Until we meet again
Once Lily arrived at her destination, which seemed to have been #12 grimmauld place. She walked up the stairs and with one very shaky hand she knocked on the door. There were some hushed whispers before the door was opened,
“Lily?” Remus asked, “What are you doing here? Come in.”
Lily stepped inside and Remus closed the door and they stood in the hallway. She had opened her mouth multiple times to respond but nothing came out so she simply sobbed and placed her free hand on Harry, who was fast asleep. Eventually Remus placed together what he hoped was incredibly wrong. His eyes became griefstriken and then turned outraged. Remus promptly turned around with Lily on his heels. He screamed,
“SIRIUS ORION BLACK. GET THE FUCK DOWN HERE.” Lily was startled. Remus never cursed so when he was screaming and cursing at his boyfriend she was taken aback. Sirius came down to join them.
“Whats going on Moon-” Remus pinned Sirius against a wall and held his want away inches from his face.
“HOW DARE YOU! YOU ABSOLUTE PRICK. I-”
Sirius who was confused interjected, “Moony what have I done. I’m so confused.” Remus rolled his eyes and scoffed, “Shut up you absolute fucking liar.”
“Moony, for real. I don’t know what's going on.”
Remus grabbed Sirius’s shirt. “Don’t give me that shit.”
Sirius was so confused, he assumed that this must have been some joke. He laughed, “Moony, what shit?”
“Shut up or I’ll hex you!”
“I would love to see you try.” Just as Remus was about to shout something he would most definitely regret. Lily cried, “He wasn’t the secret keeper! Please don’t hurt Sirius.”
Remus loosened his grip on Sirius and lowered his wand. He then turned to face Lily. “He isn't?”
Lily shook her head, “No.”
Sirius who still was confused as to what was going on asked, “Lily, what's going on? Why are you here?”
Lily looked at Remus solemnly before turning to Sirius speaking in a whisper so quiet she was barely audible. “James is dead.”
Sirius took a few stumbling steps backwards, “No, Lily.”
Remus nodded his head. He was looking at his boyfriend, trying to figure how best to help him in this situation but then Lily spoke up, “It was Peter, Remus. Peter was our secret keeper.”
It was now Remus’s turn to be startled by this new information. “Peter?” He whispered, “But he- Peter wouldn’t do that.”
“But he did.” Sirius interjected not realising how harsh he sounded. The next moments were followed by silence before Lily said,
“We should bury him. James. Then we can figure out what to do from there.” The pair nodded and they apparated to James and Lilys home in Godric's hollow.
Sirius was the first, he stepped inside the house which was left open. Everything looked normal, as if the darkest wizard alive wasn’t killed there moments ago. Remus and Lily entered and then that's when tears started to flow for the group. They stood there for a while; sitting in silence mourning the loss of their sun.
Harry had awoken at this point and saw his dad infront of him, he saw the sad expression on his mother and uncle's faces. He babbled and said, “Dada!” knowing that it always made the adults in his life happy. Everyone’s heartache grew tenfold after Harry muttered those words. Not only were they losing a brother, a friend or a husband but this poor child lost his father. He lost one of the most important people in his life before his life even truly started.
Lily smiled, but it wasn’t her usual smile. It was a solemn smile, a pained one, one holding back all of the pain and heartache. Her baby boy was to grow up without his father; and her husband would never see the man that their son would become. She rubbed Harry’s back, “Yes, Harry that’s Dada.” She turned to Sirius, “Can I stay by you guys for a while? I don’t know what to do anymore.”
“Of course Lily, take as long as you need.” Sirius smiled, trying to make it seem as if it is all okay though everyone knew it wasn’t. Lily nodded a thank you and turned to Remus, “I’m going to grab some things for me and Harry.”
She turned on her heel and walked up the stairs. Remus then turned to Sirius who was sitting on the floor by James’s face, “Why did he have to die Remy?” he said in a tone that didn’t sound like that of a 22 year old. Remus rubbed little circles into his back, “I don’t know Siri, I wish I did.” Sirius leaned onto Remus and cried silently into his shoulder for a while. Remus sat there letting a few tears fall, heartbroken not only for himself but for his friend and boyfriend.
After some time Lily emerged from the stairs and asked, “Can we go? I don’t know how much longer I can stay here.” Sirius nodded and picked James up in his hands and they apparated to a graveyard.
“Are you sure you want to do this now? We can wait, you know.” Remus asked hesitantly.
“Yes.” Lily deadpanned, staring at the hole she had made up the ground. “Do it now.” Sirius carefully set him down. He then leaned down and closed James' eyes then whispered to his fallen friend, “Goodnight Prongs. See you later.”
With a flick of his wand James was gone, buried 6 feet beneath them. A stone then appeared where James’ head once was. It read,
“James Fleamont Potter, beloved friend, son, husband and father 1960-1981”
“Let’s go home.” Remus said dying to get away from this nightmare of a situation. Sirius nodded and the two started walking away.
“I’ll just be one moment.” Lily called over her shoulder. She then turned to the grave set some lilies down (magic is so useful) and said,
“Goodbye my love, sleep well. Until we meet again."
