Cafe Workers/ Matchmakers 💞
Shuichi's POV
Fairly recently, I got a job at a cafe. Even for only just getting hired, I'm already pretty good at my job! Good enough to be a trainer at least. A cute new boy starts today. I saw him at his interview, I was also told that day that I would be his assigned trainer. If I remember correctly I think I name is Kokichi Ouma. That means I have to try my best to do my job while also trying not to act too awkward around a stranger, let alone a cute stranger.
It was around the time he was supposed to come in but he wasn't here yet. Granted he's not late... yet that is. He doesn't seem like the type of person to want a job, like a free spirit who doesn't want to be tied down.
Soon after I was lost in thought I felt a small tap on my shoulder.
"Hello! You're Shuichi Saihara, right?" A small purple boy asked with big bright eyes.
"Uh... yes! Yes I am! Are you Kokichi Ouma?"
"Yep!" The boy smiled brightly, "I'm excited to learn!"
He was cute, his whole smiling thing he just did only amplified it all. The night went fairly well. We had a closing shift that day so I was able to have a little time with him after we were done dealing with customers.
"Here, in case you have any questions." I handed Kokichi a tiny paper with my number on it.
"Oh sweet thanks! I'll see you tomorrow!" Kokichi said as he skipped away through the front doors.
I stood there thinking about him for a little bit but was interrupted by my coworkers Kaito and Rantaro
"Oooo Shuichi has a crushhhh." Kaito jumped on my back, almost knocking me down.
"Gah, no I don't!"
"Dude, it's kinda obvious." Rantaro put his hand on my shoulder.
"It's ok bro! I'll be your wingman!" Kaito yelled fairly loudly, luckily we were the only three left in the store.
"Oh god no, no way you're messing with this at all." I pleaded with him, "please just stay out of it."
I noticed Rantaro and Kaito look at each other. I felt my phone leave my back pocket.
"I don't have his number." I looked at them as if I had somehow beat them.
"Rantaro is the shift manager Shuichi, he can get anything he wants." Kaito looked at me and smiled.
"Hey!" I reached out for the phone but Kaito grabbed it and held it up too high for me to reach, "this isn't fair! I told you to stay out of it!"
"But you'll never do anything if we don't help." Rantaro said walking to the back of the restaurant to go find his phone numbers. I ran after him, maybe I could get him to stop. He started shifting through some papers until we heard Kaito yell from the front, "Rantaro! Guess who just texted Shuichiiiii!"
"Oh no." I felt my stomach fill up with butterflies as I started to worry about what was going to happen next.
Rantaro rushed to get to Kaito who was already typing.
"What'd he say?" Rantaro asked.
"He said 'hey Shuichi' with a smiley face 'it's Kokichi Ouma'" Kaito read off the text.
"Awe cute." Rantaro replied.
"Cute?! He barely said anything!" I yelled trying my best to be able to read what Kaito was typing.
"I bet you though it was cute." Rantaro said smiling at me. I could feel my face getting red.
"I'm gonna say something back" Kaito started, "'hey Kokichi!' Hey Shuichi are you free tomorrow?"
"I think so why- KAITO NO!" I stopped myself realizing why Kaito wanted to know.
"Ooo Kaito yes, good idea." Rantaro chimed in.
"I hate you both so much." I crossed my arms.
"You love us!" Rantaro said, patting my back.
"He responded!" Kaito jumped.
"Oh god." I mumbled to myself.
"Oh oh what's he say?" Rantaro spoke over me.
"He saidddd," Kaito rushed to open the text, "'am I free? I mean yeah I don't do much, why do you ask?'"
"Will you guys stop it! Don't you think you've gone far enough! He probably thinks I'm weird!" I yelled louder than I normally would. They both just looked at me for awhile in silence. The silence was broken by another sound of an incoming text.
"What'd he say now?" I looked to Kaito.
"'Awe does Shuichi like me? It's only been a day you know?'" Kaito looked a little sad.
"If you two ruined this for me-" the sound of yet another text interrupted me.
Kaito looked to the phone and started to read the new text, "'if that is what you're going for then sure! Let's go on a date Shumai. Can I call you that?'" Kaito slowly turned his frown into a smile as he read through the text.
"Wha- he said yes?!" I looked at the two of them with surprise.
"He said yes!" Rantaro yelled.
"Heck yeah he said yes!" Kaito cheered, "who wouldn't want to date my sidekick!"
"Well answer him!" I looked to Kaito who still had my phone in his hand.
"No you! I've done my job." Kaito tossed me the phone and walked out of the store. "Bye guys!"
"Just tell him sure and that you can bring him home after your guys shift tomorrow." Rantaro shrugged.
I ended up texting Kokichi back with what Rantaro told me to say and I went gone happy. I was a little nervous to go to my shift however, I didn't talk to him much last night, that was all Kaito. Despite my worries I knew I had to go to work so I got ready and headed out. When I got there Kokichi was already there waiting.
"Hello Shuichi!" Kokichi jumped up.
"H- hi Kokichi." I stuttered.
"Awe is someone nervous, don't worry I can tell it wasn't you texting me." Kokichi smiled widely, "you don't seem that forward with your feelings, but based on how nervous you are right now I have a feeling you really do like me!" Kokichi threw his hands in the air, proud of his deduction.
"That's impressive." I figured there's no point in hiding it if he's set in his ways.
"Why thank you Shumai. Even if I know it wasn't you, are we still on for later?"
"You still want to?"
"Well yeah! If you like me then I'm willing to entertain you." Kokichi walked a bit closer to me.
"Entertain me?"
"You think too much. Just go with the flow a little more Shuichi." Kokichi stood on his tippy toes and kissed my cheek, "well we have work to do, come on!" Kokichi grabbed my hand and pulled me away.
From the corner of my eye as I was being dragged away I saw Rantaro and Kaito smile and wave at me from across the room.
