chapter 9
Draco was taken to Loki's chambers and was asked to get some rest. They would summon him to talk about things at dinner. He really did not have it in him to wait but what can he do. He went directly to Loki's wardrobe and took a tunic and smelled it. He took the tunic with him to the bedroom to rest. The bed smelled like sandalwood and lotus. He felt like coming home after a long long trip. He bit back his tears and hoped that his mind would not conjure worse scenarios. What if something happened to him in the battle of Jotunheim? What if something happened when Thor returned to Asgard? Is it something related to Jane or Sigyn? Oh seven, he should've told Amora and cautioned her as well. He hopes Harry has an insight to bring Kaia, Hela and Amora when they come here. His thoughts were running hundred kilometers a minute and as usual he fell to the thoughts of what would he do if he lost Loki forever.
There was a knock on the door loud enough to wake the dead. He hopes that its just some servant. He is not presentable to see either Odin or Freyja. Luckily it was just a servant informing that Odin requests my presence in private family parlour for the dinner. He suppose he is hungry not just for food but answers also. He freshens up a bit and makes himself presentable. He decided to wear Loki's clothes which he had to fit him with his magic. Loki was so tall. He is not above playing with their emotions to get what he wants. He is also not above threatening them if needs be.
There's Einherjar waiting at the door to escort him to dinner but he knows the way. Loki had made me learn each and every corner of the palace in case of emergencies. He just have to put pictures to his words. He can't ask them to leave and if he showed up to the parlour without them Odin would surely be suspicious. I would have to reveal my cards slowly to the conniving bastard. So he allows them to escort him the dinner parlour. Thor and Freyja are already seated at the table waiting for the king no doubt. Draco knows Hela will come only at the request of Harry so he isn't holding his breath.
Seeing the table he can clearly see where Loki would've preferred to sit, but where he was made to sit. Thor and Freyja stand up to greet him. If they are surprised by Draco wearing Loki's clothes they don't show him. Huh. Thor did learn a thing or two during his stay on Midgard.
He bowed to Thor. His mother had taught him manners he was not going to forget them even if he hated Thor a bit right now.
"Prince Thor, I'm afraid we have not met. I'm Draco Malfoy, Lord of Wiltshire."
"Well met, Lord Malfoy. I have heard great things about you from my Mother, you are the Dragon Rider yes?" he bowed back.
Draco nodded and moved towards Freyja. He needed to apologize. He needed to play his cards right.
"I apologise for my rudeness earlier, Your Majesty. I was not in my right mind. I have missed Loki terribly-" Draco started explaining himself.
"Worry not, Draco dear. I completely understand" she patted her cheeks in her motherly way. He hoped to Seven that he could trust her.
Odin entered the room. Along with Tyr and Baldr. Two of the members in his council, but he is close as he considers them family. The servants bow their heads and the other people in attendance stand in greeting. Draco reluctantly stands and greets the King. He sits at the head of the table, Frigga on his right while Thor on his left. Baldr and Tyr sits beside Thor which left Draco with sitting beside Frigga.
Baldr and Tyr introduce themselves as the servants starts serving food to the occupants in the room. The food smell great, the table was decorated with fruits and nuts. They were particularly fond of meat and dairy products. He was about introduce himself when Odin intervened and said that Draco was Prince Loki’s Consort and briefly glanced his way. Draco appreciated the sentiment really, but Odin was just saving his skin and somehow hinting at the fact that Loki would stoop as low as to marry a mortal. Fortunately for Draco, they didn’t bat an eye at that. It seems as though they were getting tired of Odin’s old stereotypes.
After that the dinner went smoothly. No one said a word. Not even Golden Retriever Thor. When he looked at Thor he could see the sadness behind his eyes for ‘missing Loki’. Draco believes that no matter how oblivious Thor could get to his brother’s suffering he would always love his brother. It was touching really, but when Loki needed his support he was not there.
After the dinner, Baldr and Tyr took their leave and Draco could not stand the silence any longer he was going to ask Odin about Loki’s whereabouts when he was interrupted. Again. He does not like being cut off.
“We will talk in the throne room, on the morrow” Odin said to him as he turned towards Draco.
He stopped short. He didn’t know it was going to be that easy. He thought he would have to forced them, or threatened them. When he looked at Odin, he was eyeing him gingerly but with unattended displeasure. As if he was merely satisfying the need of a child who had thrown a tantrum to get their favourite toy. Draco does not trust his evil-father-by-law-supposed-to-be.
“Perhaps Prince Thor can escort me tomorrow to the Throne room. The guards makes me feel like I am prisoner here. If Prince is amenable?” Draco directed his question at Thor.
Odin narrowed his eyes at Draco. But before he could answer for Thor, like he has habit of interrupting everyone.
“Of-course, Brother Draco. You are not a prisoner here. Eirherjar are here to protect you, nevertheless, if it makes you feel better I will escort you.” Thor said with his golden smile.
Draco expressed his gratitude and left the room, with several Eirherjar.
