had placed on his bed, close by and divided the potion that they had between them.

“So the plan is,” he said reaching for a small scissors that he had on his bed also,” we take this in 15 minutes at exactly eight so that we’ll be able to tell when the 24 hours is up”

“Perfect”

“You have full control of my body until then,” he continued holding up the scissors,” all we need now is a small piece of hair from both of us”

Sirius, who had been nodding along to everything Remus said, gave him a look of absolute shock.

“You never said my hair was involved” Sirius said, stroking his hair as if to comfort it.

He gave Sirius an exasperated look, “we need the hair to do the potion, it's not that bad, look.” With that he raised the scissors to his head and cut off two short strands from his hair, dropping them into the cup,on the bedside table.

“No”
“Sirius, it's the only way it will work,” he said slowly inching his way towards the stunned boy in front of him.”You can close your eyes and I’ll do it for you if that's what you’d like?”

Sirius didn’t answer but closed his eyes and nodded, which Remus took as a yes. He quickly cut a strand of Sirius’ hair and dropped it into the cup in his hand.

“All done”

Sirius opened his eyes and immediately looked into the mirror that he had on his table, upon seeing that he was clearly not bald, Sirius picked up the cup in front of him.

“Cheers”, he said before, he and Sirius knocked back the two potions.

“Why are you so short?” Remus asked as they made their way down the stairs from the dorm room.

It was strange at first when he turned into Sirius, his clothes became much baggier and he instantly shrank a good five inches. Sirius in return had grown quite a substantial amount and almost straight away hit his head on the bed hanging while jumping down off his bed.

After changing into newer, better fitting clothes and checking that Sirius wasn’t concussed, they decided to head downstairs to try out the potion in front of the other gryffindors.

“Why are you so freakishly tall?” Sirius, now Remus retorted, ducking his head slightly as they walked through the doorway to avoid hitting his head for the second time that evening.

He walked over to a seat in the common room, shaking his head. Sirius followed close behind, sitting down next to him.

“Hey lads!”, a voice said from the other side of the room, when Remus turned around he could see James and Peter walking towards them.

“Act natural,” Sirius leaned down to whisper to Remus. He rolled his eyes and turned back to face the fire as James and Peter took a seat opposite of them.

“What's up lads?” James asked half-mindedly, while reaching into his bag. “Talking about anything' interesting”

“I was just saying that I should shave my head” Remus piped, making all heads turn to him.

Sirius who was sitting beside him turned his head so fast, Remus is surprised it doesn't snap off, James also looked at him, eyes wide with fear.

“Are you alright Sirius?” James asked leaning in closer, Peter following with a matching look of shock on his face.

“That is not what we were talking about” Sirius croaked. Looking up to see Sirius’ reaction he’s met with his own face looking down at him, it almost makes him feel bad for the joke. Almost.

“Yeah”, he says turning back to James “that wasn’t what we were talking about at all, nothing comes between me and my hair.”

From beside him Sirius clearly relaxes, as does Peter but James is still looking at him inquisitively. He shrugs in response and James leans back to join Peter on the coach.
