Intro

(No one's pov)

Marie waved to her parents, who were waving back, and it was maybe the few times she had seen the two actually in the same place at the same time. She waved before turning to the other kids she noticed with similar luggage as her seeing them run right at the wall. Her eyes widened, expecting to see them hit the wall, but instead, they disappeared.

Marie blinked once, then twice as she stood off to the side.

“First time huh? Just take a run.” She heard a girl run at the wall.

Marie was a muggle-born witch. Going to Diagon Alley was her first-ever experience with the magical world. Her parents were shocked when they found out, especially because she was a late bloomer. There were only signs a few weeks before her acceptance letter. She took a deep breath and ran in before stopping as she ran through the wall into platform 9 3/4.

She was ushered into the train as she tried to join some carts, but a lot was nearly full or waiting with friends. She bit her lip, feeling awkward before she finally found one with a single boy, his curly hair reaching near his shoulders, and his robes were pristine. She was so nervous to talk to him. So she swallowed courage and knocked. The male looked at her, giving a savage look in his eyes. Her face flushes.

“I-ugh c-can I sit here? Everywhere else is full.” She tells him.

He smirks at her. “Anything for a cute witch like you~”

She blushed as she walked into the cart as she sat down.

“Oh- I-uh, I’m Marie.” She said softly. She watched him pull a box out of his bag, opening it as a chocolate frog jumped out of the packaging before he grabbed it as she stared with wide eyes.

“Not a fan of frogs?”

“No- just- it moved. It jumped- like an actual frog.”

"OH!" He says. "You are a muggle-born. I have so many questions! I have never actually met a girl from the muggle world, except for in my friend's muggle magazines and posters. Have you ever ridden a motorcycle? I am going take a job this summer to buy one!"

Marie was shocked at how excited this wizard was for the muggle world.

"Sorry, heh, I am Sirius, Sirius Black. It is a pleasure." He says and winks, handing her a chocolate frog.

"Marie, Marie Rivera." She says, smiling and opening it up.

The frog jumped, and she jumped a bit, and Sirius caught it.

"Don't worry, it is just a charm." He says and hands the frog to her. "Just chocolate."

She nodded and took a bite, a bit hesitant but moaning at the sweet taste. She then looked at the card. "Dumbledore?" She asks.

"I got about seven of him." He says. "It is a collectors game, the chocolate is sweet, but the cards are the best."

She looked at it again and gasped. "He's gone!" She gasped.

"You can't expect him to stay around all day. Not like a muggle picture. The people like to move around and interact." He explains.

Her eyes were wide. "Wow."

(For everyone to know we have first years at age 17 and second years at 18 and third 19 and so on and so forth. For obvious reasons)

Her pictures didn’t move…how amazing that was…

“That’s amazing…I just learned magic was a thing, to be honest.” She said as she looked at the empty card. “How fascinating..”

"Hey, how about I help you out with the magic stuff and you teach me of the muggle stuff!" He says and she looks at him.

Was the muggle world really that interesting to him?

They talked for some time. Sirius forgot he had to tell James where they would be he was so excited.

“So wait wait, you have absolutely zero magic in the muggle world?” “Well, I’m sure now there is, but yeah, a lot of the magic in the, you said muggle world?” “Ah- yeah, nonmagic folk.” “Ah- yeah, in the muggle world most of it is like cheap illusions.” She said smiling

"Oh! I really want to see that!" He says so excited. "Then how do motorcycles work, they must run on something."

She explained to the best of her knowledge of the industrial revolution. "So you have picture boxes?"

"Yeah, television." She says.

"Oh, That sounds so cool!" He continues to gush really wanting to know everything. Finally, the train stopped and they walk up to a half-giant named Hagrid.

(Hagrid worked there since he was expelled because of Tom. For those who do not know :D)

“First years gather here. First years. Thank you.” The man said, his voice was deep and loud, yet held a sort of gentleness one may not expect.

“Hello, welcome to your first year at Hogwarts, and I’m Rubeus Hagrid, though you can just call me Hagrid. I’m the groundskeeper here at Hogwarts, so off we go. Don’t want to be late to the feast and the sorting, now do we?”

Marie smiled, and she and Sirius walked to the boats. She got in, and a boy with glasses came over. "Sirius!" He calls. "Where were you? We were supposed to meet up!"

Sirius didn’t show it, but he was a bit embarrassed to have forgotten he’d met James a few years ago briefly but met him again while getting his wand, and the two connected fast, both of them having a rather large mischievous strike.

“Oh, sorry about that, James, but can you blame me for getting distracted?” He asked, motioning to Marie, who was fixing her robe as she stopped and looked up. “Hm?”

"Okay, I give you a pass," James says and walks up to Marie. "Hello, I am James, James Potter."

Sirius rolled his eyes but knew Marie would be his. They get in the boat, and another boy joins them. He looked nervous, holding a thick book in his hands.

“Sorry, you uh don’t mind if I join you, right?” He asked as Marie has a smile.

“No, not at all, I’m Sirius, This is James and this is Marie.”

“Hi.” She said smiling

He looks at her sniffing the air and blushing. It was weird, but the boys did not notice it. Marie thought it must be something she was unaware of, so she did not bring it up.

The boats started to sail across the water. Marie looks at the deep black water. Her hand grabbed the one next to her a bit worried. Remus looked up from his book as his face flushed, and he was pretty shy, and having some girl randomly grab his hand.. was new to him. Also, she smelled so sweet and warm. It made the wolf in him howl in need.

“S-Sorry.” She says. “Deep w-water…”

He nods his head holding her hand back “It is okay.” He tells her

The other two boys shared a look but decided it must be innocent, turning their attention instead to the upcoming castle where the school was.

“Wow,” Marie says, staring in awe at the castle.

It is like a fairytale but so much more.

She’d never seen a castle so beautiful..and it already looked so magical..and she hasn’t even seen the inside yet! They walk up to the coward, and she smiles at that it was so enchanting. Marie entered, holding her cat in one hand while her other hand played with her robe nervously. Everyone here seemed so..she didn’t even know how to describe it

Then a woman came out. "Hello, I am Professor Mcgonigal, Head of Gryffindor, in just a few moments, you will be sorted into your houses. There is Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points. Your failures will cost them. I will let them know you are here."

She left, and Marie held her cat, who looked around like she was.

“Houses? How, How do they sort us?” Marie asked as another student was about to speak before the doors opened.

“Come on in now.” The professor said and leads the students in

The adult wizard and witches were allowed down, and Marie looked at the ceiling it looked like the night sky! It was stunning! Floating candles and moonlight!

They stopped at where there was a stool and a hat on it. "Now when I call your name, you will come up, sit, the sorting hate will be placed on your head, and he will sort you into your houses on what house best fits you. Now remember, the house you are chosen for is the best fit. You may not be brave yourself or smart or cunning, but those things you value. Which is where you will be best to be fitted. Sirius Black."

Sirius stopped as he felt everyone’s eyes on him. He had an idea where he was going. The blacks have historically always been in Slytherin, which, the house in itself was not bad. But he’d hate to be like his family.

He hesitated as McGonagall looked around. “Sirius Black. Please step forward.” She repeated as Marie reached through the people in front of her to brush Sirius’s shoulder with her fingers, and she gave a smile.

“Go ahead. I wanna see what it’s like.” She said, smiling.

He blushed but nodded. He walked forward and sat down. The hat was placed on his head. "Ah! Another Black! But you are different from the others! Brave, and stand up for what you believe in when your family hates it! Loyal to friends and somewhat family. Willing to speak your mind, better be... GRYFFINDOR!"

Sirius lit up, and somehow he made it not to be in Slytherin. He took off the hate and rushes to the Gryffindor table.

The other Gryfindores didn’t seem to care at all about his family name, immediately welcoming the young man into their table and cheering as some other names got called out as Marie felt someone bump into her.

“Sorry.”

“Oh- no, it’s okay.” She said, smiling at the boy, and he had black straight hair and seemed to be more on his own.

“James Potter!” James gave a confident smile and turned back to Marie. “Hey, bet you a galleon I’m in Gryffindor.” Marie blinked. “I don’t know if I have that- but okay.” She said, laughing a bit as he raced up and sat down.

“Oh, well now, James Potter, only son to Fleamont and Euphemia Potter. You don’t often hear no, do you?” The hat asked rhetorically as some kids laughed, Marie included.

“Confident, or perhaps it’s cockiness. Prideful. Loyal...I see great potential for you..yes, better be…Gryffindor!”

James stood up and let out a whoo as the table clapped loudly as he passed by Marie, flashings a smile as she felt her face heat up for a split second as another girl was called up, being placed into Hufflepuff.

Marie was curious about where she would land.

“Remus Lupin.” Remus looked around nervously as Marie smiled at her, well, she’d say her new friend.

“Hmmm, well now, you are interesting..there’s something about you, something you may try to hide from others..you aren’t always very courageous, are you? But if it came down to it..” the hat trailed off before speaking.

“Gryffindor!” The table cheered as James and Sirius motioned for them to join.

Once more, the boy from before was bumped into Marie by another child trying to get to the sorting hat.

“Sorry.”

“Don’t be I’m Marie by the way.” She said softly, as she gave a smile as the boy looked at her.

“Snape...Severus Snape.” Her smile widened.

“Nice to meet you, Snape.” She said as the boy got sorted into Ravenclaw.“

Marie Rivera.” Well, it was Marie’s turn to freeze. She didn’t know if the houses meant anything, but she didn’t want to be separated from the only people she knew so far.

She got up and sat on the stool as the hat was placed on her head.

“Oh, you’re a fun one. New to magic are we? Well you may struggle a bit, but you’ve got a good head on these shoulders… you can be rather cunning, and you hold ambition as a value…Slytherin may be a good fit...Ah, but you display loyalty and courage, although maybe something you lack is a value you hold dearly..and you are stubborn, reckless even, and unable to admit it.” The hat said as her face heated up as some laughed.

“Well, given all this, better be…Gryffindor!” The hat exclaimed as she let out a happy house as she stood up and Sirius, James, and Remus clapped loudly and exclaimed excitedly at the news. That she’d be joining them

Severus was a bit sad he is not joining her. He was going to be in Slytherin, he had his heart set on it. He was sorted into Slytherin and the feast began. Marie looked at all the food in awe. She started to dig in. Talking to her three new friends happily.
