Chapter V. 4336.172to 4346.364 CRC

Arya had to be carried out of the Temple, too exhausted by the small use of godly powers she’d attempted to move. She wasn’t the only one – Nyla was cradling an unconscious Deaknal in her arms, and Scourge had a protesting Xenloth in his own arms, as his leg wouldn’t let him run fast enough to escape the building that was falling apart around them.
It took months for Deaknal to heal from his ordeal, and the man knew himself well enough to know he’d never be the same in a fight.
Xenloth had lost his leg – thought his attempt at healing himself had saved his knee and upper-leg.

Arya herself was bed-bound for weeks, Nyla finding herself rather horrified by the damages the half-Mirialan’s body had taken – a mortal body wasn’t made to use godly powers, and it seemed it was especially truth in this current life, perhaps because of how cut off the goddess currently was from the Immortal Realms.
Still, despite how frustrating it was to be so weakened, especially when doing what she had would have been as easy as breathing in her previous life, Arya was quietly hopeful – she knew herself well enough to realize that her limits were ever so slowly growing.
In time, she realized– she’d be able to take care of Vitiate in a more decisive way.

Overall – nothing had really changed with the death of the Emperor – the Dark Council had gained more power, but everyday life was still the same in the Empire. Not that any among them had really expected things to change – Vitiate had created his empire in a way that meant it could keep going on even with him at the helm, strangely enough.
Regular people didn’t even know the man was gone – thought all the Siths knew, having felt a distinct shift in balance when the malevolent presence of the Emperor had disappeared from Dromund Kaas.
Which meant that the usual infighting for power between them was even worse than usual, sure enough – but not much more.

The war was still going on.
Life was still going on.
Except – it wasn’t quite the case.

Something had changed, something so discreet that not even the Intelligence Ministry had caught on. Something Arkous had been notified about by chance.
Revan had escaped the Emperor’s prisons when they’d killed the man.
And apparently, the centuries-old Force user felt that a war was coming, one that would make the conflict between the Republic and the Empire look like child’s play. Revan wanted to prepare the galaxy against this by taking control of both factions, and uniting them in one gigantic war machine.

Decades ago, Arkous had to admit, he may well have become one of the loyal fanatics that were forming around Revan.
The Revanites had existed for centuries, all sharing the belief that Revan had been in the right in believing that both Light and Dark Sides had to be used side by side – hidden in the shadows, they’d slowly built a network sprawling all around both the Empire and the Republic.
Arkous himself had been recruited decades ago, and had easily taken to their beliefs.

But he hadn’t stopped to the Revanites beliefs, instead digging further, spurred on by the feeling of otherness he’d always found within himself – and when he'd stumbled on Arya, the young goddess had clearly proved to him even more, several times over, that there was more to the Force than merely Light and Dark, Jedi and Siths.
Even the Revanites dogma had started to feel constraining, the organization preaching about the return of Revan like that of a messiah. Arkous wasn’t one to wait for anyone to save him, he made his own path.
But now, apparently, the Revanites had remembered about him, and his political stances were mild enough for a member of the Dark Council that they believed he still ascribed to their ideals.
Which is how he’d learned about Revan’s return.

Since he’d been given the perfect opening – this time it would be the pureblood Sith himself who would be playing spy, and keeping an eye on the Revanites plans.
Three years went by quickly, Arkous and the whole UnfetteredMooka’s crew growing steadily more worried as the Revanites plans started to take form. They’d quickly enrolled Ketan Seva, then Kira and Scourge, in their quest to thwart the fanatics, but their network was large enough that all they managed was to slow them down.
They’d found new allies along the way, Lana Beniko, an advisor he’d recruited when becoming a member of the Dark Council, but also Theron Shan, a spy from the Republic Strategic Information Service, who was also the son of the current Grand Master of the Jedi Council, Satele Shan.
It hadn’t been easy, but between all of them, they’d managed to force Revan to show his hand before he was ready.

¤.¤.¤

Realizing that attacks had been planned on Tython and Korriban by the Empire and the Republic with suspiciously similar timing, they managed to mitigate the damages on each side by informing people of the incoming attacks, barely avoiding getting caught on the Revanites radar along the way.
Following a lead to Manaan, Arya had uncovered a laboratory where the former Sith Lord had commissioned a cyborg army, rescuing along the way a rather strange pair of smugglers – a Wookie with the head of a protocol droid strapped to his torso, both thirsting for revenge against the Revanites who’d hired them before trying to get rid of them to ensure their silence.

It was on Rakata Prime that Arkous had to finally drop his cover, managing to prevent a large-scale conflict between a Republic and Empire’s armada, and forcing Revan to reveal his presence to both. The two fleets had decided to cooperate against the man and his army, pursuing him toward Yavin IV, where a camp was established under the leadership of Satele Shan on the Republic’s side and Darth Marr on the Empire’s one.
There – they realized what the man’s plan was – he’d recognized, like Arya and her team already knew, that the Emperor wasn’t really dead, and fearing the man’s power, had thus elaborated a plan to help him regain his body to better kill him, not realizing it wouldn’t work any better now than it had the first time.

Upon coming face to face with Revan, Arya had immediately understood that something was deeply wrong with him – the man’s psyche was fractured, and his soul had already partially left his body, leaving only behind the darkest emotions, while the lighter ones were hovering not too far as Force ghost.
After a harrowing fight, the two halves of Revan’s soul had been reunited, the Force user finally giving up on his mad plan – too late, as Vitiate had taken advantage of the chaos on Yavin IV, gathering enough strength to leave the planet and undoing much of the work Arya had done in the Dark Temple.
While the alliance was officially over after that, having accomplished their initial objective of defeating Revan and his forces, the decision was easily reached to keep in touch discreetly, Arya’s position as both a Privateer for the Republic and a Cipher in the Empire making her the natural point of contact between the two, as all had easily explanations as to why they were communicating together.

The UnfetteredMooka had gone hunting, and it took them over two months before finding the Emperor’s trail on Ziost, an old Sith world that had been the heart of their Empire, once upon a time. Now, it was home to several hyper-industrialized cities, and otherwise a cold, barren tundra.
Arya wavered as she set foot on the planet, feeling something deeply disturbing – on Voss, Sel-Makor had kept the godling spirit of the planet suppressed while spreading his own influence.
Here on Ziost, things were far worst, as Vitiate had forcefully possessed the planet’s spirit.

It had weakened him enough that he wouldn’t be leaving the planet that easily, as it took considerable energy to wrench his soul from a place to sent it traveling around – but it didn’t really matter, not when Ziost had been an old Sith world, which meant it didn’t fight against him.
On Ziost – Vitiate was nearly an omnipotent figure, able to possess nearly everyone, making them fight against each other, sowing chaos around…
And feeding his power with each death.

Having gained some knowledge from the entity he’d taken over, Vitiate had also finally realized that Arya wasn’t just a regular mortal, and was quite curious about her, sending hordes of possessed fighters against them.
It was Theron Shan who discovered that an electrical shock could undo the possession – at least temporarily, making Arya try her hand at ForceLightning for the first time. Theron and Lana had made a double-take at that, as she hadn’t had to break out her more flashy abilities against Revan, which meant neither had realized yet that she was a Force user.

But right now wasn’t the time to hide anything, especially given that she could feel that Vitiate’s plan wasn’t merely to regain strength little by little, by sowing madness around the planet.
No – the Emperor’s plan was far more ambitious.
And Arya wasn’t about to let him destroy a whole planet under her eyes without doing all she could to stop it.

Even worse – Vitiate had sown enough chaos that the Republic forces were approaching like bees attracted to honey, wanting to use the unrest within the Empire to take the advantage.
Should they come near enough to the planet – they would only be more names on the list of casualties.
Theron was doing everything he could to stop the Republic from acting rashly, but Chancellor Saresh wasn’t someone who liked to listen to any opinion but her own. It was at times like those that Arya was glad she hadn’t become a Jedi, as they were powerless to moderate the woman.

A plan was put together, to try to gather all the possessed people in one place to free them from Vitiate by catching them in an electrical-field – just strong enough to temporarily knock them out, but not substantially harm them.
The planet was already starting to evacuate, as there were strange instabilities – numerous ground-quakes had occurred over the past few days, long forgotten volcanoes were starting to wake up…
All of those, Arya feared, merely warnings signs about what was yet to come.

¤.¤.¤

“Why are you fighting me when you should stand by my side?”
Arya eyed the beautiful woman Vitiate was possessing, hearing her rage against possession within her own mind. Strong-willed people could resist the basic possession the Emperor used – but for the Jedi Master, Vitiate had gone further, possession her like he did his Voices, and she was still self-aware somewhere inside her head, an unwilling witness to the Emperor’s madness.
“Just because you’re finally able to glimpse about my true nature doesn’t make me the same as you.” Arya answered coldly, “I don’t covet power for power, I don’t condone senseless destruction, and I loathe people who are incapable of empathizing with mortals like you are.” a sneer, “Our powers aren’t made to rule as overlords, but to guide.”

“Bah! People are stupid! They would be killing each other, waging war and destroying planets even without my intervention!”
“Some would be.” Arya agreed, “But that would be their choice.” she added, all the while mentally urging her crew to speed up the evacuation as long as the man was focused on her
An ugly look settled on the possessed Jedi.
“If you’re not with me…” sickly red eyes glowered dangerously, “Then I’ll make use of your powers myself!”

“You can certainly try.” Arya taunted
After all – Vitiate didn’t realize the difference in power between the two of them, and while fighting effectively against him would probably bring her current life to an end, it would also free her from the restraints of her mortal body.
The Sith Emperor, no matter how dangerous he was against Arya Lunika – wasn’t ready to face Shadow herself.

This time, Arya felt her senses stretch as only a daiyoukai’s could – caught a glimpse of the nine tails now weaving in her back, rather surprised to notice they’d taken on a dark forest green tint. She didn’t waste any more time listing the changes, instead rushing toward the other god, KageShin in hand.
Vitiate’s eyes widened, and he immediately dodged, clearly remembering the effect the blade had on him during their previous confrontation.

Soon the fight was on – and if Vitiate wasn’t quite as fearsome a warrior as he’d been on Dromund Kaas, probably because he was using a body he wasn’t used to, he was still dangerous enough that it wasn’t an easy fight, even with the boost of her PastLifeAura, which she knew wouldn’t be lasting more than a few minutes.
More dangerous even, the fact that she could feel Vitiate’s powers stretching all around the planet.

He hadn’t been ready for his ritual – but in his greed for her powers, he was acting faster than expected, and already the ground under their feet was crumbling, and the two fighters were dodging and weaving around pieces of the collapsing plaza.
It was infuriating – all around them, Arya could feel Vitiate starting to absorb the very life of the planet, and throwing a good amount of it against her just as quickly.
Arya knew she was barely holding on to her mortal body, straining as she did all she could to slow the process, yet not really able to what with how limited her affinity for Nature was.

Of course, her Nature affinity wasn’t the only one she had to fight against the destruction Vitiate was wreaking, and it was as a Wild Goddess that she fought back, stealing some of the power the countless deaths around them were generating, and feeding it back to the planet.
Vitiate’s fury was rising, mind-dizzying in a way only a god tied to War could manage – but he wasn’t letting himself used by his anger, instead staying clear-minded enough that he was realizing that things weren’t going his way quite as much as he had expected.

There was a shift in tactics as the man forgo-ed trying to take her over, instead starting to gather the power to himself.
One large burst of power, and Arya managed to notice what he was doing an instant before it happened.
In an instant, Vitiate had dropped out of the body he was possessing, wrenching his soul out of the planet in a move that made the ground shook even strongly than before as the whole planet was revolting against him.

Arya could feel death spreading all around, and it took all that she had to prevent as much destruction as possible, choosing to save what she could rather than pursue the Sith Emperor.
She dragged the Jedi toward her with a ForcePull, the woman crying as she whispered in a haunted tone about all the atrocities she’d witnessed her body performing. Cradling the broken woman against her, she split her focus between preventing the planet from being consumed by Vitiate– and saving both herself, and the Master Jedi.

The upheaval seemed to last an eternity – it only went on for a few minutes.
By the end of it, Arya was drained, fighting to keep her hold on her consciousness.
Ziost had been destroyed – but it hadn’t been completely drained of the Force like Nathema was, thought the planet’s presence in the Force had been drastically weakened.
The ground was still shaking, though much less than it had at the height of the upheaval, and it would probably last for weeks and months as the planet rebelled against the transgression it had suffered.
It would take centuries – but Ziost would heal.

¤.¤.¤

It had been the Jedi Master – Shesa Surro, she eventually introduced herself – who kept Arya awake through the next few hours, sufficiently in tune with the Force to realize that the half-Mirialan couldn’t afford to lose consciousness in her state, and sharing her own life-force with her through Force healing despite how diminished she was herself.
Both knew enough about both piloting, and the state of the planet they were on, to realized that it would take days – maybe even weeks – before anyone could send a shuttle back toward the surface to rescue them.
Arya was feeling rather optimistic.

After all, beyond the familiar presence of her crew not too far in space – she could also feel a very familiar presence quickly growing closer.
And Arkous – wasn’t about to let a planetary disaster keep him away from the young woman who’d accepted his courtship three years ago.
It took nine hours for the man to reach Ziost, which wasn’t that far away from Dromund Kaas – and to dare dart through the turbulent atmosphere still roiling with electrical and Force storms.
The Ember didn’t even land, instead hovering above the unstable ground while the Sith Force-pulled the two stranded women aboard.

Once on the Ember, Arya had finally allowed herself to faint – she wouldn’t wake for several months. By the time she woke up, the new year and her birthday had come and gone, and the Galactic War between the Empire and the Republic had come to a stand-still as a new enemy had appeared from Wild Space, rolling over both forces.
Revan had been right – the galaxy hadn't been ready for the Eternal Empire.
Arya wasn’t too surprised when she was contacted by the renewed alliance between Siths and Jedi, led once more by Darth Marr and Grand Master Satele Shan – Shesa Surro had gone to Tython to be healed from her ordeal, and there had been no reason for her to hide the heroics that had saved her.

While it wasn’t really needed, it was rather amusing to witness Arkous’ protectiveness, the man having kept both the Siths and Jedi at bay while she was recovering.
It had been, paradoxically, easier to give a satisfying explanation to the Siths, who only knew of her use of Lightning and other Force abilities during her fight against the possessed Master Surro, but hadn’t witnessed the more reality defying events that followed.
Arkous transmitted to them the files from her years spent on Korriban, and given that she’d since been consistently working for him or his apprentice, they merely chalked her up as a hidden apprentice.

Some more records of the studies she’d done on old Force sects, and of her training sessions with Arkous – somehow, she wasn’t surprised he’d recorded those – and they’d concluded that the man had successfully trained one more Sith than originally thought.
She’d been officially granted the status of a Sith sorceress while she was in a coma – something which, of course, had caused much hilarity from Xenloth once her crew heard about it.

When it came to the Jedi, things were more complicated – Surro had been possessed by Vitiate after all, and still remembered all he’d done with her body. Which meant she also remembered Arya admitting to not being a mortal, and even the way she’d prevented the Sith Emperor from completely destroying Ziost.
They knew enough to realize that whatever title the Empire had granted her, she was no Sith.

They just didn’t know just what she was – and thatworried some of them.
Arkous, who was rather naturally weary of the age-old enemies of his specie, had been rather leery of letting any of them near Arya, especially given how clearly weakened she still was, months after waking up from her healing coma.
“I can’t believe you’ve convinced me to do something so stupid, nuya Jen’Nwit.”
Arya rolled her eyes at the Sith, who was going through the familiar motions of docking his starship while complaining. The grumbling wasn’t enough to hide the hint of curiosity gleaming in his eyes at the planet lying just beyond the space-station they’d been directed to.

A small, lush planet, that shone like a star in the Force.
Tython, home-world of the Jedi, where she’d somehow managed to convince Arkous to bring her. Arya herself wasn’t any less curious than the Sith, as already she could feel a tug – something, or rather someone, calling her toward the planet.
“How quaint.” the pureblood couldn’t help but muse as the shuttle they’d been directed to landed, “For the home world of the Jedi to be so… balanced.”
“Why is it strange?” a familiar voice asked – the Grand Master herself had come to greet and escort them, and sounded genuinely curious, “Jedi philosophy aims to strive toward balance.”
“Jedi are Light side users.” Arya corrected, “And light isn’t balance.”

Satele clearly hadn’t expected the answer, and her eyes took a considering gleam, “Welcome to Tython. I dare say this should be an interesting visit.”
“Interesting indeed,” a male voice interjected, “It’s not everyday we welcome one of our lost children back.”
Arya eyed the newcomer, rather surprised by his statement – after all, while the Jedi now knew her as both a Force user and an Imperial agent, they had no other name for her than the one from her cover as captain of the UnfetteredMooka….
And there was nothing tying Dasha Ellan to the Jedi.

Clearly, Satele hadn’t expected the comment either “Master Tavasya Oman,” she greeted, “I didn’t know you were back from your latest excavation site.”
“I must admit I found myself curious to meet the young woman who’d caused such an upheaval among the old and stuffy masters of the Council.” the tall, blue-skinned Togruta admitted shamelessly, making Arya and Arkous laugh
Given how she was rolling her eyes but didn’t seem surprised, the man’s comment wasn’t anything new to the Grand Master.
The man stepped toward Arya and Arkous – and Arya could feel nothing but happiness as he bowed toward her in greeting, eyes warm, “You look just like your mother.”

Arya’s eyes widened at the affirmation – and both Arkous and Satele were looking just as surprised. Tavasya ended up taking Satele’s place, guiding them on a tour of the temple – and probably showing them far more about it than any other Jedi would have felt comfortable doing with a member of the Dark Council around – explaining along the way how he’d been Sayah’s Jedi Master, and had then worked for years with the young Miraluka consular, witnessing along the way his first meeting with Leelai Lunika, then how they’d fallen in love and eventually wedded.

Tavasya Oman – was a rather eccentric consular Jedi, very open-minded, and who’d quickly decided that since Arya was his former padawan’s daughter, he was her honorary grandfather – and Arya had no problem giving him the position given how small her own familial circle was. She didn’t mind sharing details of her life with him – the UnfetteredMooka was well-known enough that there was no point in hiding their importance to her, and Xenloth’s own cover as a mercenary had been broken in front of the Jedi ever since their fight against Revan.
It was rather easy to see the influence the Togruta had on Arya’s father – as they shared the same thirst for knowledge, open-mind and endless curiosity. Which meant, amusingly enough, that he got along surprisingly well with Arkous.

¤.¤.¤

Satele had caught up with them around midday, inviting them for a private meal – and a chat to answer the many questions the Jedi had about Arya.
Shesa Surro had been invited, the woman still not completely over her ordeal, yet looking and feeling far better than she had the last time they’d seen each other. Tavasya Oman had also managed to get invited simply by dint of being around.
“Master Surro’s account of what she witnessed when possessed by Vitiate has raised numerous questions.” Satele explained “According to her, you’ve saved Ziost from a terrible fate…” a sigh, “But by doing so, you’ve demonstrated some impressive powers. Some would even say worryingly so.”

“And so they are afraid.” Arkous answered coldly
“Worried.” Satele corrected, “The idea of someone affiliated to the Empire able to change the face of a world in a matter of minutes…” she let her sentence hang there
“They don’t like the idea of someone so powerful not acting under their purview.” Tavasya was the one to complete, eyes rolling, “Not even realizing that there’s nothing they can do about it.”
“Indeed.” Satele agreed unexpectedly, “If you’re really that powerful, containing you would be all but impossible, Vitiate has demonstrated as such just recently.” a shrug, “But despite your affiliation to the Empire, you’ve been nothing if not an ally to the Jedi, not to mention apparently being the child of two of us.”

“So, what do you want?”
“I’m curious.” Satele admitted, in a way rather surprising for the rather severe woman, “And I’m pretty sure that simply speaking with me will reassure most of the Council enough that they won’t kick a fuss each time your name is mentioned.”
Arya could feel Arkous by her side relax at the rather honest answer – able to feel just how well how truthful the woman was as she was.
“Ask away.” Arya agreed
“What are you?”
“Someone who transcended the limits of mortal life.” a smile, “Or in simpler words… A goddess.”

Arkous glanced sharply toward her, suddenly putting things together. He was the one to ask, ”You mean…”
“Death, Chaos, War…” a smile, “But also Life, Order, Peace… All of them are deities presiding over an aspect of existence.” she confirmed, “Each with their duties, but all of them working together to keep balance and ensure the continued existence of all the worlds under their purview in the Mortal Realms.”
“But you’re here among us.” Surro said, “And contrarily to Vitiate, you’re not playing overlord, or sowing destruction…” a small hesitation, “And you still feel so… diminished by what you did to save Ziost!”

“Because gods aren’t meant to live among mortals. So putting my soul back in a mortal body is difficult, and using my powers while incarnated even moreso.” she explained
“So why do it, then?” Satele wondered
“Most of the time, my role is to help the Chosen Ones of different worlds walk through their destiny.” Arya explained
“And this time?”
A smile, “This time I’m just looking for my first mother.”

This, of course, led to more questions, that Arya didn’t really mind answering – the lunch was eaten cold, and the discussion went on for hours, the half-Mirialan talking about the different kinds of gods, and the ways they could or couldn’t interact with worlds and people, the holy servants that were blessed with their powers, and so on. The three Jedi – and even the Sith – had all they thought they knew about the world up-ended in a few minutes, so Arya did what she could to reassure them, pointing out among other things how most gods limited their interference with mortals, but also the fact that even the Force was a manifestation of a powerful goddess.

Having hours to talk had given them the time to get over the idea of gods existing – and reconcile it with what they knew. The fact was that neither Jedi nor Siths believed in gods, but both had heard about enough strange Force entities to accept their existence.
“Gods, uh?” Arkous mused a few hours later, as the two of them were finally alone in the suite they’d been given for their stay.
Arya rolled her eyes at the predictably smug comment, making the pureblood Sith laugh and drag her toward him with a use of the Force any Jedi would have qualified as frivolous. Arya laughed and didn’t resist.

While she’d accepted his declaration of intent a few years ago, neither had been in a hurry to push things any further – both realized that Arkous, with his instincts as a pureblood Sith, wouldn’t be able to pretend that they were anything but a couple once they took the leap and went through the wedding, and truth be told, neither would be Arya, who across her lives, had now become much more accustomed to the strong instincts of a daiyoukai than the tamer ones of humans.
With the ongoing war and the work each was doing – it hadn’t been the right time for a wedding, both had tacitly agreed. But with the events of Ziost, things had changed – the pureblood Sith had felt the near loss of Arya, and it had put emphasis once more on just how little he was ready to lose the young woman.

The primal fear had been made only worse with how weakened Arya had been after her exploit – and the goddess couldn’t find it in herself to disagree. She remembered all too well her dread while they were trying to break Renato’s curse back in her first reincarnation, or his own when he’d learn how little time left to live she had in their following life, and how he’d fought to craft a ritual to let her share his very life-spawn.
The cat-like golden eyes shone with warmth – and not a word more was said on the matter of godhood, the two instead spending their time curled around each other, nose deep in some old records Arya had been gifted with on Voss.

¤.¤.¤

They hadn’t seen Satele the next morning, but Tavasya had met up with them, taking them further away around the planet – toward the old ruins he was currently working in, looking for traces about the Je’daii of old who’d eventually founded the Jedi.
It was in the ruins that Arkous and Tavasya finally felt the call she’d been hearing ever since she stepped foot on the planet. The three of them followed the call, toward a large waterfall, then beyond it – where there was a tunnel illuminated by softly glowing Kyber crystals, delving into the depths of the planet.
Arya wasn’t really surprised to feel that they were stepping away from the Mortal Realm, and toward a Dream World, with each of their steps. Arkous’ head was tilted in curiosity, clearly feeling something but not able to put words to it like her – so she explained what was going on softly, both the Sith and the Jedi listening intently.

And finally, they arrived – in a large cave, with a small lake in the middle, a multitude of crystals illuminating the place. There were three beings waiting for them.
“Welcome, Shadow, War, Jedi.”
Arkous had to struggle not to show a reaction at the greeting, quite surprised to have been somewhat recognized too by the entities that he could tell were different – just like him, or Arya.
“Tython, Ashla, Bogan.” Arya greeted, the only one among them not looking out of her depth in the presence of the three entities

“You have come a long way.” the middle entity – Tython, they guessed, as he was the one feeling balanced in the Force – commented genially, “And your presence has already started to make waves across the galaxy.”
“The death of Sel-Makor.” Bogan, the spirit of one of the two moons of the planet, and clearly Dark Sided in the Force, intoned
“The healing of Ossus.” Ashla, his Light Side counterpart, went on
“Saving Ziost.” completed Tython, “You stepped up to your duty in a place forsaken by the older gods.”

This earned her a sharp glance from both Arkous and Tavasya, as while she’d answered a lot of questions the day before, she hadn’t gone into the existence of both Purgatory and Abyss.
“The Purgatory and the Abyss are dangerous places, and not ones we make use of lightly.” she agreed, “But we can’t afford to condemn countless realms before of one’s fall from balance.”
“Indeed.” Tython agreed with a gracious nod, “And we were lucky enough that Mana herself followed us in exile.” a thin smile, “And now, with your incarnation, we may well manage to find balance again, and drag us-selves out of this place.”
“I hope so, with or without my help.” Arya agreed, “It may not be why I came, but it doesn’t mean I don’t intend to help.”
“And we’ll all help, in any way we can.” Ashla and Bogan affirmed, voices echoing peculiarly

While Tavasya and Arkous hadn’t been as immediately impacted as Arya by their meeting with the godly triad, each of them had still been affected – and it was immediately apparent to Satele, who’d been waiting for them just by the waterfall’s banks.
“You’ve met them?” she asked without surprise, making it clear that she knew precisely just whom they had just met
“It was… an enlightening encounter.” Tavasya agreed, clearly still not quite all there, his Force presence just as clearly altered by the meeting as that of Arkous or Arya

“I suspected it would happen when you started to explain that you were what we knew as Force Entities.” the Grand Master admitted, “A lot of people, Jedi included, have trouble coping with the notion of gods… no matter the name we give them.” she admitted with a sigh
“Which is why you don’t advert their existence.” the consular concluded
“Precisely.” Satele agreed, “The idea of powerful entities that can have a profound impact on our world but are wise enough not to meddle with the free-will of regular people can disturb some people enough that they leave the Light, or even fall to the Dark.” she admitted with a grim sigh, “So the knowledge was restrained to only the Grand Master and the Council Members, and can be shared with other people only if a majority of the Council votes for it.”

“And they don’t want to share it with people like me, whom they find already too grey for their taste.” the consular easily guessed
Satele’s silence was answer enough.
Still – the fact that the godly Triad had communicated with them, and the Social bonus granted by Tython’s blessing meant that much of the misgiving of the Jedi Council had been all but forgotten by the time Arya and Arkous left Tython, a few days later, headed directly toward the Wild Space, where the Republic and Empire would attempt a joint assault, led by Satele Shan and Darth Marr, against the Infinite Empire.

It took them a couple of weeks to reach the point where the fleets were to rendezvous – weeks the couple took advantage of to let their relation progress further than it had before, and during which Arya took advantage of the newly unlocked PartySystem to create the WildMookaCrew, add Arkous to it and tell him more about her usual ChaosGame and the current, more restricted MoonGame. It really didn’t surprise her that the pureblood Sith found the idea of making a game out of one’s life quite entertaining.
Then, they dropped out of hyper space in the outer reaches of the galaxy, landing on the Imperial flagship, where the UnfetteredMooka and its crew plus Deaknal were already waiting for them. The team had a few moments to greet each other, Arya quickly inviting them to the Wild Mooka’s Crew and succinctly explaining about her newly unlocked powers, before they were all dragged to a general staff meeting with Siths, Jedi, and officers from the Republic and Empire’s armies alike.

One thing was immediately apparent – something all Force users, whatever their side, had felt just as well as her.
Vitiate was here.
And clearly – he’d been waiting for them.
The allied forces didn’t have the opportunity to launch their attack – the Eternal Empire acted first.

Within instants, the fleet feel into chaos under the assault of countless skytroopers droid breaching through numerous probes. It took the enemy barely a few minutes to tear apart both the Republic and Empire’s forces.
Somehow, in the ambient chaos, Arya found herself fighting side by side with Darth Marr, now rather thankful not to have to pretend not to be a Force user, and making liberal use both of her abilities with a lightsaber and more esoteric Force abilities.
She felt some of her worries alleviated when her father confirmed to her that the UnfetteredMooka’s crew was back aboard their spaceship and escaping the ruins of the Imperial destroyer they’d been aboard of.

Arkous, naturally, was headed toward her, rather than his Ember.
Eventually, they met up in the engine room, not too long after learning the bridge had been breached and taken over by the Eternal Empire’s forces.
The hyperdrive was burned out, and most of the secondary controls out of order. Realizing there was nothing more to do, the trio sent power to all life-pods – then once they’d all been ejected, turned the ship around.
Full-speed forward – toward the Eternal fleet.

Arya dragged them all through the shadows with some trouble – landing them just in front of Arkous’ ship. The half-Mirialan urged the pureblood Sith aboard, as he was the most familiar with his ship.
“Start the take-off procedure! I’ll hold the hangar bay with Marr.”
She didn’t need her Force sense nor Soul Art to feel his reluctance – but right now, he easily realized, it was the best solution.

He paused a second on the ship’s ladder, catching the liquid flowing from one of the multiple scratches and wounds all of them had sustained, smearing his blood against Arya’s lips before pressing a heated kiss to her lips. The green-skinned woman didn’t waste a moment, echoing his gesture with her own before urging him toward the starship’s cockpit.
“I guess congratulations are in orders.” Marr mused, clearly both amused and bemused – the gesture had been impossible to mistake for anything but the pureblood Sith’s wedding ritual for anyone who’d studied just a bit of their culture, after all
A ritual that was nearly never shared with outsiders, given how insular the specie tended to be.

¤.¤.¤

After that, things went very quickly.
The Ember started to take off just as the hangar was collapsing. Arya urged her familiars toward the starship – while Marr and her did the same. But in the unstable environment, using shadows was far too dangerous. And reinforcement were incoming.
She saw Marr fell a second before a blow came her way. Realizing where things were headed, she urged Arkous forward, feeling him rage as he realized that staying would only contribute to one more prisoner for the Force-using elite troupes of the Eternal Empire and their dangerous leader, prince Arcann.

As she fainted, Arya noted that the cyborg, beyond his mechanical arm, and half-mask, felt quite familiar – this, she realized, was the galaxy’s take on demigods, the prince having the kind of connection to the Force few could boast about.
In other words – Arcann could only be Vitiate’s child.
And a real, biological child this time – not the hand-picked young Force users he’d imbued with his powers all around the Sith Empire.

When she woke up, Arya could feel they had moved quite a bit.
Marr was nearby, while her familiars, which she’d urged to stay with Arkous, felt very distant. More importantly, Vitiate was nearby. Thankfully, the power-hungry god still felt somewhat diminished from his previous encounters with Arya.
Soon, Arya, Marr and Arcann were in front of an old, albeit distinguished human man – his face unknown bur his soul and presence in the Force impossible to mistake for anyone else.
“His glorious majesty, Immortal Master and Protector of Zakuul,” the prince introduced as he bowed in front of his father, “Emperor Valkorion.”

“A new name, a new face…” Darth Marr jeered, “These aren’t enough to hide from us.”
“I have nothing to hide.” the man contradicted lightly, “There aren’t any limits to my powers, and you’ve already witnessed it.” a smile, “But you don’t have to stand against me… You could just kneel.” he encouraged them, unlocking Marr’s restraints with a small tug on the Force
“I’m done kneeling in front of you.” Marr denying heatedly

“You would rather die than admit my superiority?”
“You are the one who fears death, Vitiate, Valkorion, whatever name you’re currently using.” the Sith scoffed, “I will not kneel!”
With that, he was calling a weapon from one of the nearby guards – and making his last stand against the Emperor. Arya struggled against her own restraints, managing to break them with a burst of power that was more godly energy than Force. With a thought, she called her lightsaber from her Inventory. Between the two of them, Marr and the half-Mirialan quickly dealt with the knights of Zakuul, Vitiate – or rather Valkorion – merely witnessed the fight calmly.
Then, a new person irrupted in the gigantic throne room – a hard-looking woman, exuding fury and even stronger in the Force than the prince that could only be her brother.

Brother and sister ignited their lightsaber, clearly ready to protect their power. Valkorion raised his voice.
“Enough. You’ve already refused me once, little goddess,” the former Sith Emperor mentioned, “I offer you another chance. Just like me, you leave your mark in the galaxy with your every act.” he raised his arms, “Look around you. Zakuul is poised to become the greatest civilization in the history of the galaxy. The Eternal Throne commands the largest fleet ever built. With its power, I’ll have the power to reshape the galaxy to the image that I chose.”
He’d gotten up, stalking toward the four Force users still menacing each other with their weapons.

“You could join me in this quest, choose the way we shape the galaxy. I will share it all with you… If you but kneel.”
“Share?” Arya laughed, “You don’t share anything, Depur. You enslave and devour. And I will never join you.”
The emperor sighed.
“So be it.”
With that, he nodded toward his children – and in a fraction of a second, the fight was on again.

The demigoddess rushed toward Darth Marr, brimming with violence. In an instant, she’d slashed through the Sith’s weapon-arm, his torso – and ended his life.
Arya struggled vainly to anchor the man to his body – but he hadn’t lied when he told Valkorion he didn’t fear death. With some regret, she let her hold on his soul slip – and to her surprise, she saw a Force ghost appear, bowing his head in thanks in front of her before disappearing.
Dead yet not gone, like only Force users could manage.

Arcann’s move was quite different.
The moment Darth Marr died, he turned around – and attacked his father.
“I should have seen it coming!” Valkorion laughed, parrying the man’s every attack without even needing to move, the Force shielding him, “First your brother, now your father?”
“Does my ambition really surprise you?”
“Ambition.” the elder man’s tone was bitingly mocking, “This is no ambition, merely jealousy. This is why you’ll fail, like always.”
Valkorion had seemingly forgotten something – Arcann wasn’t alone.

And while Arya wasn’t about to trust the general who’d lead such destructive attacks against both the Empire and the Republic – he still was the lesser threat.
His sister too had chosen her side – and clearly, it wasn’t her father’s.
“You dare!” this, apparently, the man hadn’t expected, if the fury in his voice was to be believed – but had been ready for, “Kneel before the Dragon of Zakuul!”
The woman let out a blood-curling scream of pain, terror, and anger – Arya felt the effects of brainwashing rear their ugly head – and Valkorion’s daughter fell on her knees, clearly incapacitated.

This only seemed to spur Arcann on more in his heated attacks– but more importantly, it distracted Valkorion enough that Arya could sneak on him enough to stick a blade through his back.
And the blade running him through wasn’t red, but a dusky metallic one.
There was a furious mimic on the emperor’s face – then his body fell to the ground, his voice echoing unnaturally around them as she felt his soul leave its current body, “So be it.”
This was different from when they’d killed his body as Vitiate, or when he’d left Master Surro’s own body on Ziost, Arya immediately realized, as the Force shook around them.
This, Arya realized, had been his current main body, his avatar – and killing it had unleashed a Force explosion so powerful it echoed all around the planet.
Arya, and Valkorion’s two children, were violently projected to the ground.

¤.¤.¤

Of course, the god wasn’t going to let things end just like that, and Arya felt the man rush at her, his soul battering against her mind’s shield as he attempted to possess her.
Arya cried out in pain, the kind of which she’d never felt – physical pain, she was quite used to – but it was the first time another god dared to fight against her mentally, and the pain was worse than when binding her soul to incarnate, more comparable to that of someone trying to tear her soul apart.
And while Valkorion wasn’t able to do anything against her soul, he was doing his best to either suppress her mind or throw it out of her body, tearing it apart along the way.

Arya was starting to strain – but step by step, she was pushing back Valkorion, trying not to think about the damages she was taking in the process, which she could ignore for now thanks to the newly unlocked Crucitorn, but she knew were worse than anything before.
There was one last Force and godly power explosion, and Valkorion disappeared, weakened enough that even holding to his ethereal form was too hard for him.
The pain rushed back – and Arya fell in soothing darkness.

She wasn’t awake to see Arcann and his sister regain consciousness, the two of them arguing about what to do about her, before the woman eventually stormed out of the room in fury, while her brother picked her up from the floor, bringing her to a healing ward.

She didn’t see either, the medical droids work on her battered body for days, while in the streets of the city, citizens of the Eternal Empire clamored for the blood of the stranger, the Outsider who’d dared to kill their beloved emperor– nor Arcann officially becoming the new emperor, and waging war even more ferociously against both the Empire and the Republic.
By then, she’d already been put in a cryo-chamber in the depth of the Imperial Treasure.

While the galaxy fell apart – Arya dreamed, her mind blessedly freed of most of the usual restrains she forced on her soul while in the Mortal Realm, though still suffering the after-effects of Valkorion’s assault.

¤.¤.¤

She wasn’t quite a Force ghost, Arya knew – though something similar. Similar enough that Arkous felt her presence each time her visions brought her to him and her familiar. It alleviated the man’s torment at having lost his spouse, and even soothed the constant pain he dealt with, from missing half of his soul – probably thanks to their powerful Force bond, that was strong enough to let them share some images and impressions despite the distance, Arya’s unconsciousness and the state of her psyche.
She saw Arkous the most, of course, but also Xenloth and Lyn’Me, Nyla and Deaknal, hunted – and hunting.
Looking for her, she realized.

From the few glances she caught, Arya quickly realized that the galaxy was in turmoil, and the WildMooka was looking for their missing member, letting, for once, their duty – to the Empire, to the Siths, to the Force – take a back-seat to their desperate quest for the missing member of her crew.
She saw Padfoot, Blanche and Kagetsu, staying with Arkous, and playing the hunting hounds for the crew.
Saw the WildMooka finding out just where she was – and realizing how complicated it would be to get out.

Then Theron and Lana, but also countless others joined them, one by one, little by little.
Somehow, while she was sleeping – Arya had become a rallying figure for those few who still dared to resist the Eternal Empire.

¤.¤.¤

Then, someone other than Arkous had tried to use their Force Bond to find their way to her mind - someone both powerful and old enough to manage it.
“What are you doing here?”
“I came to check if you were still sane. After all, our story is not over yet, and I have done all I can to preserve your life.”
He wasn’t quite truthful – nor quite lying.

In the shared-space between their mind, no lie could be told after all – as his appearance attested. Red skin and eyes, a circlet-crown and golden jewelry, and a traditional outfit that hadn’t been seen for centuries – this was Tenebrae, Vitiate and Valkorion’s true face.
Of course, Arya was skilled enough in double-talk that she could easily guess at what the other was truly implying – he’d been keeping her alive indeed, but hoping for her sanity to have failed, still aiming to take over her body.
“Taking my body over won’t give you control over my powers.” she told him calmly

She saw some surprised in his eyes – clearly, he’d already realized that lies couldn’t be told in this space between minds and realms.
“Too bad.” he sighed regretfully, before shrugging, “No matter, I’m more used to being male anyway. I still need you alive.”
“Do you?”
“You can’t deny we share a common foe.”
The pureblood Sith dragged both their spirits toward Zakuul, and the throne room where Arya had nearly died – and Valkorion had died, at least in body.

There was Arcann there, and his sister a few steps away from him, watching coldly as Darth Vowrawn and a Republic envoy bowed in front of the new emperor. Arya raised a surprise eyebrow as she noticed Tenebrae’s daughter’s eyes follow both of their silhouettes.
“Your daughter sees us.”
“Vaylin was always my favorite.”
“If you don’t hesitate to use brainwashing on your favorite, I don’t want to know how you treat those you hate.” the green-skinned woman mused idly

“I destroy them of course.” the former emperor answered matter-of-factually
“Of course.” she titled her head, seeing Arcann noticing Vaylin’s wavering attention, and his sister wave his questions away, “She doesn’t trust her brother.”
“Vaylin doesn’t trust anyone.”
Arya wasn’t really surprised – her own father had done some mental conditioning on her, and she’d clearly been aware of it, given her lack of surprise when the man had made use of it when she’d turned on him. Trusting anyone would have been difficult after being put through something like that.

“Together, they’ve all but destroyed the Empire and the Republic.” Tenebrae said, gesturing around the throne room, “The most powerful fleet in history, an army of guardians who know that the Force is more than Dark or Light…”
“They’re merely staying on the path you’d put them on.”
“They were never meant to rule.” Tenebrae contradicted, “Arcann is a good general, but not an emperor, and Vaylin is too bloodthirsty to be anything but a leashed mad tuk’ata. They abuse their power, and we must stop them… Before they lay waste to the whole galaxy.”

Arya raised an eyebrow.
“I don’t see how it’s different from what you intended to do.”
“When I was younger.” Tenebrae agreed readily, “But I’ve grown wiser with age, this is why I left the Sith Empire behind to create Zakuul. What use is power, if I have no subjects to rule over?”
“And you need me to fight your children?” Arya couldn’t help but muse, not bothering to hide the doubt in her voice
“Don’t underestimate their threat.” the pureblood Sith warned seriously, “We’ve weakened each other enough that it will take the both of us to take care of them, and undo the damage they’ve wrecked.”
He truly believed it, the half-Mirialan realized – and feeling Arcann and Vaylin’s power, she could see why, thought she had no intention of allying with him. It would be harder, sure enough – but no matter how dangerous they were, Arcann and Vaylin were still mortals contrarily to their father, so he was the one she had to take care of personally.

¤.¤.¤

While they were talking, she’d started to feel something through another Force Bond – something the former emperor may well be somewhat aware of, as he warned.
“I’ll find you once you’re ready to fight against my children. You’re about to be reborn.”
Pain washed over Arya’s mind, as she felt her soul violently return to her body – clearly, the medical droids had only done the bare minimum before she was put in stasis, and the unfreezing process wasn’t doing her any favor either.
“Steady, nuya Jen’Nwit.” a deep, familiar, voice warned, “I’ve a cure for you, but it’s not going to be painless.”
