Chapter 7
If Sirius and Remus have anything between them it is a wall of sexual tension that is so thick that it makes James feel like the lenses of his glasses are small. From where James watching them he is quite tempted to try and stab that wall with his butter knife.
The two of them have been weird all morning, Sirius for one got up earlier than he ever has to get to the bathroom before even James could and when he did come out he immediately went down to the common room, where he waited until the others were ready before heading down to breakfast. Remus on the other hand had been the exact opposite, getting up late and being extremely weary all morning.
“What's up with you two?” James said, breaking the silence that seemed to be stretching on for hours.
The two boys looked up at him almost in sync. They looked at each other before quickly turning back to James. Peter was beside James, eating away at his piece of toast but put it down to give the pair across the way a good look to check what was up as well.
“Yeah” said Peter, tilting his head to the side. “Sirius hasn’t said anything annoying all morning”
Sirius scoffed before saying “Fuck off Pete”
“It’s true”
“Fuck off “ he said before turning back to his breakfast.
It was silent again until Marlene came over and plonked down next to James. He’s always loved Marlene, all of the marauders have so it confuses him when both Remus and Sirius tense up when she sits down.
“Hello boys” she says cheerfully, going for a sausage off of James’ plate. Remus and Sirius trying to avoid eye contact is enough to distract James from Marlene's thievery.
“Hey Marlene” he said before turning to the other two again “Seriously, what's up with you two?”
“Yeah, what is up with you two?” Marlene said and James could tell without even looking at her that she was grinning from ear to ear.
“James, just drop it” Remus said in an exasperated voice.
“Mate if there's something wrong you can tell me, I won’t judge” he felt the need to add in.
“Nothings wrong,” Sirius muttered.
James looked over to his left, where Peter and Marlene were sitting. Peter had a worried look on his face and Marlene was still sporting the grin from earlier on. ”Marlene do you know what's up with them” he asked.
“You know Prongs, Marlene is quite friendly with Slytherins too” Sirius says before Marlene can answer.
He knows who Sirius is talking about. Even though Marlene has never directly told him anything, anyone with a pair of working eyes, even if they were as bad as his, could see that she was dramatically head over heels for Dorcas. Regulus had pointed out that they were unusually close as well.
“You told Sirius” Marlene hissed at James “You’re a brave man Potter”
Sirius has never turned his head faster than he did at that moment to pointedly glare at James and say “you told her before me!”
And well shit, if it wasn’t bad enough that Sirius was in a mood about whatever happened between him and Remus, now he has to try and avoid any and all questions about who his mysterious lover is.
He had told Marlene before Remus found out and she has been the one person to find out so far that hadn’t called him an idiot when he told them that he was dating Sirius’ younger brother. She had actually been really kind about it. Remus and Peter on the other hand had told him that he definitely had a death wish and that it was one of the stupidest things he has ever done.
Marlene, clearly realising her mistake was quickly trying to fix it. “He hasn't told me either, he just told me about the tie incident”
“Then why would telling me make him brave?”
“Cause’ we all know he’s shagging Snape”
The two start giggling away to themselves as he desperately tries to convince them to stop saying that he shagged Snape which gets him a few weird looks from other people that are sitting around them.
“Right” he says after he gets fed up with the shagging Snape jokes. He honestly doesn’t know where they get them from seeing as Sirius is the only one out of the five of them that does not know who he is going out with. “I’m going back to the dorms to collect my transfiguration stuff before class”
“I’ll join you” Peter says as he finishes his breakfast and gathers up his things to join James
