We Won’t Fail Them Again
Prior to the attack on Earth by Shinnok’s mindless titans and Oni demons, the last of the Insurgency, Wonder Girl and Green Guardian was heading to the Avengers Tower, so they could get help from ‘Wanda Maximoff’ Raven informed them about. The last of the insurgency, Kara Zor-El had become corrupt because of another evil and they had to save Kara from it, as well as making the ones responsible for Kara’s downfall pay for what they did. However, they were interrupted when noisy alarm went on Armin’s green lantern ring. It said ‘Titan Attack - Gotham City, Metropolis, Wu Shi, Hogwarts, Special Force Base’.
“What?!”, Cassie and Armin both exclaimed as the green lantern ring informed them of titans attacking Earth cities. The ring also added ‘Colossal Titan in Metropolis, Unknown Female Titan in Gotham City’. Armin quickly recalled about Metropolis getting nuked by the Joker in the other world, which drove Superman insane by Lois Lane’s death.
“Ring! Check Lois Lane’s vitals! Now!”, Armin ordered.
“Lois Lane’s vitals are secure, sir”, the ring replied, much to the lantern’s relief.
“Wait, why are you concerned about Lois Lane when you haven’t even met her, or seen her in Hal’s memory other than her death?”, Cassie asked the lantern, who gave her a clear answer.
“We cannot have this world’s Superman go insane like yours did because of Lois dying! One insane Superman in the multiverse is more than enough!”, Cassie immediately understood. Armin didn’t have time to reply as he asked his ring for more information.
“How are the heroes handling it?!”, the ring was also quick to give him answer.
“Metropolis is handled by Superman and the Justice League. They are managing to kill the titans. Hogwarts is also secured by Justice League dark. The Avengers are on its way toward the Special Force base. Wu Shi is also managing to kill them. However, Titans who are handling it in Gotham seems to be unable to kill them”, the ring replied.
“Titans... my friends...”, Cassie gasped in fear as the flashback of her friends dying in front of her replayed itself in her mind.
“Our friends. This time, we won’t fail them. We will save them all”, Armin said, with determination.
“I want to ask you. Are you fine with my team having the the same name as those monsters who ate your friends?”, Cassie asked.
“I don’t have any problem with it. I know Titans are heroes who fight for justice, like yours who sacrificed themselves for the insurgency. I honestly liked it better if the name was Young Justice. By the way, how did you know that these monsters ate my friends?”, Armin replied.
“I told you Harry’s world was a novel. Well, yours too was a fiction in my world until Superman got mad with it having rebellious tone”, Cassie answered.
“So I too am fictional character in your world. Doesn’t surprise me that much. So, do you know who the Colossal, Armored, and the so called Female Titan are? If my world is a fiction and you are familiar with it, you might know the answer”, Armin asked Cassie once again as they hurried to Gotham City.
“You want spoilers? Fine. The Colossal is Bertholt. The Armored is Reiner, and the Female is Annie. They also killed your friend Marco”, Cassie replied, which already showed the difference between the manga in Cassie’s universe and the reality of Armin.
“Well, I shouldn’t say I’m not mad. However, in this universe, Marco is alive. Maybe The Regime bastards invading Trost district changed it. I also saved Eren’s mom with my lantern powers who might had died in your versions of our world”, Armin replied.
“I didn’t know that. By the way, what do you want to do with them? I will help you kill them because you avenged my friends by killing the regime bastards. I want to repay that debt”, Cassie suggested.
“I don’t think I’m going to kill them... The regime already showed me what pure evil actually is, and what if they are actually like your Harley who was trying to impress wrong guys? I’m nothing like the regime bastards and I never want to be. I must give them second chance if they really want it and regret their actions. And you owe me no debt. I fought against the regime all by my will”, Armin said. They were finally getting closer to Gotham City. It was time to save their friends this time, and failure wasn’t an option.
“Alright. Let’s go save our friends. Titans together”, Armin declared, much to Cassie’s surprise.
“How did you know? Just how much of our history did you see?”, Cassie simply asked.
“You have no idea”, Armin chuckled as they entered Gotham City, where they began to slice the napes of mindless titans and kill them, to save the city.
Meanwhile, Titans were not handling the situation well. No matter how much they blasted the mindless titans, they quickly regenerated. To make matters worse, their were also Oni demons with them, outnumbering them completely. Soon they were overwhelmed and got separated from each other.
“You! You will all regret coming to my home!”, Dick roared as he gave into his Talon blood. Wings emerged from Grayson’s back as Dick began to rip the Oni demons apart with Brute strength. However, Dick was too caught in rage since Bruce died and lost Tim and Barbara, who were faced with two 15 meter class titans which were about to eat them.
“You won’t get any closer, monsters!”, Starfire yelled as she blasted the two titans face. However, the two titans quickly healed and headed toward Tim and Barbara. To make matters worse, Starfire was also surrounded by flying Oni demons, which prevented her from reaching Barbara and Tim. Barbara and Tim threw Batarangs at the titans, but they barely had any effect. The teen heroes could do nothing as dread took them over. The two titans gave them a smile as their hands began to reach Barbara and Tim to eat them. However, the monsters did not get the chance. Cassie sliced the nape of the one which tried to eat Barbara, and Armin sliced the nape of the one which dared to eat Tim.
“Thank you! You saved us!”, Tim said in awe as the insurgent duo killed the seemingly unkillable creatures. They saw Ground Oni demons coming at them.
“Wonder Girl! Take these two up in the air!”, Green Guardian ordered.
“Yes, Guardian!”, Wonder Girl replied as she took Batgirl and Red Robin up in the air. Green Guardian wasted no time summoning ground spike constructs which impaled all Oni demons which dared to attack them, destroying them all.
“Titans! We know how to kill these creatures! Fire at their nape or slice the spot and destroy it! It’s the only way to kill them!”, Green Guardian yelled so that everyone could hear him.
“How do you know? Why did you know about us? Who are you?”, Tim asked.
“These monsters are from another world, my world. How I got to know about you is a very long story we don’t have enough time for, and I am Green Guardian”, the green lantern declared as he went to kill more titans and Oni demons alongside Wonder Girl.
The Teen heroes watched as the insurgent duo began to slaughter the mindless titans and Oni demons. They were impressed by the combat prowess of the duo. They also wondered why one of them were called Wonder Girl, which was the name used by Donna Troy, aka Troia.
“The blonde lantern is quite impressive. He might be as good as Kyle!”, Red Hood said as he shoot a hole the heads of Oni demons alongside Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs. Speedy supported them by firing smoke arrows to blind the Oni demons, allowing their friends to fire at the monstrosities with no problem.
“He looks like Arisia by the way”, Jessica Cruz commented, as she summoned a sword construct to slice the napes.
“That lantern may not be strong as Kyle, but he sure is deadlier”, Tim commented as he used his baton to impale an Oni with it in the mouth, alongside Stephanie Brown who did the same on another Oni. Tempest’s hydrokinetic powers came in the form of water daggers which impaled more Oni demons which came to him.
“Whatever he is, we must be grateful he saved our lives”, Barbara Gordon, Batgirl said as she threw a explosive batarangs ast the Oni demons, blowing them up, while Cassandra Cain threw a lone batarang which slit the throats of demonic invaders.
Meanwhile, Nightwing was handling the flying Oni demons all by himself. He roared as he pulled out his escrima stick and turned it into escrima lance by equipping a blade on its tips. With it, Dick began to slice the flying creatures with rage. However, he didn’t see the Oni coming from behind. The Oni tackled Dick and pinned him on a rooftop. The Oni roared as it prepared to eat Dick’s face. However, the second roar was interrupted by Green Guardian who sliced the freakish creature in half from behind with Ultrahard Steel blade, killing it. Green Guardian helped Dick get up as they faced more Oni demons flying before them. However, the flying Oni horde were decimated by massive lightnings. They saw the Shazam family before them, led by Captain Thunder, Billy Batson and Mary Marvel, Mary Bromfield.
“Good work”, Nightwing commented. However, Captain Thunder saw the new enemy behind Dick.
“Behind you!”, Captain Thunder yelled. Billy actually did not have to worry about Dick. Green Guardian already blocked the swords which were about to cut Nightwing down. Nightwing heard Billy Batson and went to assist his new friend fight against revenant Furlan and Isabel, who left trail of decapitated bodies of GCPD officers. The duo grabbed one head for each and slammed the heads, before a purple aura surrounded both revenants. Raven used her telekinetic powers and dropped the revenant soldiers from the rooftop.
“Dick! I sense a dark magic within these two! I will find a way to neutralize it!”, Raven said.
“Understood, Raven. Do your best!”, Dick said as he went to kill more Oni by slicing them with escrima lance. Raven then turned to the other one, Green Guardian.
“I should thank you for coming back... I couldn’t help you but you still helped us...”, Raven murmured.
“Raven, we just didn’t want to repeat the tragedy that happened upon the other version of your friends. Now, let’s get back to work”, the lantern said as he went up in the sky to join Wonder Girl in killing more of Shinnok’s creatures. Raven decided to work on the two revenants. Some ground Oni demons tried to interfere, but Raven unleashed a torment magic upon them, making all Oni scream in agony until the purple aura ripped them all apart. Now, with no one to disturb her, Raven could finally focus on purifying the dark magic upon the revenants. Beast Boy noticed Raven focusing on the task and transformed into a Elephant to stomp on the Oni demons which dared to interrupt his friend, along with Troia who had no trouble decapitating those who came toward her with her sword.
Cassandra Sandsmark were in mixed state of emotions as she saw many of her dead friends alive in front of her, fighting alongside her. She suffered from both joy of having them back as well as the trauma and fear of losing them all. Seeing everyone alive made Wonder Girl tear up a bit. However, Cassie was not going to lose her focus and lose everyone again. Cassie slaughtered every titan in her path that dared to touch her friends like a mad goddess, letting out a primal roar. Soon Cassie was covered in blood and steam of the mindless titans she had slain. Cyborg and Blue Beetle fired missiles and blasts which blew the napes up, killing lots of titan monsters. Superboy and Supergirl decimated the flying Oni demons with heat vision, slicing them into pieces. Miss Martian lifted the Oni up in the air and disabled their movements before twisting their limbs and neck with her telekinetic powers. Kid Flash ran through the ground demon forces, penetrating them with super speed. Queen Bee and Starfire flew between the remaining titans and fired her blast at their nape, killing them. Once they were done, Cassie could not hold it anymore, as she cried for her friends who all died in her universe.
“I’m sorry... I failed you... I promise never again...”, Cassie uttered as she began to sob. Miss Martian’s telepathic powers allowed her to feel the grief Cassie Sandsmark felt. She quickly sent a mental link to her friends to see Wonder Girl to comfort her.
“What is going on with you? What do you mean by ‘I failed you’?”, Kory said as she touched Cassie’s shoulder. Miss Martian answered her question instead, as Wonder Girl was in no state to answer on her own.
“I don’t want to describe it... It is too horrifying for all of us... The only thing I can tell is that she had been one of us, Wonder Girl, in another world, where we all died in the end and left her as the only survivor”, Miss Martian explained. Everyone was now sad for the state of Wonder Girl. They could not imagine how it was like to lose every one of them to be left as the only survivor.
“Friend... we are all here. We won’t leave you again”, Starfire said as she hugged Cassie tightly, comforting Wonder Girl. The rest of the team quickly gathered around her and comforted her by patting Cassie until she ran out of her tears. Not wanting the reunion to be ruined, Green Guardian fought against the monsters all by his own. It had been no problem for the chosen one inside the walls who had decimated hundreds of yellow lantern clones as well as Damian Wayne impostor and Wonder Whore all by himself. The Oni demons which dared to come to him were sliced into pieces by the Ultrahard Steel blades which flew in the air thanks to the telekinetic powers. Fed up with the mindless titans, Green Guardian summoned massive spikes which impaled all mindless titans in the nape, killing them all.
Now, only the Female Titan remained. Green Guardian kept dodging its swing kicks and sliced the achilles tendon of the titan, only to have it regenerate in an instant. The intelligent lantern quickly noticed someone had enhanced the healing factor of the titan, and figured he had to go for the nape instead. As a distraction, he summoned the entire Levi squad as constructs to attack the titan. However, the female titan screamed and dissolved all of it. Even Armin himself had shut his ears in pain, not expecting the scream to be this painful. Armin noticed his ears were bleeding because of the scream by the titan. The green lantern teleported to the rooftop to recover and deduce another strategy.
“I’m sorry to interrupt the moment, but I might need a hand against the last one. I need as much heavy hitters as possible”, the green lantern said as his ring healed his bleeding ears.
“You saved us with your information. Now we save you back. Assist him in dealing with the last one!”, Dick ordered. The heavy hitters led by the insurgent duo went to fight the enhanced Female Titan. The Titan unleashed another scream once again. However, the Green Guardian was not going to fall for the same trick. He instead created a massive portal which kept the sonic scream and reflected it toward the titan, pushing it away a bit. However, the female titan shrugged the attack off by jumping in the air and avoiding the reflected attack. Cyborg, Starfire, and Blue Beetle unleashed a devastating energy blast by combining their blast and unleashed it toward the female titan. However, the titan’s scream nullified the attack.
“The scream by that thing seems to be as powerful as the Canary Cry”, Cyborg sighed.
“We need to get behind it so we can properly destroy its nape”, Blue Beetle suggested. The heavy hitters all began to surround the female titan in the air. However, the swing kick prevented the heroes from reaching its weakness. Superboy and Supergirl managed to get behind with their super speed and used their heat vision to slice the nape. However, the nape suddenly turned into diamond, shielding the inside from the heat vision. The female titan quickly spun around and kicked the Kryptonian duo away with the massive strength enhanced by Shinnok when she was brainwashed. The titan wasted no time attempting to stomp on Conner to kill him. The trauma of Conner getting killed twice replayed itself in Cassie’s mind once again.
“Conner!”, Cassie screamed in horror as she saw the titan about to kill Superboy. However, Green Guardian caught the titan’s leg with a massive hand construct, allowing Superboy to escape.
“Stay away from my friends, Vermin!”, the green lantern roared as he summoned a buzz saw to cut off the leg he caught with the hand construct. However, the female titan turned its entire body into diamond, completely disabling the buzz saw attack. The leg which was not caught by the lantern had made its way toward the lantern, who barely dodged it. He summoned a wire trap to entangle the female titan inside, enhanced by Jessica Cruz, only to have it to be torn apart by the diamond titan.
“What do we do? This thing can turn itself into diamond. It’s impossible to hurt it”, Superboy sighed as he recalled almost being killed by the monster in front of him. There was no option, until one notice what could hurt the female titan.
“The Amazonian swords can cut through Diamonds. It’s our only option!”, Donna said as realization hit her.
“We also need someone to keep this monster stay still. It even escaped a trap made out of solid light”, Supergirl commented. Then a realization struck itself in Green Guardian’s mind, making him discover who they actually needed to stop this menace.
“I have a plan! Hold this thing at bay until I bring you help!”, the green lantern said as he teleported away. He knew where to go. It was the plant house of an infamous temptress, Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy frowned at the sight of Green Lantern floating before her.
“The titans need your help in containing the monster attacking Gotham”, Green Guardian explained.
“Help the titans who forced me to fight for them? They sure let me and Harley on loose after we won against the Court of Owls, but they still threatened us to fight for them”, Poison Ivy retorted.
“Then the monster can destroy the titans, then your precious garden, but if you help us contain the threat, your garden will be safe”, the green lantern said. However, Poison Ivy wasn’t going there without a reward, which was making the new green lantern as her puppet to do her bidding. Ivy unleashed her pheromones to control the lantern, but it didn’t work at all.
“I suggest you not to do that. My will can never be dominated, even by a tempting lady like you. I’m just suggesting this for the benefit of your plants, which you would do anything to protect”, the Green Guardian said sternly. Ivy had no choice but to comply, as he had mentioned her benefit as well.
“Then make it quick”, Ivy replied with a cold tone. The temporary alliance teleported to the location of the Female Titan which was still wrecking Havoc. The titans were doing their best to avoid the sonic scream from the titan, as well as the deadly swing kick. Their weapons were all negated by the diamond skin enhanced by Shinnok. Suddenly, vines began to entangle the female titan as it struggled to break free. However, Ivy’s grip on the titan was quite formidable, making it struggle against the nature force.
“This is the power of nature, fool”, Ivy said as she began to entangle the titan, completely disabling its movement. The titan tried to scream at the plant manipulator, but the Green Guardian was quick to summon a portal to defend Ivy, reflecting the sonic scream toward the Female Titan. Donna brandished her Amazonian sword, eying at Cassie, her alternate sister.
“Let’s do this, sister”, Donna said as she flew toward the diamond mouth of the Female Titan, followed by Cassie. The Amazon duo brandished their sword and sliced its cheek, disabling the scream. Noticing the Amazon’s had done their part, Green Guardian brandished his own Amazonian Sword he took from Wonder Whore and joined Cassie and sliced the diamond nape and pulled what was inside out of the nape, slaying the Female Titan.
By the time, Raven had managed to figure out how to cleanse Quan Chi’s dark magic. She quickly unleashed her own magic inside of a purple magic circle and purified the revenants, who stared at the teen hero. Raven sensed another of Quan Chi’s magic and went to the location, where the titans surrounded the inside of Female Titan.
“You might had defeated me, but this is where my gamble for Lord Shinnok begins!”, the brainwashed Annie brandished her ring with spike to transform into her titan form once again, but Raven had formed a magic circle around the titan shifter, which unleashed a torment magic to put the shifter down. Beast Boy brought the former revenant soldiers to them.
“Guys! Raven resurrected the undead!”, Garfield said. Raven looked at Green Guardian, which had the lasso of truth to her surprise.
“The lasso of truth! Use it on this girl! She is under mind control by a dark sorcerer!”, Raven ordered. Green Guardian quickly wrapped the lasso of truth around Annie, which began to glow in green light, as well as the lantern’s eyes. Annie began to scream in agony as Quan Chi’s influence began to banish from her mind.
“Even if you are my enemy, You are not Shinnok’s minion! Break Free NOW!”, Armin ordered in fierce voice. The blankness of Annie’s eyes banished as the lasso of truth held by Armin broke her out of mind control, as the mark of brotherhood of shadow banished into the air.
