Spying
Pov. James
James had a big smile on his face as he walked back to his doom. He was so happy right now because it was so great to finally be with regulus after months of trying to get him to even talk to James. But also the situation was horrible and it stressed him so much. And somehow regulus was keeping up with it so well and James didn’t know how because he could never do that. And he didn’t know how to help regulus either.
And he had to tell Sirius. And Sirius would not be happy at all. James had thought about telling Remus first or Peter or anyone really. But he had to tell Sirius soon. And James didn’t know how he should tell anyone else because then they would have to keep it for Sirius too and he really didn’t want to put that pressure on them.
He always told regulus that it would be okay but he didn’t even know how. He just wanted to comfort regulus. But he was so scared. And he didn’t want to talk to regulus about it because he didn’t want him to feel like it was his fault.
He wanted to talk to Sirius so badly but he also really didn’t want to do exactly that.
James lost himself in his own thoughts so much he didn’t even noticed how fast he got back to the griffindor tower. He mumbled the password and just went inside as quickly as he could.
He slowly walked up the stairs to his room. He had to be careful to not wake anyone up. It wasn’t easy because the stairs were so old you had to be careful to not make a sound with every step you took.
James entered the room and was already half in bed as he heard a voice.
“James.”
James slowly turned around to Sirius. If Sirius had noticed how long he hadn’t been in his bed then he had a big problem. But he didn’t want to act suspicious because maybe Sirius just woke up.
“Oh Sirius why are you still up? Is everything alright?”
“Oh yeah sure, everything is perfect. Why are you still up, James? Did regulus keep you up?”
James heart dropped. Sirius knew, but how?
“What do you mean with that? What should regulus have to do with that?” James mumbled.
“James I know that you are meeting my brother.” Sirius sat up in bed. It was dark and James couldn’t exactly see him but it sounded like he got up.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Stop denying it.” Sirius stood in front of his bed now. He looked down at James.
James was genuinely concerned that Sirius might punch him in the face.
“Even if where would you know?”
Sirius didn’t answer to that. He just stood there and did nothing.
“Sirius are you spying on me?” It made sense, if Sirius had been there tonight he would have seen them together. And regulus had heard someone. It must have been him.
James felt betrayed. He hadn’t thought that Sirius would do something like that.
“I wasn’t spying on you. I just… accidentally came across the astronomy tower.”
“Oh sure at 2am.” James said a bit too loud. He felt so angry all of a sudden. He just wanted to scream at Sirius because he hadn’t trusted him.
“That’s beside the point, James. Are you dating him or what?” Sirius raised his voice as well. They would wake Remus and Pete if they didn’t shut up.
“Can you be quiet? Why are we discussing this right now. Can you maybe save your screams for tomorrow,” James hissed.
Sirius turned around and walked back to his bed. James laid down too. They both wouldn’t get any sleep that night.
