Potions

(No One's POV)

Marie went down to the Dungeons, where the potion class was. She walked in and looked around a large man at the front of the class. Slytherin students taking their seats away from the Gryffindors. The Gryffindors did the same. Marie was going to sit with James, Sirius, and Remus, but a porky rat-looking boy sat with them instead. She blushed and moved over to Severus and Lily. They have joined alone at a table

"D-Do you mind if I sit here?" She asks.

"I am good with it. What about you, Severus?" Lily asks.

He stares at Marie and nods his head.

"Okay class, for the first thing we are doing today is going to test our skills with a simple potion. This one is a simple way to cure most poisons." He explains to the class.

He stopped. "Well- most basic potions. Course you get more advanced and- well." He gave a laugh before taking out a book.

"Now if you will, page 5 of our books please."

Marie did as told and started to take notes along with the class. She was excited. After he made an example of how to do it. The class was told to gather the ingredients and start to work on the potion. Their table mates are their partners.

"I will get the ingredients. I know what they look like." Severus says and goes over to the cupboard.

"So you know Snape?" Marie asks, Lily getting out their tools for potion making.

"Yeah we met as kids, and he told me I was a witch. We hang out during the summer, and he helped me catch up with the other kids." She tells Marie.

Marie nods. "He seems a bit awkward."

"Kind of." Lily agreed.

"Oh, but he's nice." She said as she gave a smile. "He's just a little awkward with strangers..and- okay yeah, but like I said. He's nice. He's super smart with this stuff." She said

"That is good, I want to do well in potions," Marie says

Lily nods, and Severus comes back with his arms full. "Got everything." He says and sets enough down for four people to do a potion each. "If we mess up a part, we have extra."

"Thank you, Severus." Marie thanked him, and he blushed red.

"Yeah- no problem." He said as he looked away.

James, Siris, Remus, and a new male looked over at the table where the others sat.

"Fricking sniveling Severus," James says. "Why does he get to have her with him."

"Sniveling Severus?" Remus asked softly as he looked up from cutting the root. "It's not his fault. She did try to sit with us.." Remus said softly

James just glared at Severus. "Snivellus more like it," Sirius adds.

James laughed at that as he then grabbed some power and a pen, scribbling a crude drawing of Snape Sirius snickered as he folded it and threw it once Marie and Lily went to grab the Mortar and pestle.

Severus open it then his smile fell. He balled it up and pushed it to the side. Sirius and James laughed. Remus rolled his eyes. His new friends could be asses, but he knew it was because they liked His mate.

Marie walked over and looked at Severus. "Hey, are you okay?" She asks him.

He looked at her and then at Potter and Black.

"I'm fine." He said as she looked at him for a moment or two. "You sure?"

"Yeah." He says and she nods her head. They got to work on the potion.

She struggled a bit with it, not knowing what ingredient was what, but Lily and Severus helped her with that.

"I have an old encyclopedia on plants and ingredients in potions. If you want to have it you can, has a picture and what each one does." Severus says not meeting her eyes.

"Really? You'd let me have it?" She asked as she smiled. "That's so sweet. Thank you, Severus."

He smiles, and pulls it out of his sachel, and slid it to her. There were even little notes on it when he was learning to make things easier. She suddenly hugged him and his whole face went red.

This was again to the annoyance of the group of boys across the room who rolled their eyes.

She was so happy she was making friends! She was worried she would stand out from everyone else. They got the potions done. Maries was not the perfect version, with some ingredients not cut properly from nerves. But it was a passing grade.

"Ah, Miss Rivera. Is this your very first time making a potion?" Slughorn asks her.

She nods. "Y-Yes sir."

"You did well for a very first attempt. 5 points to Gryffindor."

Marie smiled and thanked him.

"And 5 points to both Slytherin and Gryffindor. For Mr. Serverus and Miss Evans, perfect potions." He says, and They smile as well.

He continued and got to James and Sirius, who were scolded for their rushed and not fully down potions. Remus got praised for his as well.

"Okay class, for homework, we will have an essay on the history of attitudes, no less than 2 rolls of parchment, and no more." He tells the class then the bell rings. "Next class, you will be recreating this potion as well without assistant it will be your first test."

Marie nodded. "I can help your practice," Severus says. "So you are ready for the test."

"Thanks."

"Me too," Lily adds. "We got to stick together, you could be really good at potion-making."

Marie smiled brightly at the praise, looking at them. She hoped she could be as good as the others

The class ended, and now it was time for a transfiguration. Marie walked with Lily to class.
