Several days after Snivellus came out, James had done everything he could to prove that Snivellus wasn’t gay and is after Lily, his Lily. He used the Marauders map to seek out the slimy slytherin, specifically when said slytherin was alone because atleast then Snivellus wouldn't have to lie about being gay.
Tho it seemed that even with no one around Snivellus continued to insist that he wasn't interested in woman, especially Lily, and James couldn't understand why. Lily is absolutely beautiful and she is absolutely perfect how could someone not desire her. James had asked Sirius what he thought about the situation and Sirius insisted that Snape was possibly playing hard to get the same way Lily did with him.
James had scolded himself for not realizing that earlier. Of course Snape was trying to play hard to get with Lily. It bothered and worried him because it seemed to be working. Lily, who hadn't mentioned Snape ever since the incident in their 5th, began talking about him to her friends. It seemed she herself was in disbelief about the idea that Snape was gay.
He had heard her rant to Mary and Marlene during dinner on the day Snape came out. She couldn't believe that Snape was gay and that he had never told her. She went on stating that they were best friends and that they told eachother everything. They didn't keep secrets from eachother, so she had stated she was going over to Snape in order to confront him about it.
James had quickly stopped her and convinced her that Snape was most likely lying about being gay. That Snape probably just said that to avoid the embarrassing and pity looks people would have given him when seeing them together. Lily had stared at him with a questioning look but she had sat back down and simply nodded.
James had felt great relief when she had listened to him that day. He didn’t want her anywhere Snape, he had worked so hard to prove what awful person he was. What didn't help his situation was that after Snape came out certain rumors began circling around about it. One rumor that caught not only his attention, but Lily's as well, was that Snape was caught kissing Mulciber before a quidditch match.
Lily had gotten furious when she heard people talk about if Snape and Mulciber were dating. She had refused to believe that Snape would date someone like him. It had taken James a couple of days to convince Lily not to believe such rumors and to not go talk to Snape about it. He had asked her on a date in an effort to keep her from thinking on the rumors because if she thought about them then she would be thinking about Snape and he couldn’t have that.
James shook his head to clear his mind, he needed to focus on getting ready and not about Snape. He quickly put on his shoes and fixed up his hair, as best he could, and left his dorm room. He had reached the bottom steps of the stairs and quickly caught sight of Lily sitting in one of the chairs in the common room speaking to Mary.
He smiled at the sight of her, he still couldn't believe he had actually won her. He made his way over to her and once he close enough to hear what they were saying his smile fell.
"I just can't wrap my head around the idea that Severus might be dating Mulciber, of all people"
"I still can't believe Snape is gay, I honestly thought he was in love you, what with you two having been best friends and all"
"And that! It upsets me that he never told me...I thought we told eachother everything"
James felt his blood boil, why was Lily so focused on who Snape might be dating...she should be focusing on their date. He willed himself to relax and made his presence known to the two girls.
"Hey Lily, Mary" He said as he gave them his most charming smile.
Mary was the first to acknowledge him "Hello James" She said before leaning close to Lily and whispering in her ear "I'll see you later Lily" She turned her attention back to James "Goodbye James" With that Mary left the popular couple be.
Lily said her goodbye to Mary before acknowledging James "Hey James, are you ready for our date?" She asked with a soft smile on her face.
James felt himself relax and nodded "But of course, I've been ready for years" He chuckled to himself at his joke. Lily on the other hand simply rolled her eyes but her smile never faltered.
The couple held hands as they made their down to Hogsmeade.
James took Lily down to Madam Puddifoot's tea shop. It hadn't been James's idea, in fact he had wanted to go down to the Three broomsticks, but Lily had convinced him to her to the tea shop instead. She didn't want to deal with all the noise, she also didn't want to his friends to interrupt their date. She also wanted some cake and James couldn't deny her wants.
So far their date was going well, James was pleased that Lily never brought up Snape like she had on their last date. Not only that but he hadn't had to deal with Sirius showing up as padfoot. He and Lily left the tea shop and headed down to honeydukes.
As they walked and talked, something...well someone caught James's attention. He stopped in his tracks as he saw Snape exit Dervish and Banges along with Rosier and Avery. He felt angry and pleased, if Snape saw him and Lily together out here in hogsmeade there was no way he'd announce to the entire village that he was gay.
James couldn't help but smirk as he draped his arm over Lily's shoulders and stepped closer to the three boys, who had yet to notice them.
"Well, look it here, if it isn't snivellus" He spoke up in order to get Snape's attention.
Severus let out a groan, he knew that voice, it belonged to one James Potter. He had hoped he wouldn't have run into him but it seemed fate had other plans. He turned to face James and glared at him "What do you want Potter" He stated as he crossed his arms, he noticed Lily besides him and decided he wouldn't acknowledge her presence.
Lily tensed up when she caught sight of her ex best friend. She had been wanting to talk to him about the rumors but she never did because her friends and James assured her that they most likely weren't true. She hoped that it wasn't true that her Severus wasn't gay, he simply couldn't be.
She had nothing against those who were but she was sure that Severus held some romantic feelings for her. The idea that he might not hold such feelings for her anymore or might have never held such feelings killed her inside. She refused to believe that her Severus was gay, she had known him for years if he was she would have noticed it.
She snapped out of her thoughts as she heard Severus speak, she felt anger rise within her as she noticed that Severus hadn't bother to give her any sort of acknowledgement.
James who failed to notice, or simply choose to ignore, the way Lily's body tensed up. His full attention was completely on Snape, he pulled Lily closer to him and took in a deep breath before speaking.
"Pfft spying on us on our date, aren't you snivellus, bet you wish it was you in my place, sorry to burst your bubble but it won't happen, maybe in your dreams" James said as loudly as he could without seeming like he's trying to gain everyone's attention.
The people that were close by stopped in their tracks. With everything that has happened they were extremely invested in the situation, not only that but most who stopped were mostly interested and entertained by what Snape would say in an effort to prove that he was gay.
Severus simply raised an eyebrow. He felt himself getting a headache, he had hoped his coming out would get Potter to realize he was never interested in Lily romantically. It seems that his words seem to go into one ear and out the other. He let out a deep sigh and rubbed his temples "Potter there's a higher chance of me having a sex dream about you then about her" He spat out with such seriousness in his voice.
James and Lily stare at him in pure shock. Those around them had gasped at what Snape said. James tried to say something but nothing came out of his mouth. His mind filled with thoughts about what Snape said and his face turned red that it practically matched Lily's hair. He wasn't sure if it was due to embarrassment or something but he felt his heart begin to race. He looked around and noticed that those watching were muttering amongst themselves.
He also saw some of them trying to hide their laughter. His mind began to race and slowly anger began to build up inside him. He glared at Snape before taking Lily's hand and dragging her back to the castle while ignoring her questions of concern and her pleas to slow down.
Severus couldn’t help but smile at James's reaction. He watched as James dragged Lily away and once they were gone he heard Evan and Wes burst out laughing. He turned to them and as he rolled his eyes.
"Well that's one way to get rid of him" Evan stated. Which caused both Severus and Wes to laugh.
Wes was the first to calm down "It's a good thing Klaus wasn't here to hear you say that or he'd try to fight Potter"
Evan snickered "He's gonna hear about it sooner or later" He said with a smug smile.
Severus let out a groan "Ugh...I guess I gotta go find him before he hears about this from someone else" He said and both Evan and Wes nodded in agreement. They all walked out of Hogsmeade and headed back to hogwarts to search for one Klaus Mulciber.
