Double date

“Where did Harry say we were going out for dinner, again?” Hermione flipped through her planner searching in vain for further details on their double date as Draco put the finishing touches on his Windsor.

“The Golden Graphorn, that new restaurant near Gringotts. How do I look?” He struck a pose in his dark navy suit, a new addition to his growing Muggle wardrobe. He wouldn’t admit it, but Hermione could swear their fashions were growing on him. The three-piece suit fit him to perfection, as was expected given the personal tailoring, and the pop of color from his cerulean tie drew her eyes from his fit figure up to his sharp features and artfully tousled locks.

“You know you look a dream.”

He preened at the affirmation, strutting up to her and running the pads of his fingers lightly across her bare shoulder.

“I’ve got to match my stunning wife, do I not? It wouldn’t do for the new Mrs. Malfoy to outdress her husband, am I right?”

“That’s Mrs. Granger-Malfoy–“

“–details, details. We both know you’re the prettiest between us two and if we don’t leave right now I’ll prove my adoration to you across this desk.”

“Draco!”

“Hermione!” He followed his mockery of a gasp with a step into her frame, pushing Hermione up against the edge of mahogany roll top. Fingers slid down to grip her waist as he slowly leaned in just for a taste…

With a giggle, she twisted out of his grasp and over to the Floo. “You, sir, are incorrigible, and I refuse to make Harry wait again. The fact that he actually made reservations to introduce us to his date means this is serious!” She winked before yanking him over and tossing them both through.

“The Golden Graphorn!”

She spotted Harry’s mop of hair the moment they stepped out of the gate and rushed over to hug him. Even though they saw each other regularly for weekday lunches and game nights, this was the first time since Ginny that he shared any romantic interest in someone new.

“Oh, did you arrive separately?” Hermione didn’t see anyone behind him other than a man who looked vaguely familiar but she couldn’t place.

“Fucking Salazar, seriously, Nott? Harry Potter?” Draco clapped a hand on the stranger’s shoulder as Hermione looked on in confusion. The men all grinned at each other as understanding slowly dawned on her.

“Hermione, meet Theo Nott. Theo, Hermione Granger-Malfoy.” Harry ran a hand through his hair, a tell-tale sign of his nerves. It was this action that jolted Hermione out of her gaping and revealed just how much this mattered to her best friend. She stepped up into Theo’s space and wrapped him into the signature Hermione Granger hug. The expression of shocked gratitude on his face as she pulled away made it all worth it.

“You, Theo Nott, have been on my shit list since you missed our wedding, depriving me of the chance to meet one of Draco’s best friends. However, meeting you now as Harry’s boyfriend? 100 points to Slytherin and an open invitation to our home.”
